Every time the Seahawks had any momentum in this game, the refs called something. Even with all of that they were still in the game in the fourth quarter. Bill Leavy apologized for the egregious calls in this game, acknowledging that something was amiss. I don't know if it was planned or just bias playing a role at the time.
how many field goals did the kicker miss. i do believe it was 3 the game ended at 21-10. if he made the kicks it might of been 21-19 at the time of the final drive. If you need the refs calls to go your way to win the game your not a champion.
@@washworks7630lol STFU big baby bitch if it was your team you'd be the first to cry. I don't give a shit about either of these teams but you're full of shit. This stuff definitely matters
IMHO the worst call was holding on Locklear when the Hawks had the ball on the 1 yard line following the completion, it really wasn't a hold and the guy Locklear was blocking was offsides by a mile but it wasn't called. The subsequent plays were horrifying in that it put Seattle in a long down and distance, including a penalty on Hass that set up the flea flicker. NONE of that happens and the Hawks are up 17-14 with a very bad Steeler offense. The game is entirely different at that point.
First off, you're out of your mind - Hagans left at the snap. But even so, if you want to nit-pick about non-calls, then go back and look at the Seahawks formation on that play, the right wideout is clearly more than a yard off the ball which means Locklear was uncovered and it's an illegal formation anyway. And that BS about the penalty on Hasselback somehow "setting up" the reverse pass play (not a flea flicker) is ridiculous. The Steelers were on their second set of downs that drive. Face it, your safeties both got suckered on that play and were burnt, Trufant was the only one to pick up on it, but he had to come from the other side of the field and couldn't of stopped Hines even if the play had to go 58 yards instead of 43
I think you are out of your mind. The right WR was fine..add the TE on the other side being on the line and you have 7 on the line..it's what you need. Face it, Steelers got away with this game.
As a Seahawks fan while I admit I wasn’t a fan at the time so I haven’t seen the game fully. But watching these highlights a lot are more so ticky tacky calls than just bad calls where I could easily see it going both ways. Though the last two calls on us Seahawks was in fact terrible with 76 clearly getting beat and the block below the waist just coming out of no where with that call
Bad calls happen it’s part of the game, look at the saints and rams on that pass interference no call, or Brady’s no ruck rule, or the roughing the passer calls in the past 2 years it’s a part of the game
@@cartersmith6900 rules are you made up, arent they? They didnt just pop out of sky. Brady said he thought it was a fumble, because he didnt know of the rule. That rule has been enforced several times before that play
You can get away with a slight push off on a route, but actually stopping the direction you’re going , coming back toward the defender, then using a shove to both knock the defender off of coverage and accelerate back the direction you were heading to begin with…as obvious as anything this side of a two hand shove. That OPI is called more often than not. And it was really unnecessary, he had space if he just continued in the same direction, but for some reason decided to come back into the coverage and knock the defender a foot backwards with a ref staring straight at them. We’ve seen worse not be called, but that’s a failure in those officiating teams.
@@itzjakedawgttvyt3749 The Seahawks cost the Seahawks the game, you can give them the OPI TD and one of their missed FG's and they still lose. Best case scenario is they lose by less.
@@seanhaberman4619 Yes, if they didn't call the blatant OPI and then incorrectly called the Steelers short the Seahawks could have won, but those are things the refs did right.
First call was an absolute joke, as was the "low block" by Hasselback. The NFL wanted Bettis to win this SB so bad, they played up his return to Detroit way too much.
Why would you name yourself one of the worst teams of the nfl....kinda sad my dude. Kind of calling yourself a loser without even saying anything. But your comment was like a double whammy lol. So ya you a dummy. @@nyjets2428
@@sscswimmer1No they're right to make it go to review. If they got the call wrong they overturn it no big deal. But if they blow the play dead and it was a fumble, then you can't go back and fix any potential recovery and return. I think this is the way all such plays should be called, let them play on if it's not obvious and then go back and fix it later. Because if you blow it dead you never know what would have happened on the recovery.
As someone who gave up obviously rigged NFL fandom, I don't feel bad for anyone anymore because it's all your fault for allowing this rigged bullshit to continue.
I worked for Disney and ESPN back then and the talk around the office was that in the end, it wouldn't matter because most of the outrage about the officiating was coming from outside of the Seattle fan base.
Why was the hasslebeck non fumble included? That play was 100% clear, they talk about his elbow the entire time ignoring the fact his knee had been down already.
