Super Mario 64: The 120 Star Run 

I think the reason Mario 64 is admired and fond over so much is because of the time it came out and was being played. In the late 90s main console games are making a jump to 3D, Pokémon was the new big thing, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, and Goldeneye were the main event of after school hangouts and pizza sleepovers. It was a a beautiful time. A time before I had to do multiplication and long division.

11:55 - It's funny, I had a similar story. As a kid, I only had 119 stars acquired because I was missing the second one from Peach's Secret Slide. There's no indication from the game that there would even *be* an extra star there and so I gave up looking for that last star. I got this game in '96, so I had to wait nearly a decade for GameFAQs to become a thing and find out the hard way where the last star was. I almost threw my keyboard at the screen I was so mad.

i was so scared of the piano as a kid, that I would mentally prepare for it everytime i wanted to go there for stars, and then cry on the spot when it started moving. my mom was mad at me for crying at a video game, and my dad couldn't stop laughing. also had an irrational fear of the urchins in mario galaxy for whatever reason.

Had weird dejavu when watching the second half of this the next day only to realize that Choc talks about these same 4 things at the beginning and the end 1. Metal Mario music going hard 2. Chocolate chunk rice krispy treats 3. Game being frontloaded with the best levels 4. Correcting himself about the good late levels 4-2. Microwaving his copy of the game

to be fair, Koopa the Quick is definitely quick to his kind when you consider he's a turtle where in most games they barely move that fast at all

I used to remember about having a dream of an extra toad hidden in the mirror room giving the secret 121 star You wouldn't believe my disappointment when i myself went there and found no star

you should make more supercuts playing these older games. not just for the nostalgia factor, but also for variety because about 80% of what i see in your channel is newer games.

so a couple of fun facts that i've seen so far. 1: the little whomps in Whomp's fortress, you can repeatedly jump on their backs to earn an extra 5 coins before killing them 2: in the sunken ship, you can actually swim to the top of the ship to avoid the annoying platforming and save you a huge headache 3: for the star at the top of the pyramid, as a kid i always just used the wing cap to fly into that little notch and just grab the star. never knew about the platforming up the side until a lot later 4: for red hot log rolling, there's a wing cap in the level that you can use to fly to the star 5: easiest way to beat Big Boo is to just face away from him and just repeatedly ground pound when he gets close

What do you mean all the good levels are front loaded? Man I love (15) Rainbow Ride, (14)Tick Tock Clock, and (12) Tall, Tall Mountain. Those are great levels. Great game overall and this joint holds up.

i read in an old game magazine that the rabbit was originally a Temporary character they used as a "filler" for characters they hadn't designed yet but were programming the behavior for. so, it deserved a little recognition.

As a decent 16 star runner. I have taken all notes into consideration and will applt to my runs.

if you Backflip into the entrance of "wet-dry world", you can make the water level start out even higher than the highest level-changing gadget! that makes it a lot easier to reach the friendly bob-omb and unlock the cannon. "Wiggler's red coins"...if you look UP, you can SEE wiggler from there.

I admire your dedication to 100%-ing this game, Choc. I never 100% Mario games, and certainly not this game, but I have 100%-ed Galaxy. Honestly wasn’t all that bad, except for one certain purple coin challenge in Toy Galaxy. Hated that one.

I just re-completed this game on Switch in under 10 hours! Probably the 3rd or 4th time I’ve done it…

I loved this game when I was a kid, but didn't go that far on it back then as I did not speak english and was sometimes kinda lost about what I had to do. Around 18 years later and I've started playing it again for the sake of nostalgia. Yesterday I got my 52th star, was already losing my mind with the controls, but tought "well I guess I'll try and get all the stars, it shouldn't be that many left, right?"... And then just now I got this video recommended...... I'm not even halfway through lol

I remember my frustration with this game, is this one 100 coin star in a specific level where there are exactly 100 coins in only 1 of the mission levels. As every other mission you barely got 85-90 coins.

I feel like this game is a core memory to anyone born in the 80s and 90s it just brings back so much nostalgia. Such an iconic and revolutionary game, from the soundtrack to the levels to the raging when your older sibling won’t let you have a turn even tho you agreed to pass the controller when you die and it’s like their 10th time but since they are older they can get away with this shit 🤣

I like Rainbow Ride, its probably one of my favorite Mario levels. I like Tick Tock Clock too. Honestly Dire Dire Docks and Snowman's Land are the only levels in this game I don't adore.

I need you to know getting the eel out of the boat is the dumbest thing ever, there IS no way to lure him out, what the game wants you to do is swim away after finding him so he can glitch teleport out of the boat. Guess they couldn't figure out how to get him to swim out of the tiny hole without clipping through the ship

Ive never got all 120 stars, but ive beat the game over 100 times well collecting 70 stars, and the grand star, theres glitches though where runners beat the game without collecting a single star.
