​@@myspace_foreverat this level of complexity, I don't think you wouldn't even be able to produce an arrangement like this if you hadn't the skills to actually play it. You would either underestimate or overestimate the difficulty, even if you are a guitarist yourself.

@@SponkADonk Yeah, I mean that's pretty typical of fingerstyle guitar. That said, I've been playing fingerstyle for 3 years, playing about 15-30 mins a day. I couldn't even dream of playing something like this.

@@Romans8-9 i've been doing it for a bit longer, 5 perhaps, but i'm still shit at playing melodies and bass at the same time , i don't really sit down enough and analyze sophisticaed melody lines and practice those in i basically do fast strumming with tons of hammer-on/pull off finger twiddling in between i never really bothered to analyze many songs so slowly and meticilously either :D

You should check out some 60s and 70s japanese jazz you can see where the influence to some of these old video game soundtracks comes from. Just frighteningly good musicianship recorded 50 years ago.

As a classical player, it's not as hard as it seems. Your thumb does the work and it creates the timing for the whole piece. There are very few notes that are played at the exact same time as the bass, it just sounds "busier" than it actually is because its fast. Baroque pieces and Spanish Classical pieces especially use this counterpoint technique ad nauseum. Classical guitar itself is easily the most challenging to play, yet also most rewarding due to its difficulty and many overlaying techniques you cant find anywhere else. Polyphia - Playing God is a warmup to a good classical player.

Guitar is only a secondary instrument to me, but I can absolutely appreciate how freaking CLEAN this was with all those jumps in hand position and fingering. Give me twenty years and I'm not sure I could do this so cleanly.

I am that untrained eye you speak of and I can tell you this still looks hellishly difficult.

I learned a couple of pieces from Bach, but they were simple, Minuet in D minor and Cello Concerto in G. But this is just amazing.

He's playing three channels (instruments) on one instrument, without the benefit of two hands like on a piano. Of course that will be complex.

8 bit hardware could do multiple channels and fast tempos. The main shortcoming was the sound quality.

It really is a pleasant, pretty piece of music

As someone who left the game on pause to hear the isolated bass line.. I can say the same.

I was about 18 seconds in by the time I realized the complexity of what he was doing, playing both the melody and the bass which are completely independent rhythms.

As far as I can tell this is a different arrangement. It's not in the same key.

Hey thanks so much! Yeah I transposed it for a good reason that escapes me at the moment.. but I think mainly it opens up some open strings I can use to change position and hit open basses in high positions I could not otherwise.

I’ve seen that would be hard but I think this is harder with the walking bass line and constant changes. The entertainer is very repetitive

Many guitarists play The Entertainer, Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel etc

@@joevalle9317 Richard Smith's arrangement is crazy, just look it up and you'll see the complexity. Tommy Emmanuel acknowledged him being the only one in the world who can play it right.