Watching this all over again is frustrating and disappointing lol. I really appreciate the effort put into this video. I think some of these calls have legitimate gripes, others not so much. 1- Jackson OPI- Doesn't look blatant, but it's textbook OPI, all you need to do is look at Jackson's arm extend, touch Hope and then watch Hope's feet after he gets pushed. I think that's a good call. 2- Stevens Drop- For years I thought this was correctly called incomplete for sure. Now I'm not quite as sure, that third step seems to come down exactly as the ball is getting jarred loose. After years of trying to figure out what is and isn't a catch has me befuddled lol. I do still think it's a drop and not a fumble, but this is really close and I can understand why there's an argument for it to be a fumble. 3- Roethlisberger TD- This is razor thin between TD or no TD IMO. It's about as close as it can get. Whatever the call on the field was, I think it would have been upheld. But I think that's where the issue comes in. The official looked like he was going to spot it and then suddenly signals TD. I think if he was more decisive it wouldn't have looked quite as bad to make that call. Regardless, if he is marked short, that sets up a 4th and inch, which would have been really interesting. I don't hate the call, but the process wasn't good. 4- Block in the Back- This is the most clear example of a badly missed call to me so far, though to be fair, I've watched this game about a dozen times and never noticed this until I watched this video. 5- Hasselbeck Fumble- This was originally incorrectly ruled a fumble, but was correctly overturned after a Seahawks challenge, looking live it was hard to notice at first that Foote touched him, but he did. Good challenge and correct overruling 6- Locklear Hold- This one is definitely painful for the Seahawks, I think this is the clearest and most important missed call of the game for them. I can see what the officials are seeing when they make that call (the hand on the back of the jersey of Haggans.) But there's definitely not any grabbing some by Locklear there, that's a bad miss and it adds injury to insult, when they ball goes from the 1, way back and then gets topped off with a pick that leads to the sealing score. If I'm a Seahawks fan, that's the one that burns the most. 7- Low Block by Hasselbeck- Another bad call against Seattle, though not nearly as impactful as the last one. Still, he's clearly trying to tackle Taylor, not take out Townsend, this is surprisingly bad to me how they seemed to not notice that, considering he made the tackle. In conclusion, you can't come away from this game and say it was a good day for the officials, it was bad, but it wasn't as one sided as everyone seems to say. Some calls aren't as clear as some say and not all were against Seattle. However, my main takeaway is that the last two calls against Seattle and the missed block in the back on the interception we're the only badly missed calls. The shame of it is that the last two were against Seattle in a span of 3 plays. This was tough for them, because they go from being on the 1 yard line, to turning it over and putting Pittsburgh near midfield where they would ice the game with the long trick play TD. I've been a Steelers fan my whole life, so if someone wants to call me biased, fine, I get it. But overall I don't think the game was so badly out balanced in officiating like people always say. However, at the same time, it's hard to ignore those last two calls, I won't say Seattle should have won the game, but if those calls don't get made, it certainly makes things interesting and who knows what happens.
nice effort and I agree with most of your points. But you're totally wrong with number 1. Both have hands at each other and Jackson has the better position. No way for Hope to reach that pass. Hope doesn't get pushed, he jumps a step back and plays the referee. Too bad he falls for it like you.
@@sebaslive3476 The fact you see the receiver push the defender a whole ass foot backwards and try to justify it as the defender's Nostradamus level instinct of stopping moving the direction he's moving and jumping backwards at the exact moment the Jackson fully extends his arm is some great mental gymnastics. As easy as OPI gets.
Ya know what’s worse than that hold on 53 ? That it would have been a sack if the T didn’t clearly hook haggans under his arm and across his back. That is a text book hold. It’s not always actually “holding” a players jersey
lol as I was reading this I was waiting for the "I'm a Steelers fan" line. It was pretty clear you're a yinzer, I don't think you have to explain it haha. Anyone not a Steelers fan knows it was completely one-sided and a sham. I don't believe the NFL is rigged but Pittsburgh did not deserve that championship at all. I'd be livid if I were a Seahawks fan.
i feel like half of these weren't that controversial. while it was close, ben did look like he crossed the line before getting pushed back and landing out of it. even if he didn't it was way to close to overcall. hasslebeck got touched before going down so that was a good call. the incompletion was an incompletion, he hadn't made a football move yet. that first "push off" was definitely a bad call but a lot of these just don't seem like they are terrible.
