Nice video. Sad to see what has become of those F-Units. Glad to see the SP&P is running on the line, though. Also was happy to see 89 made it outta there. I was actually able to film it in transit on the UP.

I live near the line and I think that there is untapped potential. We had a Flexliner in the 1990's come here once to test and if we had the budget to repair the tracks from Davenport to Santa Cruz, this wouldn't be an issue. However, Progressive is more focused on Watsonville because they have all the customers they want right at the doorstop of Union Pacific. Lest we forget, there is still a tunnel in the Santa Cruz Mountains that used to be part of a train called the Suntan Special. The main issue is money. Santa Cruz County diverts their taxpayer money to other places than the preservation of this piece of history. In my opinion, a good way to solve this problem is to create a company that isn't a subsidiary from the Midwest or anywhere else. A company that is local, has the county for funding, and knows the terrain. It could be called the "Santa Cruz and Pacific" or the "Davenport and Watsonville Railroad" but you get the point. Passenger service and more freight traffic is viable if the money, time, effort, and patience was put into the line. I'm glad though that we're not in a situation like the McCloud Railroad in 2009. That's when they converted all their tracks to a pathway. A tragic thing for sure. I also think that this line could be a tourist/freight line. Similar to the McCloud and Mount Hood, they ran excursions and freight trains. The only thing that killed the railroad was the Great Recession. Just a random thought...

This is one of the only branches IN AMERICA with such old crossing signals and equipment on these tracks. This is one of my favorite railroads

The situation for rail in Santa Cruz County is getting dire. Two different groups, Trail Now and Greenway, are lobbying to have the Santa Cruz Branch ripped out in favor of a bike trail. Both are controlled by the same man, an insane control freak named Brian Peoples. Apparently, Greenway has somehow managed to get two of its members into the RTC, and almost managed to file for adverse abandonment of the Roaring Camp line from Felton to Santa Cruz to build an extension of the trail. All of this came behind closed doors. This is corruption of the highest degree. Someone NEEDS to get this information to the Roaring Camp higher-ups, otherwise the Beach Train is dead and we’ll be left with a trail infested with homeless camps.

I really hope the line is repaired. Unfortunately there isn't much reason to do so, but one can hope. By the way, that graffiti on the F units was awful. I hate graffiti with all my soul. I really do.
