My friend has been to nearly every big event NIN has done from Woodstock to 5 of the Wave Goodbye shows and a lot more, and he tells a story how they soundchecked it once and never again until this performance. Its been one of my favorites since it came out.
It's like when they played The Perfect Drug live for first time ever at Red Rocks. You could feel the audible collective gasp. Sunspots is even better IMHO
May well be my favorite NIN song. The last forty five seconds is so intense it's almost cathartic. And then to come back to the bassline at the end---freaking perfection.
Yeah he has his own band called The New Regime where he is the lead singer. Illan is NIN's live secret weapon, according to the band he can play everyones instruments better than they can.
On the way to the show I said to my friends that I was hoping to hear Sunspots! Thank you Trent. Superb video BTW. I'm standing quite close to you and only recorded about 30 seconds, so thank you for sharing this. Bloody epic!!
Glad someone heard them. I was absolutely stunned when he came in with the higher vocal part on the last chorus. As much as I loved Josh Freese on drums in NIN, Ilan Rubin is so multi-talented that it's a different level. What an incredible group of musicians
I wish I'd been there to see this! Sunspots is one of my favorite NIN songs, and to see everyone singing along, and then clapping along to the bridge is so epic!
Happy 1 Year Anniversary to the greatest night of my fucking life. Holy grail of seeing NIN live finally and at Brixton which I'd never been to and may not be around anymore sadly. During a tube strike too. This meant everything to me and I'm so grateful i was able to get tickets and go.
Recently I went to a RHCP show and a woman close to me was totally out of the vibe. She was just visibly uncomfortable standing while her couple was jumping like crazy,It was funny. Sorry you had a bad experience, anyway I encourage you trying to listen to this music avoiding the perspective of the genre and just trying to enjoy all the weird things in the production; NIN has a double instrumental album named "Ghost I-IV", it's interesting.
