Dallas and Buffalo meet in the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year, as Troy Aikman's Cowboys look to repeat as champions, and Jim Kelly's Bills look to avoid their fourth straight loss in the big game.
My Dad and I use to watch the Super Bowl drinking cokes sharing the moment together. I sure miss him so much. See you soon as I am now 66 years old with cancer. I watch the Super Bowls today as a tribute to him.
I refuse to live in the present so I'm binge watching 1990's Cowboy's Super Bowl victories. It's the only thing us Cowboys' fans can do to dull the pain.
i’m not a Cowboys fan, but these older super bowls still count….like you guys don’t need a superbowl win as much as some other teams, because you had this dynasty back then…..and this Cowboys team is top 5 all time for sure.
R.i.p to your father and I appreciate you sharing that memory. Next game against the 49ers for your father do a cookout and enjoy brother..good luck to your cowboys from a chargers fan
@@jeremykrause153It was a brutal O line,,,they were not a high powered offense, they were a balanced smash mouth team, the present Niners try to be like this but they choke as usual 😂 GO COWBOYS THIS IS OUR YEAR!! 😤 I say this every year and I MEAN IT 😤😤😤
@@marcobetanzos2467 Yeah I'm old enough to remember, plus they have a ton of games on RU-vid to reminisce. I'm so old I remember watching us beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl back in '77. So I watched us win 4 of the 5 rings we have. I actually do feel bad that there are many teams that have still never won even one ring. I think about that when I start feeling bummed about not having won another one in so long. But yeah, we sure had one heck of an Offensive line back in the 90s, great to see these videos that people put together. It's like our personal time machine. Anyhow, stay safe brother !
People make fun of Leon Lett's mistakes but he was a really good player and basically turned this game around with his forced fumble at the start of the second half.
The third quarter drive with Emmitt running the ball was game over!! Emmitt proved why he was the league MVP and to think Jerry Jones almost let him walk.
As a Washington fan I have to tip my hat to to the Cowboys. They truly ruled the NFL in the 90's. Would love to see our teams renew their rivalry as it used to be one of the best.
that was a great rivalry that I watched when billy Kilmer and Joe Washington faced us to theismann and that bad ass John riggins. Washington vs the cowboys was a great rivalry. miss those days. go cowboys
Well said....I am from the Sonny J part of hating ...what games I saw with my Father...Big D here...But when men went at men went ....went was the best football...I was at Tulane Stadium when Dempsey kicked the 63 against Detroit...Can send you a polaroid...
@@Supermanfan99 : True, but he still went 15 out of 23 which is not bad! All 3 Super Bowl games Troy Aikman officially missed ONLY 8 passes going 22 of 30 in the 1st, 15 of 23 in 2nd, and 19 of 27 in the 3rd. No wonder why he's in Canton! Accuracy and Quality!
It is a shame that Jimmy Johnson was fired after winning back to back Super Bowls. If it was not for Jerry Jones ego the Cowboys would have won more Super Bowls.
Its been years since Ive seen these games. Ive been a Cowboy fan all my life and I was obviously over the moon in the early 90s about the Cowboys but I forgot about Thurman Thomas at the end of this game. I felt so bad for him, he was a truly great RB. The Bills in the early nineties were a great team that just got some bad breaks in the big game. The comeback against the Oilers in the 92 AFC championship has got to be one of the most exciting games Ive seen to this day.
When Thomas fumbled at 1:15:38 at the start of the third almost everyone knew the Bills were gonna lose at that point. Especially when Kelly got sacked for the first time at 1:20:26 You could feel everything unraveling for the Bills at that point But how did the Bills themselves feel they weren’t going to win again ?
@@RB01.10 The Bills completely lost composure after the Fumble, but even that series before halftime was poorly played, like Andre Reed not going out of bounds and playing conservatively on third down. As a Bills fan, this feels like an issue that has consistently plagued the Bills even to this day. They were the consensus best team league wide in 1990, but ever since they failed, the entire organization just has this lucky to be here mentality. There's no swagger and a fear of something going wrong is constantly present. Coach Mcdermott's bills are similarly frustrating to watch right now, as one wrong break always seems to take the wind out of the entire team.
I'm a Dallas fan but I felt so sorry for the Bills and their continuous SB losses. To this day I'm still hoping for a Bills SB victory... as long as it's not against Dallas.
The Bills should have won Super Bowl 25 against the Giants. They were better than the Giants and the game should not have come down to Scott Norwood missing that field goal.
@@halfpintranch2700It’s crazy how that one mistake gave Dallas the momentum back. But I think even Thomas himself said afterwards his fumble was the beginning of the end
Leon Lett, forcing the fumble, on Thurman Thomas was the turning point in Super Bowl 28. Lett's teammate James Washington recovered the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. The Cowboys shut out the Bills in the second half of this game 24-0 and cruised to a 30-13 victory.
