Super Castlevania IV is a platform game developed and published by Konami and the first Castlevania game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, as well as the fourth in the series overall. It was released in December of 1991 in the US. It was also released on the Wii's Virtual Console on December 25, 2006. It is a retelling of Simon Belmont's foray into Dracula's castle, first told in the original Castlevania. The game has all new levels (several featuring areas outside of the castle), 16-bit graphics featuring SNES Mode 7, and the soundtrack consists mostly of brand new pieces including a handful of remixes of previous Castlevania songs. Bluegrass really does add a certain lightness to the atmosphere and setting of these speedrun streaming events. I know this was years ago, but GDQs just wouldn't feel the same without him. He's socially awkward (sometimes to an uncomfortable degree), but he means well and is supportive of everyone, which is rad.

I wish there were remakes of these games available for the current and next-gen (or last gen and current gen depending on your perspective) systems with maxed graphics. Imagine Mega Man 2 with Xbox 360 or PS4 graphics. How wicked that would be.

In general this run is just incredible. So much respect for funkdoc for not only showing off his incredible skills numerous times throughout the run, but also showing a lot of patience and grace when the annoying announcer guy is talking over him reading out those inane messages.

I beat this game on hard mode without whip upgrades or subweapons or loss of life (health was lost plenty of times, though) when I was a kid. God bless the SNES.

yo this commentator needs to shut up donations are fine when theres down time but the dude had no time to explain any of the game. u could tell he had a bunch to say but he had to like but in to explain anything. donation comments are secondary to runner explanations. this guy doesnt understand that ppl watch the stream to see speedruns and hear the explanations about the nuances and tricks of the game not to hear donation comments

its just to cover things like crashes, unexpected deaths that would cause to repeat the whole stage and thigns like that... they mostly add from 15 to 35 minutes depending how unforgiving the game could be

Agreed. I love speedrunslive but I wish the donators wouldn't be so vain as to want their messages read aloud. I guess it's a necessary evil but it's a real buzzkill. It would be better if they just displayed the messages in text at the bottom of the screen or something.

while i can appreciate the announcer's zeal for the cause, if i were a donator, i would never want my donation to take away from the speed runner's run. sure, if it got called out, awesome, but ffs, this is games done quick, not announcer talks for the whole run.

Though I love these runs, I would have to say that this announcer is my least favorite. Too much banter from him often results in less front the runners, and I guess I'm just far more interested in what the runners have to say. Either way, what you guys do is great.

+THE BEER VIKING No It's constantly *reading* very minor and uninteresting donations. That's the problem people are having because the announcer didn't seem to know when it was a proper time to have a word. It's not like he ever asked or was told when it was a time to read the donations, he was simply going on about petty stuff which could have been filled up with a much more interesting commentary from funkdoc.

An AMAZING run, and... I know the video here is old, but... sadly, I agree with everyone saying the announcer seemed to have ZERO regard for the player, the ~timing~ of when to speak and when not to... and just... did ~too~ much. Maybe it's just me, but it should be something like: * Announcer NEEDS to have at LEAST played the game before--maybe even finished it (whether TAS or normal, speed--who cares) * Announcer needs SOME familiarity with the more difficult areas in the game -- so as to shaddup... ;) * Some kind of quick, maybe "visual" check in with the player or... some middle man person to let people know to be quiet for a while IDK. Annoyed me, since... holy SHIT is this game hard enough. Let alone with damage boosts, speed-running, and world records...! Damn.

Look, I understand that people are donating money and their generosity needs to be recognized, but the announcer just keeps opening his yap at the worst moments possible, and then he just keeps going on and on and on. It's like he's not even paying attention to the game being played at all, and he's off in his own world of hearing himself talk.

EDIT: I came back to this to try and finish it again, and just the way he keeps talking over the boss fights and everything... Come on! The announcers on these runs normally dont bother me at all, but the announcer on this run made it practically unwatchable. He literally never shut up for more than 10 seconds during the entire course of the run.