@@westonweigand1228 two feet establishes a play inbounds. It doesn’t establish possession. It’s why you can’t just catch a ball with two feet in bounds and as your going out of bounds drop the ball. You caught it inbounds. But didn’t possess it. He had to turn. To catch the ball. And had yet to come out of that turn to make a football move after catching the ball. That’s an incompletion
@@ToEuropathe defender was flat footed. While there was a push, it’s the same thing you’ll see every other play in the nfl. The defender was not ready for the cutback
@trentwise3762 it is illegal to push off. I get that it might not get called every time, but it's still against the rules. Same with the holding call. You might get away with that call, but it's holding by definition and should be called. It's a little like complaining to the cop that other people were also speeding and didn't get pulled over so you should be let go too. Not really a defense.
As messed up as this game was, sadly this was the last year of the real NFL. The next year Roger the Clown would take over and it’s been downhill ever since
I have heard people use "The last REAL year" so many times it has lost literally any meaning. Ask anyone they'll say a different year. The 90's 2010s 2000s. Fuck even the 80's according to some boomer. So no this was not the last year of the REAL NFL.
Bens dive into the end zone was a TD. I've seen an overhead view of that and the ball did cross in the air. They have never showed that view again for some reason.
Just barely. So close, they could’ve even just called him short. But again it was that close. For years Seattle fans will tell you oh, they give it to him. After he was down. No he was on the goal line with the ball. In the air like you said.
@@412Sportsz Man that wasn't even close to being a touchdown we got cheated this whole game because the Steelers couldn't stop us. That's true, but at least they were in a Super Bowl-- 4 teams in the NFL still haven't even had chances (Detroit, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Houston).
- The receiver did push off the defender. The defender was forced back because of it, and the receiver got wide open to make the catch. Correct call. - The receiver had clear possession of the ball, and was looking to run before it got punched out. It should've been a fumble. Incorrect call. - Rothlisberger's TD was one of those where whatever was called on the field had to stand. It was too close to tell for certain one way or the other. Correct call. - The block in the back was blatant, and should been called. Would've been a 35 yard difference in field position. Incorrect call. - Hasselback was very clearly touched before going down and the refs were right to call him down. Correct call. - The holding call did show the offensive tackle with his hand wrapped around and holding the defensive end for. That is holding according to the rules. Correct call. - Hasselback's personal foul for the low hit is baffling. Hasselback couldn't have been blocking when his team didn't have the ball anymore, he was going for the tackle. That should would've been a 15 yard difference in field position. Incorrect call. This was not a very well reffed game overall. It's a shame that the game if often mentioned with poor officiating. Especially the Hasselback call. That wouldn't have given the offense the ball back. Just a difference in yardage. I am confused about the reputation that it was the worst officiated superbowl, or that it was one-sidedly bad. Anyone else not understanding? I've seen way worse calls in big games in recent years.
From the very beginning I thought something was wrong, the pregame promotion was all Pittsburgh huge graphics of Jerome Bettis on the side of Buildings the whole thing was all Pittsburgh. Then the game started and the officials took over and that was it. This game is one of many used by a growing number of fans around the country who say the games are rigged can't say they are wrong.
I hear over 50 percent of people believe the NFL is rigged. It does seem like the more popular teams usually win. The Seahawks weren't as popular as the Steelers. Is it rigged idk. But there were definitely some bad calls that favored the Steelers.
logically that wouldn't make sense. if the nfl is rigged that would mean thousands upon thousands of people would be in on it. and that amount of people can't keep a secret that big from going public. at least on disgruntled worker would say something.
I believe you. Last Super Bowl with the bogus PI call. Atlanta “blowing” the game, Seattle not calling a run play with beast mode? Year something isn’t right
Third one the ball just has to touch the line. The camera is slightly off but even with the lines that are drawn you could easily determine that it touched the line or at least say there isn’t enough to overturn since the rule on overturning is you have to be 100%
I don't understand complaining about the Jerramy Stevens play. If they don't rule it incomplete, and don't blow the whistle, it's a fumble probably recovered by Pittsburgh before it goes out of bounds
Mainly because there was only one incorrect call the whole game, and Steelers would have had the following TD without the extra 15 on the bad low block call. Even if we pretend it wasn’t blatant OPI, and gift them one of their missed field goals…Seahawks still lose.
@@truoewi I directly said it was the low block call, not sure how you could mistake that. You’re on a video that pretty conclusively proves all other calls were correct.