I’m a life long 49ers fan who was eliminated in the playoffs. The Cowboys have always been a rivalry. Hats off to E. Smith who played a stellar game in this Super Bowl.
I am a die hard Cowboy fan, but you have to give it to the Bills of the '90's. They've done something that NO other team has been able to do -- That's get to the Superbowl FOUR consecutive times! So hat's off to the Bill of the '90's. But "how about those Cowboys." Just simply a complete team!
I'm going to make the argument that losing 4 straight superbowls is good for no one. Not the team. Not the Bills' fans. Not the rest of us who had to endure that annual crap show....
The Cowboys could have gone to 4 straight too, but they made too many mistakes against the niners in the 94 NFCCG. Troy of course went straight to blaming the coaching, but Switzer didn’t throw those interceptions. And I agree about the Bills, I really do feel bad for the’, they deserved at least one title for all the misery they had gone through. 1990 was their best chance I’d say. If only Norwood had made that kick.
As a cowboys fan looking back. I do feel bad for those Bills. You can honestly say thats 1 of the greatest teams ever 4 years straight. Just literally couldn't get past NFC East teams then. But they sure desrved 1
@@roaddog7370 You're both right, But American [NFL] Canadian [CFL] Football are more entertaining [IMO] than Soccer...I can watch soccer if there is nothing else as I'm not a fan of basketball, baseball, or hockey. Rugby is another game I like.
Emmitt Smith broke more tackles than Barry Sanders, was much more effective in goal line situations, was a better blocker, was very effective out of the back field catching balls for crucial yards, carried the rock, and took a lot of hits, tallied the most yards in history to become the NFL's all time leading rusher. Add to that he was a 3 time Super Bowl Champion, and MVP. Sanders "pretty style of running although impressive, and fun to watch just does not stack up to Emmitt the GOAT.
Dallas going for it on 4 and 1 on the goalline @1:55 and pitching out to Emmitt for the T.D. while Bills loaded up in the middle not only showed Dallas beat the Bills physically as the game went on but mentally and strategically as well.
watching this again for the 3rd or 4th time. Always amazed how the Bills dominated the Cowboys in the 1st half. Cowboys had zero pass rush as Haley's back was toast (just watch him in SB XXVII where he was unstoppable), Novacek had 1 or 2 catches only, and Bruce Smith was being Bruce Smith (unlike XXVII when he was virtually unnoticed). Then, Emmitt (and Norv Turner and James Washington) took over in the 2nd half. Ballgame.
When SF traded Charles Haley to Dallas, at Haley's request, just before the start of the 1,992/93 season, Al Davis called Jerry Jones and congratulated him on winning the Superbowl. They upset SF, the betting favorite, in the NFC championship game at Candlestink Park, to get there.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah… Because Jimmie Johnson would have somehow Kept his team together in spite of free agency on the horizon… By the way how did Jimmie Johnson do in his career in Miami when he had all of the football control and no Jerry Jones to stop him? Oh and he has Dan Marino as the quarterback as well… How did he do there? Seriously get the fuck off of Jimmie Johnson’s jockstrap already. Even Jimmie Johnson doesn’t think that he deserves as much credit as you fuckers give him.
Jim Jeff coat is my all time favorite player number 77 was born 1970 go Dallas I'll die a Dallas fan even after death I'll always be a Dallas cowboys fan
On the Four Falls of Buffalo it was interesting how Troy Aikman said at halftime how shocked he was to see the Bills all look so solemn despite playing such a good first half. It's like they knew what would happen next
Well, since since some of the Bills were bought off for the two Super Bowls against Dallas,of course they did. Pro sports leagues are sports entertainment. National Fixed League,National Hoax League,National Bribery Association and Money League Ball. Nobody really loses because everyone still gets paid. Just watch it for what it is,sports entertainment!
Super Bowl 28 would be Jimmy Johnson's last game as the Dallas Cowboys head coach. Buffalo Bills head coach Marv Levy, summed up the Bills fourth straight defeat, in the Super Bowl the best. "A tremendous disappointment." 30-13 Cowboys. The Cowboys defeated the Bills for the second straight year in the Super Bowl.
