I second this..there’s no better time to work on your chops than now, and Rich is really good at breaking things down and explaining how to build them up. I’m not working on comics now, but the lessons are universal for anyone interested in drawing and art

The best artists are obsessed with details. Arthur Adams is one the best of the best. His expression of forms makes his artwork unique.

His work is absolutely insane. I’m blown away even looking at that second pass pic with the beginning inks of groot rocket and the girl. The balance of the line weights, the intricacy of detail, the overlapping INSANE amount of figures, the foreshortening, the balance between cartoon and advanced illustrative anatomy. I’m just blown away. Seriously. What an absolute fucking genius.

I do believe the pin is for perspective. He attaches a string to the pin.

Correct, I saw an interview where he talked about it.

It seems the pinholes may be old school perspective pins that he used with string to mark off his perspective lines with. Just a guess.

Love this...totally forgot about Magdalene lol, I loved that comic! That cylinder practice is something I’ve taken up..a fun challenge that I have been doing to practice is printing out a top down picture of something like a spider, along with several pictures of a spider at a 3/4 angle and a profile angle, and then using the top down one as a blueprint to try and draw it from different angles. I started with something much simpler, like a coiling snake-which is literally just bending cylinders and tapering them,

I like the pin holes. It's at least one sign that Art Adams is actually not a robot...

Seems a strange place to pin to your drawing board, i wonder if it was compass pin holes. Amazing Arthur keeps that level of detail all these years.

I love the art. Comic art used to be a thing of mine. But having taken a break from doing art has given me a perspective to see that comic women are broken in many ways. Specifically in the pelvis and breast area's... Just observing.
