This is the original Super Mario Bros. 3 ad from the 90's. It is unlike any of the others that I have seen online and seems to be the oldest of all of them.
this game is legendary. I clearly remember the box sitting on the floor in my basement, and my cousins coming over to play it, probably around the time it came out. it's crazy how much is packed in a small cartridge with such limited space. it's just one of those games that's always fun to play, no matter when.
Those early game makers are goddamn wizards. I am an ameture game designer as a hobby. I've recently been remaking SMB2 just as a learning experiment for myself. I have a variable jump, speed, and momentum physics, including 2 enemies that act a lot like goombas or red turtles. VERY feature incomplete. My game is 500kb. The original SMB2 is 128kb. ... how. the. FUCK....
I saw this commercial when it first aired. It blew my mind as to how on EARTH they pulled it off. Of course _now_ I know it's just CGI, but seeing CGI do stuff like this was not common enough in 1989 for it to be expected to be used in a quick ad for a game. during the early to mid 90's, seeing the flat graphics of news and ESPN networks start to use CGI 3D graphics was notable as well. I remember watching a football game (American), and they put a simple little dancing 3D football character at the bottom corner of the screen while a game/Superbowl played, and I, my friend, AND his dad would laugh and be mesmerized by it. It was just like how in the late 90's, there was one of the first TV ads for a web based business, and the newscaster remarked at how strange it was that browser URLs were being advertised on TV.
@ Mario World had some mediocre levels. The controls aren’t as good either, a bit too slippery. I do like the atmosphere in Mario World more although there are only a few environments.
Oh yeah The Wizard that movie was amazing and I remember watching it it was awesomely amazing that it inspired me so much that I am looking to the internet every month to find out when is the next nintendo championship tournament coming so I can enter it.
It's hard to describe what it was really like when this game came out. It was epic. They even made a movie - The Wizard - which was essentially a 2 hour commercial for this game, and it showed the first secret where you crouch on the white box, go behind the curtain and find the flute.
What a great commercial and the anticipation for the gameplay scenes was out of this world.. we don’t experience that anymore… it today’s world it would have leaked before the game even game out
I chanted Mario's name the moment when Charles Martinet made his appearance at the TooManyGames expo back in 2018 (just like those kids in this commercial)!
duranduranlover Holy shit dude were you actually seen in the video? If this commercial was really 27 years ago then a lot of these people are in their 40's! :D
@eclectica1 That's still pretty common today. We just have more FMVs and rendered cutscenes to watch instead. Plus Mario 3 had "The Wizard" which was pretty much a 2 hour Mario 3 commercial.
Now they actually show you footage of the game in the commercial. Back then they didn't because the quality was too bad for TV! The games weren't at all!
the good old days ...... I played this A LOT!!! when i was young, but i was never good enough to beat the game on the NES. It was easy on the SuperNES (Mario Allstars) and on the GBA remake, as the both had a save funcion...
Regardless of how many people there are, they would not be viable from space no matter how many of them are close to eachother. Maybe if they were all holding huge cards twice there size. But at that point you may as well just plop down huge blocks of wood.
@MrsonicPwnsmario Guess what. There's also plot twists in Mario games. Mario and Luigi gets smallowed by bowser and you actually play as bowser for most of the game.