Damn I am from Baltimore and am a die hard Raven fan now. I even went and saw my team win Superbowl 35 with my mom( my sister was a Ravens cheerleader at the time!) But I was born in 84 we had no team in the early 90s and I remember these games watching them with my dad. He was a redskin fan 🙄 He is in his 70s now I cherish these memories and it's the first time I'm watching these games that are still fresh my mind in many years! I'm blessed to be 38 and still have both my mom and dad I love you both 😊
That Dallas O Line was indeed great but after Emmitt cleared the initial blocks look at how many tackles he broke and how many extra yards he generated. Man just gets no respect for just how good he was at picking up extra yardage. I had forgotten how well Jim Jeffcoat and Nate Newton played in this game and I'm so glad for them that they did. Having to live through that awful period of losing seasons at the end of the Landry Era and the beginning of Jimmy's tenure had to be emotionally draining and I'm glad to see they got a chance to shine on a Super Bowl team. It is absolutely criminal that Jeffcoat never made the Pro Bowl!
If you watch the 1994 Orange Bowl between Nebraska and Florida State, you see and hear a lot of Simpson’s sideline commentary. You’re right, it feels surreal.
Think despite the Bills losing all 4 of their Super Bowls, they still had some great teams, and an excellent and consistent QB in Jim Kelly. Still waiting for Josh Allen to take the Bills back to the SB. After Kelly retired, the Bills seemed to basically suck for quite a while. Maybe with a few more twerks here and there. (Online, running game and better blocking.) They can get there.
Back in those days, it was like a bruising war. They were all just happy to make it through a game and if they got hurt, you saw them in the next drive no matter what.
He says in the game where they talk for 15 minutes about how Thurman Thomas isn’t back in the game yet and debate whether or not it’s because of cramps or because he’s being punished for fumbling the football… Yeah spot on commentary there bro.
Thurman Thomas’s fumble completely changed the momentum of this game. Buffalo was completely outplaying Dallas, before that. It was like “Here we go again” for Buffalo
@@quentincampbell612 What I meant was while the fumble may have given Dallas a lifeline, the entire team as a whole didn’t show up in the second half and got shellacked as a result
Leon Lett made the greatest momentum turning play in the history of the Super Bowl when he forced the fumble of Thurman Thomas picked up by James Washington and ran back for a touchdown.
It also changed the future for the Cowboys organization...and not for the better. Follow me on this. Thurman doesn't fumble leading to a momentum changing TD,he continues getting opportunities with ball(he had over 80 total yards rushing and receiving up to that 2nd fumble), Bills wear down the Cowboys defense and score more points and win this Super Bowl. Jerry and Jimmy's egos are brought down, they vow never to let that happen again. Jimmy stays as coach. Continue drafting good young players and the Cowboys win 3 more Super Bowls.
@@quentincampbell612 No, not quite. Jerry Jones is a loser and he despises winners, which is why he forced Jimmy out. The Cowboys were going to win that Super Bowl, and that Leon Lett play set things in motion.
The Cowboys just took the soul out of the Bills in the 2nd half, when you get ran on like what Emmitt Smith did and that offensive line, they took your manhood out of the game -- I still get goosebumps watching how Emmitt was taking off his helping to emphasize the will and force that he and that team were NOT going to be denied their destiny to win that title.
I believe Thomas himself said his fumble gave the Cowboys momentum. If he doesn’t fumble, and they keep running the ball maybe the Bills have a chance at winning then.
Greatest running back of all time. No, not Thurman Thomas... Emmitt carried the Cowboys to a SB championship. He dominated the Bills defense after another rushing title. Barry was slicker, Jim Brown was dominant when LineBackers were 210 lbs. Emmitt lifted this whole team on his shoulders. What a devastating weapon he was.
This was only Emmitt's fourth season. After this game he would go on to play an _additional_ 11 seasons, gaining an _additional_ 12,646 rushing yards to bring his final regular season total to 18,355. In the next two years alone he would score 46 rushing touchdowns, eventually scoring 175 touchdowns in all. He really was the complete back. He wasn't the fastest, he wasn't the strongest, he wasn't the best blocker... but overall he was arguably the most complete. Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice are the only two non-kickers in NFL history to score 1,000 points in a career.
@@philipwebb960 Sanders was a GREAT back and LOTS of fun to watch. It's a shame he had to play for a team like the Lions his entire career. You won't get much of an argument from me regarding Barry being "better" than Emmitt.
I think the Packers and 49ers were happy Jerry Jones let go of Jimmy Johnson. Because that meant the Cowboys would self destruct except for the 95 season. What a waste of a great team.
I love watching older games. Back then there wasn't all of these questionable referee calls and penalties every other play. Best part of the game is the Dallas' first offensive drive of the 2nd half. That offensive line was the nastiest and best line to ever play this game. You take that Cowboy line and put it up against any defensive line of today and you couldn't stop that offense.
I was a kid and I fell in love with football back then. Sometimes it is good to revisit the past to remind you of where you have been so you can see where you are going.
