To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Super Mario 64, I am remaking it as a series of 2D levels using Super Mario Maker. The first level in this series recreates Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress, Cool, Cool Mountain and Bowser in the Dark World.

Nintendo Switch should create a SMM sequel that includes a 3D level editor. Maybe it'll happen.

i don't think that'll happen. nintendo released super mario maker because 2d drag and drop is easy. making 2d mario levels is simple and fun. But can you imagine if they flipped that into 3d?! that would be too complex and difficult for kids and nintendo are about simple plain family fun.

I really love how you recreated the various concepts and mechanics from the game, like "Throwing King Bob-omb off the mountain" and "racing the penguin". And of course the general level layout. Well done!

I absolutely love Super Mario 64! It's the first video game I ever played. I grew up with it(even though I'm not from back when the n64 came out) and it will always be a special game. Thank you for doing this! You did a great job!

@@Mqstodon not true, I'm sure there are people who prefer the 2D style of super mario bros 3 over the 3D style of NSMBU. Also, remember you're trying to make the style match with Super Mario 64's style, the NSMBU style just doesn't match at all.

Great concept, and the timing is on point. Everything is arranged spot on. Hwever NSMBU has wall kicks, so that could work for cool cool mountain.

Yeah I didn't get it at first, but when he explained it I was so amazed. With only 2 checkpoints max, it's amazing how people find ways to reuse checkpoints. He used two methods here: 1) Reusable pink coin checkpoints (people use this all the time) 2) Because of the reusable pink coin checkpoints, it's impossible to die after that first checkpoint, since you immediately get that second one (unless you choose to cheese and run out of time after getting it, but it's their problem if they don't want to play the level). But once you get to the Bowser spot, since there's no second checkpoint, if you die, you'll start back at that checkpoint and fall down to the bottom. This made for some pretty interesting multiple checkpoints! Bottom line is, yeah, I totally agree, this guy is a genius!

I am a long time Nintendo fan. SM64 is my favorite game. I've never wanted to buy Mario Maker because there isn't much appeal to me personally. After watching this video - I want to go out and buy it. You did a great job recreating the levels with a limited pallet to work from! This is amazing!!

BRICK 101 I hope you made something with the Clock level for stop it or accelerate it. Maybe with P Switch? Or Three times the same level but one time with no Moving plateform, one with moving plateform, and the 3rd one plateforms with wings for higher speed movement. And the level you Fall into his choice with... Times? ^^ But I'm pretty sure you have done an Amazing level once again! =D

Your level really makes me feel as reexperiencing mario 3 for the 1st time. And what i also like is that for example if you put yoshi in a mario world level,and swith that level into mario 3 style, it just swaps to a karibu shoo to resamble yoshi and visa versa, since mario 3 lacked yoshi.
