I think that it’s main issue is other Mario games existing. I still think this game does things no other Mario does; but SMB3 on the same system…. You hate to see it

Uhh, getting a 1UP if you collect 100 of them ? That's always been the purpose of the coins

@@zach7551 and vanilla you gain a 1UP for 100 coins also green mushroom is a 1UP as well

One extra life is 100 coins. Interestingly, in the arcade game version called Vs. Super Mario Bros., arcade operators could change this minimum to 150, 200 or 250 coins.

The prototype version of this game, and the SMAS remake for the SNES, both had Small and Super Mario in his old Donkey Kong color palette (red hat and overalls, blue shirt); Luigi, in those two versions, had green overalls and a purple shirt.

At least because the end timer bonus doesn't apply in the castle levels.