Being a diehard Cowboys fan, of course I was ecstatic when Thurmon Thomas fumbled twice and we scored both times. Looking at the game now, I really feel for the man. You can see how devastated he was over fumbling again when he'd done the same the previous year. He was one of the best during his peak years. Too bad he and the Bills never eventually won one.
If you hold the ball high and tight in the 3-point contact grip as you are coached to do, instead of out away from your body as many running backs do because they think it looks cool, YOU DON'T FUMBLE THE BALL. Even I know that.
This stuff should be held against players in the hall of fame. You look at players that didn't have long careers but won the game and played well. Jim Kelly Andre Reed and Thurman Thomas all need asterisk in the hall of fame played like crap in these games
It’s amazing how many of the comments are “cowboys, cowboys”. I think we are forgetting what an amazing feat it was for the Bills to go to the Super Bowl four times in a row as AFC champs. Yes, unfortunately they lost. Still, being conference champs 4x in a row is something to definitely applaud!
Did anyone catch the players introduction of Bills announcing 12 players on offense? 5 offensive linemen, TE Peter Metzelaars, 3 WRS Beebe, Brooks, Reed, FB Gardner, RB Thomas, QB Kelly.
Jones has been trying to recreate this magical, very dominating team since he bought the team. He got it with Jimmy Johnson. What Jones has never realized is it's wonderful to have great players, but without a truly great coach it's not going to happen. The only reason it happened under Switzer was because the spirit of Johnson still continued thanks to key players like Aikman who basically took over the team. Switzer was terrible. Jones keeps hiring terrible coaches or when he gets ones rarely, Jones makes himself their egotistical overlord. Jones will never learn to shut up.
Bills blew a golden opportunity just before the half when Kelly overthrew Don Beebe at 56:12. Beebe had his man beat for an easy touchdown. It would have made the score 20-6 at halftime and honestly I think that might have been the backbreaker considering how flat Dallas looked up to that point.
I love that 8 or 9 straight runs from Emmitt for a touchdown!! Thank you for the video brings back my old memories... Emmitt James Smith III is still the Greatest of All Time!!!
@@PaulRobert474 I guess Dorsett never had that line... Emmitt DID and that's only part of the reason why Emmitt is #1 All time!!! Remember that the highest draft pick on that line was a 3rd round selection...
@@quirinogarza7381 Emmitt is a great back. No doubt. He very well may be better then Tony D. I'm just saying Tony had gear few backs ever had. @@quirinogarza7381 TRUE enough, my friend! One thing is for sure. WE are a long way off from ANY of the players we just mentioned. I have lost ALL confidence in the Jones family. We are the exact opposite of what we were in 77 or 92.
1:21:34 The drive which Emmitt Smith showed why he was the best RB in all of football. He single handly took over that drive and grabbed the game by the throat and squeeze and TKO'ed the Bills. And also it showed how great that o-line was. They were big, athletic, and fiesty. After this drive you knew that the game was over.
8.7 ypc on that drive. Absolute dominance. I’ll always remember seeing Marv Levy’s reaction afterward. Total despair and frustration when you know what’s coming and still can’t stop it.
I use to love them through most of the 90s. Two years later came their 3rd Super Bowl title. In 1996, Green Bay prevented the Cowboys from getting a 4th championship.
Kenneth Davis, who was quicker than Thurman Thomas, played better against the Cowboys in both Super Bowls than Thurman. That being said,up to that 2nd fumble,Thomas had over 80 total yards, rushing and receiving. The biggest thing that fumble returned for a TD did was take Thomas out of the game mentally.
1:15:38...in the words of the great NFL Films narrator Jeff Kaye, "the unquestioned key play of Super Bowl XXVIII" I still get chills thinking of that music they used to accompany Leon Lett's game changing play.
@Aldo del Círculo Infernal in a weird way it has kind of ruined the game, not because they're arent' big hits, or because theres to many pentalties, its because its made it to easy to be a quarterback. Tom Brady can play until he's 50 basically just as a glorified dart player who makes good risk management decisions on paper, he's just sitting in the pocket. he might as well be at a desk making good risk analysis for finacia clients, because their is no risk on the athletic side. No one can touch him to hard.
Man, Bills fan here... They all the momentum looked like they where going to finally win and that fumble by Thomas just sucked all the life out of them
Gary Schneider most people don’t get just how difficult reaching the game titled Super Bowl is... Kelly and the Bills went 4 consecutive years... That is a major achievement in itself... I’m a life long Cowboys fan... But I utterly respect what Levy, Kelly, Thomas and crew accomplished in that 4 years...
In the 1992 season, the Bills beat the 49er's in the first ever no punt game. There was a similar game in the USFL between Kelly and Steve Young's team.
