The Quantel Cypher grfx system was used during the '88 World Series NBC coverage which started 10/15 just under 2 weeks after the closing ceremony in Seoul. I worked with several NBC guys in '89 who developed it with Quantel.
The question is "Why is Boomer on the air?" His big claim to fame is losing to the 49ers and NOT going to Disneyland. His social commentaries are pathetic and dripping with "white guilt". SHUT HIM UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!
bob costas has had an unbelievable job for the last 30+ years. he is a LEGEND in the sports broadcasting business. he's gotten to know all major football and baseball personalities during his time. joe buck is on his way to something close.
I almost forgot one of the most important uses of Sports Cypher/Paintbox (at least to the bean counters). The combo was used for advertiser billboards that looked better than just flat art stills of 35mm slides.
@lishsc3 To be honest, I'm not 100% sure whether that would be the key thing that would have led to a Cincinnati win. Billups' blunder was only the 2nd play of the 4th quarter. Meanwhile, the Bengals offense was ice cold for much of the game. While Ickey Woods was the game's leading rusher with 79 yards, most of it came early on. Boomer Esiason didn't have a good game either, and the Cincinnati O kept having to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns.
The Late Lewis Billups cost the Bengals a victory here!!! Had he not "Choked" and intercepted a Montana pass in the endzone in the 4th quarter, the Cincinnati wins this Super Bowl, and Joe Montana is knocked off his perch as "Greatest SB Quarterback"!! He would (SHOULD BE) 3-1 in Super Bowls and not have "Zero" interceptions! The reason he has that stat is not because of his Brilliance, but ONLY because of a mistake made by Lewis Billups!!
Funny, they got some air time for Jim Gray and Cris Collinsworth (who was still playing) during the pregame show. BTW-Gray would move over to CBS for 4 years before coming back in more prominent fashion for NBC.
@HamptonRoadsTVFan Well here is the thing...even though that dropped INT was on the 2nd play of the fourth Qtr and the Niners scored on the next play to Rice to tie the game at 13-13, the Bengals shut down the 49ers for the rest of the game until the last drive. The Bengals kicked a FG with a little over 3 min to play to take a 16-13 lead. Had Billups held onto the INT, that FG would have given Cincinnati a 16-6 lead and my money would have been on the Bengals to hold on and win that Super Bowl!
At 13:48 Bob misspoke on some of Dan Henning's past jobs as he was not a former Falcons/Buccaneers head coach. Bob must have confused Henning with Leeman Bennett.
***** the field was in a condition that wilson excelled in and the bengals had a hard time converting 3 and shorts in the game because he wasnt there. I mean if wilson was there then they probably score an offensive touchdown
Sadly he's still alive. He got caught for stealing $130,000 from a Beverly Hills home and got sent away for 22 years in prison. His son Stanley Jr was also an addict. I am just shocked that Stanley didn't kill himself after failing the team and so many people. Even worse that the coke didn't kill him.