The problem with your argument is that it wasn’t holding. If John Madden says it’s not holding then it’s not holding. Only Steelers fans think that was a good call. Even the ref, in retrospect, thought he made a bad call.
@@TravisMacKenzie-bo2me The only problem with your argument is that it was OBJECTIVELY holding, can literally see him bow backwards. 1- Yes pass interference (subtle, but indisputable) 2- Definitely incomplete- the rule was more strict then. 3- Ben was in, there is one angle where although you can't see the ball, it's clear that it had to have touched the goal line, and there was clearly no 'indisputable evidence that he was kept out, which is what would be needed to overturn the call on the field). Also that "vertical plane" line you randomly drew is laughable. 4- Hasselbeck should have been down by contact. They got that right. 5- Hold of Haggans was ticky tack, but if you take down a pass rusher who has already beaten you to the QB, you'll usually get called for that. 6-block below the waist was a terrible call. He was tackling.
As a Seahawks fan, this game was the most infuriating thing that I witnessed. Seattle was clearly the better team. No way that 8-8 Squealers team could have beaten a red hot 13-3 Seahawks team. That 2005 Seahawks team destroyed most of the teams on their schedule. If I remember correctly, Shittsburgh got lucky in the AFC Playoffs
At some point you need to just accept its all rigged. It's entertainment, not a fair chance for everyone. Ever heard of the salary cap? Do you understand that there are poor teams that don't sell well and can never make it big because there's no money in it for the NFL? Prime example: Oakland from the 90s up until their move to LV.

Granted, it was on Seattle's final drive, so maybe if those yards go through, Seattle has more time on the clock at the 1, maybe enough time to call 17 Power before that double china pattern. One of the worst calls in SB history! The fix was in on this game early and often! The NFL was bound and determined to hand that trophy to the Steelers!
Seahawks fans can’t seem to let this go. There were bad calls both ways. One or two bad calls doesn’t lose the game for them. Interceptions and turnovers lost the game for them.
I hate the Steelers as a Bengals fan. But this really wasn’t that bad. The PI I can see why they called that at the time. I think Ben’s TD was correct. I don’t know why the touch fumble was on here because they got it right on replay. That was a hold on 53 IMO.
That game was almost as biased as SB XL. However, the refs have gotten better at rigging the game. So they weren't as OBVIOUS about their bad calls as they were in XL.
You know, watching this completely without a dog in the fight, there were only like three bad calls. A lot of them were not bad calls. None are acceptable in the super bowl, I understand that. But I thought it would be a lot worse.
I still don't understand the controversy on the OPI. That's about as clear of a push off as is gets. I see that called all the time and nobody complains.
It’s because it’s contact you see on almost every reception in the nfl today. It was not clear OPI at all because there was no actual leverage gain, it was reaching an arm out and feeling the defender with no forcible movement caused.
@@dimecloud9872 He literally plants the palm of his hand into the defenders chest and pushes off, it’s pretty clear in the video. @@wt1573 ..? how did Seattle play like garbage. I stand by my previous statement. There is no way the defender can make a play on the ball. And this is all not even considering that a lot more contact was allowed back then, then now a days. Also Seattle didn't play like garbage, seeing as they almost won. The NFL will favor teams. This game was in favor of Pittsburgh. The chiefs 49ers one is another example. Look at those videos and tell me that they didn't want mahomes winning
They don’t show Stevens catching and running with ball taking like 5-8 steps then drops the ball around a bunch of Steelers players and wasn’t called a fumble. As a Steelers fan these refs should all been fired!!!!!!! Watching this game before the end result it was like 3 refs for the Steelers and 3 refs for the Seahawks. Remember Bobby Engram catching a ball with possession backpedaling falling backwards, ball comes out and again not a fumble. Nobody talks about these 2 calls ever. The bad calls in Seattle were awful. The one with Roethlisberger is very questionable. Next play QB sneak touchdown. Again the officiating has been awful since late season 1998, and hasn’t changed since. This superbowl was rigged for Bettis and the Steelers in his hometown. The year before the cheating Patriots beat my Steelers so whatever. The NFL IS A SCAM!

@@shawnwilkerson3 Yea, I saw the bad call on the low block, that was only for field position. @@RagnarokMic The rest of the calls were straight up correct? Well, perhaps 1% of the people who watched the game agree with you, so the other 99% might all be wrong. It's possible.
