I might have to make this so that I can wake the kids up Christmas morning!!!! Thanks for keeping this stuff simple and so well thought out. Merry Christmas! RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!!!!!
After listening to the new videos I expected the intro to go "listen to the smooth, dulcet, harmonious sounds of ; MICROJIG, MAKER OF THE GRIPPER. WORK SAFER, WORK SMARTER"
Just finished making one of these, here in the UK we are clapping outside our houses each Thursday evening to show our support for the NHS and other key workers, it will be perfect.
@Buzzsawman Thanks. Mainly, I just see things I like and try to figure out how to make them myself. I've been on kind of a musical instrument kick lately and have been browsing through books of folk instruments. Plus I am a huge Lewis Carroll fan and remembered the rattle in his novel. Most of the one's I've seen are made out of two pieces with a separate strip sandwiched between them. I wanted to simplify that with a one-piece design.
@stevinmarin Yes we made one of these at school woodwork class circa 1960....something? We used two square blocks instead of the "Cog" and two "Clackers" as you say sandwiched between the frame. These "Rattles were used in the Trenches in the First World War to make noise to scare the enemy and save precious ammunition.
where do you get your inspiration for your projects...I mean who else would say to themselves "I am going to make a noise maker?" You have the most unique mind and I mean that in a good way
@xaboo Strangely, I post everything I shoot and I shoot most of the stuff I make. I just don't shoot stuff I've already done before. (I've made lots of bandsaw boxes since my bandsaw box video.) What I don't post are the many little tests I run before cutting my work pieces.
With all due respect, it's not (only) a Mexican toy. You can find it all over Europe, they are traditionally used on Easter to call people into churches, after the 'bells flew to Rome'
Good job steve, I can see it now,,, some little kid says, "hey, I want to try it" and proceeds to slap himself in the face with the hardwood piece. Oh well,, I guess that is how we learn.
Being my contry (Spain) the winner of the South Africa soccer world cup which took vuvuzela to its fame nowadays, I would REALLY like to see if you could figure out a way to make one!
@Yaakov763 I was thinking about Purim too! We read Esther in church for Purim every year. Boy, do we make ton of racket w/ these things everytime M@%$&*@#'s name is read.
@ScrollsawVideo - I think it's all those industrial solvents and lacquers in the air in his shop... XD @stevemarin - How's your health these days? I saw someone mention skin cancer, so I had to go digging back through your older posts to see what was up. At least in this video, you seem to be in good health and good spirits; are you back to (I hesitate to say "normal" considering the videos I've seen, but...) your old self? Loving the videos! Thanks.
steve i thought he is your younger brother until i read the date... hey man been watching ur vids these past weeks... i suscrbed... do you this for living? wish i can afford all those tools..
@RockinGuy1994 HA! When I was editing this together, I had to laugh at that. My brain often gets ahead of my mouth. It's a real trick to get a bit inside a bit!
You are obviously an intelligent person......but sometimes I think that you are a little 'off'. How in the h&#$ does your mind come up with these projects? I love your work and ability to communicate.
This looks too complicated, and I decided to tray it. Well, when I put the upper thang on the side panel I found that the piece that goes over there was broken so I rebuilt the lid to conform with the dowel gizmo and found that it would not did what it, anyway, I tray to remake the base panel and put the under shoe on the leg, but it didn't work ithar. So I gave up. mmm maybe the thing of a gizmo don't be long enough to reach the two, but who carers I went back to the football game, just in time to see him hit a homeran.
+74KU Arrrgh, that all what you can up for demoralization? Then you are way cheaper than any wood rattle maker or any wood rattle. To make a heap of towns and fortresses we only needed these wood rattles and shofars, so guess what... be aware what you wish for, a Jew with metal.
