This is probably one of the most underrated DBZ games there is. If they would have kept going with this series, i think we would have had a great DBZ fighter. The gameplay was almost like a Street Fighter game in a way, and I think they would have nailed it if they'd kept it going. I liked how the stages where cell shaded as well. It gave the game a manga like feel, which i think suits a DBZ game or any anime/manga based game at that. This wasn't great, but it was going down the right road! Just my opinion though.

This game really serves the cake acting as a balanced fighter. The visuals are impressive as well, sticking closer to more of the manga's feel.

Many years later.... I was actually playing this at the arcades, it had a card system where you could save your progress and character. Every character had different variations of builds. There was a bit of a randomness to what add-on skills you get, there was ALOT of people playing this back then. One of my favorites.

The game is good but it is lacking a few more characters and most importantly the possibility to make a duel match against the computer.

I was 9 or 10 when I played this (22 now) never knew Dragon Ball was a Japanese show at the time so I always cracked up at Gokus & Gohans Kamehameha and the intro guy saying "Super Dragon Ball Zetto" was cool i would always say it with him everytime I started the game. I never played anyone but Majin Vegeta, he's a monster in this game lol

I remember getting this with Tenkaichi 1 and 2 in some kind of bundle. I liked it, but never really played it over the others due to the very small roster in comparison.

I discovered I had this game a few days ago. It was the first time I ever saw it and I was thoroughly impressed. THIS is what a competitive DBZ fighting game looks like in my head. It really had the right idea; if it had more variety in combos and the game-play was a little smoother, I'd say it's an underrated PS2 classic. Honestly, I'd love to see a DBZ fighting game similar to this reach the competitive scenes just like King of Fighters, Killer Instinct, Street Fighter, etc. Add crouching normals for the high-low mix-up, a stronger meter management for zoning, consistent specials/fireballs to combo into and a more responsive throw that auto-corrects itself to face the target and you have a fighting game I'd go out of my way to learn. Too bad most DBZ fans are all about cool effects, fast-paced combat like the shows, story and getting a game every year; this style of game-play completely caters for competitive fighting game players and, in its genre is actually quite unique with the ability to fly - It's like Tekken, Street Fighter and Darkstalkers had a baby.

underrated title period!!!! Really could've been a great series if they kept going with it in my opinon. This is still a tie for my fave dbz game of all time a lone with budokai 3. Why you may ask? because I love dbz and I love fighting games so i felt this was a great step in the right direction it only gets hate and overshadowed because it came out around same time as tenkaichi. while tenkaichi can be fun its very simple and bores me to death now. Dbz needs a serious fighting game to me and this game was a step in that direction. the only peole who say it sucks arent good at it from what I've seen lol. just my observation. Many legit fighters of today dont have huge rosters they have great depth though which is what this game needed more of to be perfect. man I wish they made a sequel

I love this game, I wish they would make a sequel. It has something the budokai and tenkaichi games lack, namely that it's actually FUN TO PLAY and not just watch. The custom character mode kicks ass and adds an element of strategy where you can upgrade your own moves and even steal other guys moves! if you have a character like android 17 who is a great close quarter fighter but has shitty ki attacks, you can give him goku's kamehameha and make him much more effective at a distance.

I just found out about this game yesterday. Even though FighterZ comes out this Friday, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequal to this type of Dragon Ball Fighting game! :)

I’d imagine a full 3d open world remake of Legacy of Goku 1-3 would have this art style and and fighting mechanism. I’d be all over that.

Hadn't been aware of this game. Art style reminds me of the PSP Shin Budokai games. Honestly, I prefer the art and controls on the PSP games more than a lot of the newer offerings (i.e. Raging Blast or Ultimate Tenkaichi).

I like this game because it felt like an actual fighting game but the character roster is so small