You forgot the missed ineligible man downfield for the offensive lineman who took off before the pass was thrown in the gadget play. The refs didn't (and don't) rig the games. However, like the officials in basketball and boxing, they officiate momentum. They didn't want to screw up the momentum and the moment with a call on the gadget play, so they swallowed their whistles (like they do 90% of the time when there's OPI on a scoring play). The problem is when they are inconsistent and their inconsistency favors one team (like in this game).
Second one. I agree should have been a catch. If the refs hadn’t blown the whistle it would have also be recovered most likely. Can’t remember did walrus challenge it. If not just a missed call by all sides.
I actually stopped watching NFL for 3 years after this BS. I still to this day couldn't believe how much this game was paid off. When Crapperkneel decided to disrespect the flag I stopped entirely.
lol Missed offsides turns into a bad holding call. 15 yard difference+the yardage lost on the play cancellation. 15 more free yards given to Pittsburgh because Hasslebeck dare make a tackle. All in the 4th quarter. I wonder if Jerome Bettis playing in Detroit for his last game had anything to do with this🤔
Easy holding call, even if his fingers did cross a moment too early (which is a big IF) it would have been offsetting and they turned the ball over the next play.
Okay let's nitpick the holding call play, look at the Seahawks formation before the snap, the right wideout is not on the line of scrimmage and there's no-one between him and Locklear (ineligible receiver is uncovered not to mention only 6 mean on LOS) penalty for illegal formation should have been called for two different reasons even if the holding call wasn't correct which should have negated the play anyway. And the 15 yards from the Hasselback penalty isn't what caused the TD, it was the fact that your defense got burnt on a 43 yard TD pass to Ward that would've still been a TD even if the play started at the Pit 42 instead of the Seahawks 43
You won't find one Stealer fan with enough class to admit the refs totally screwed Seattle over all game. EVERY controversial call went Pittsburgh's way. Seattle's offense still outgained Pittsburgh's for the game and the Stealers offense didn't do squat until one of Seattle's starting safeties (who was a second teamer) left the game injured and a third string safety came into the game....and had only been with Seattle a couple of months. Lots of luck and bullshit calls were needed for Pittsburgh to win. I still hate Bill "Coward" to this day and will not watch any NFL TV show with him on it. What a putz!
Go back and watch how many drops there were by Seahawks receivers. The Seahawks D gave up the longest running TD in SB history. They got duped by the WR-TD pass. That, and the dumbest move of all (not rushing Sean Alexander even more) are why they lost. The refs had nothing to do with a below average game planning and performance.
Holding...1st and 20... or 1st and goal on the 2..🤔. I think that’s an impact on the game. The TD was close, but I didn’t think he had it, but it was close. The push off on the OPI, was close, but I think it’s enough to call. I think it’s best to say if the holding call avoided, or the Bens TD taken away, there’s no way to say the Seahawks wouldn’t have still or lost, or they would have won. Perhaps the scores are made differently and the whole game is changed... perhaps the Hawks score on the holding play, and The Steelers come back big because of it. Maybe even blowing out the game from there. Or maybe, some other what if... We can’t say anything about what would have happened, or could have happened- but as a fan of the sport, I would expect a fair game the best we can hope for without having to pick favorites and worry about rigged games or anything of the sort. As a friend of a referee for NBA, I know they are offered deals to help turn the odds. I don’t know if something happened here like that, and none of likely do... but way more than most super bowl games, this one had some serious calls that seemed strange to say the least. Personally I would side with Madden in his feelings for the most part. He seems unbiased in my opinion and has a great understanding of the games rules! Anyway before I write a book about a random video that got my attention, I hope we all find nothing less than an awesome season ahead! Peace and love 💕
The OPI and maybe the hold were a little ticky tacky but the only legitimately wrong calls in this compilation are the two interception returns. The first where Seattle should've been penalized and wasn't, the second where Seattle shouldn't have been penalized and was. I guess it evens out.
It was almost certainly a TD, he was shoulder deep into the endzone before contact knocked him back. They weren’t gonna stop Bettis from a millimeter out if it was a nose hair short.
@@TB_Buccaneers. There is an infinitesimal chance he stopped him a fraction of a centimeter short, just saying, in that slight chance, they weren’t stopping Bettis from an inch out.
@RagnarokMic that Ben dive was on 3rd down, so it should have been 4th down. But if the Steelers did go for it on 4th and goal with Bettis, then yeah, there's a good chance that the Steelers score. But there have been dominant backs stop at the goal line before tho. Just saying! lol.
