Saw the same video you mentioned and tried his way without any success. A year later and abiding by the Coronavirus social distancing recommendation, I have a little time on my hand and was determined to fix it. Your video helped. Thank you so much.
Javier. I did see the duct tape video first.. I thought too much handyman for me! Then I found you and BAM, off in 5 seconds. Don't let the rest of it turn, and apply a little upwards pressure! Thanks so much for taking the time to post.
I think the man on the T rex video is an advertiser of his own product cause it’s all about T rex tape, not about changing or fixing nothing. Thanks a lot bro!
1 year later - still helpful video. I have owned my place for over 3 years and every time the light blows it's a whole process. The last time it blew was a week ago. Couldn't get it to open on 3 different occasions - 3 different days until I was like fine - you tube it, again. I saw that same duct tape video - started the whole process was like this doesn't work. Your video came on right afterwards and you said the most important thing - Grasp The Concept - the cylinder piece simply cannot spin. It literally came off just as easily as in your video. Big help for certain.
Great idea but my husband still could not make the dome budge. That is, until he thought about adding heat to the system. He hooked up an extension cord to our blow dryer and heated the rim outside the dome. Thirty seconds later, the dome easily moved with a slight pressure and twist. We now have a brightly lit room from a cost-saving LED bulb.
Omg…I too haven’t changed our bulb in our HB fan because I couldn’t figure out how to get the dome off. Followed the instructions and it came off in 2 seconds. It definitely requires 2 hands. Thanks so much!
Thank you, I was struggling with it couldn’t figure it out and finally got it open thanks to your video. Now I just need to figure out how to get the light.
OMG after 5 years of trying to get this thing off. Bulb never burned because I would never use it. Thanks, I saw the duct tape video several times, thought it was ridiculous!😂😂😅
I gently placed my head on the middle.of the dome and applied slight pressure while I pushed up and twisted left. It kept spinning and I needed to stabilize it.
Pushing up certainly did the trick. Thanks so much! I also didnt think i would even find a similar model to my ceiling fan with "how do i change the light in my ceiling fan"
Thank you! We watched the other one first and I was like, “no, there’s an easier way”. Our light went out within the first month of moving into our brand new home. Called an electrician, and even when he was here we had to look it up on RU-vid. So watching that other video I remembered it wasn’t that complicated, just couldn’t remember what we did, lol. I seriously just started a new playlist called “Home Help” and you’re the first video so that I never have to look for this crap again. Such a shit design though. We didn’t choose the fans, and if we ever replace them (which technically he ordered an exact replacement from the company instead of getting a new bulb), but if WE replace them, I’m definitely going for something else!!! Nothing that simple should be that complicated. I’m low key irritated bc every light in my house is LED flat on my ceiling and the electrician said he gets so many calls to change them out bc they’re so difficult. Same with the fan, my laundry room light went out in the first month too. They immediately lost their appeal to me at that point!
Thanks so much, I hope I would've found this before I broke my globe earlier today. But at least now I know what to do to change the bulb. I just got to buy another globe now.
Didn't work with mine, but I found out that all I had to do was loosen the three screws in the base that was holding the dome in and voila! It came off easily and I replaced the bulb, but the dome back on and tightened the three screws to keep the dome in place!
We have the Harbor Breeze "Sail Stream" model (model #40048), which is a bit different, but similar. I've pushed as hard as I can without breaking it, and it WILL NOT COME OUT. Can't find ANYTHING on my particular model, and I need to change the bulb.
Yes same here I was heading to trex until u saved me. My wife would never get up on a ladder so very glad it worked. Btw my light fixture was different and although a tad different the technique still worked brilliantly
Thank you for your suggestions! At first it didn't work so I tried banging it with a rubber base of the plier around the edge of the cover with one hand while pushing and turning with the other hand. I think the vibrations loosens it up a bit, so I was able to unscrew it. God bless!
Damn, mines locked up tight...going to have to try the vice grip trick. Thanks. Update, had my wife hold the base as I turned the lens, boom!! Came right out👍🏻 thanks
Can't believe I got outsmarted by a ceiling fan ight cover. I ended up unscrewing the whole fan & it's been disengaged for many months. Ended up taking it down before I discover the secret. Back in action. Now my issue is the remote does not sinc with the fan. This seems to be a regular thing. Thanks.
@@mrapma If the fan has been in place for any length of time, the little grooves get full of junk so it doesn’t operate like brand new. You will need four hands an two ladders.
Bruh no-push up and turn left does not work, especially if the fan light has been sitting and unopened for years. I saw the same duct tape video and I’m going to have to try it bc this push up and left is NOT working
Some fans have little metal screws in that silver part. If you just unscrew them slightly it releases the dome. To put it back in is just the reverse. Start with one screw almost all the way screwed to get one side set in, then screw the rest in once the dome is on place
Why are these fans so complicated and not easy to replace, at least if you are a first timer with these. I wanted to replace the light bulb inside the dome and had a really tough time loosening the dome and followed these same instructions which looked fairly straightforward to me. But it was not easy, and then i gave up and sat on the bed... Wow and to my surprise fell right on the hard wooden portion of my bed and broke. Just gave me the feeling of been Newton (in a dumb way :) ) ... Does anyone know where exactly i can get a replacement of that part. I tried Amazon, Lowes and Home Depot but this fan is so ancient and stubborn that i couldn't find one. The fan itself works fine so i dont think i need to replace the whole fan itself. Thanks, in adv.
My fixture has been in place for over 12 yrs. Your steps are correct. However, I am not getting the shade to twist. I am not sure if it settled there after all these yrs. I will keep trying. Any suggestions out there?
I had just watched they guy you are talking about video with the ducktape right before i watched yours, im having the same issue but as im trying to do it your way i discovered it had two screws thats tuck away which you have to feel around for on each side that holds the globe up(im 5'2)so i didn't have any help & i had to stand on my bar stool to try & reach it.they had the screws kind of tight to twist a lose but i finally got it. Thanks anyway
You're 100% Right ! Apply a little pressure to push it up and turn, and guess what it unlocked perfectly.. No need for that tape the dude was talking about...Keep it up great Tip !
My fan and light don't work. Thanks to your idea I was able to get the lid off. The bulb fuse looks good. I wonder could the fan itself gone bad. My fan is more than 10 years old. Any ideas?
That is the normal way to do it when is not stuck. I have done it this normal way about 3 time in 10 years, but then it got stuck and have not been able to do iunscrew it the normal way. So I’m now on tape idea
