In the early 1990’s, Mario and Luigi were all the rage. The Nintendo video game franchise had become a massive worldwide phenomenon, so it only made sense for Hollywood to try and cash in on it. The Super Mario Bros movie was the first movie based on a video game ever made, and it did not exactly inspire confidence in the genre.
Starring Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper and Samantha Mathis, the movie is completely bonkers and raises a whole lot of questions. Like how did dinosaurs also evolve into humans? Why do none of the characters have anything to do with their video game counterparts? Why did they go all-in on the plumbing aspect? Why does President Koopa not just go through the portal? How did they think this would get a SEQUEL?!

I just can't believe that the whole abomination went through writing, casting, pre-production, filming, and post-production and nobody stepped up and said "Jesus christ, what the hell are we even doing?" There were so many stages where this should have failed, and yet it passed all those with no issues.

Lol at Ryan poking fun at evolution not being real science like chemistry or physics or even math and poking fun at it lmao. Evolutionist thinks: give it enough time and magically a creature will mutate functioning and useful parts and change entirely and somehow reproduce with a female of itself that also evolved at the same time nearby so they reproduce and then inbreeding wasn't a problem and natural selection selected those mutations somehow even though we never see this happen ever today and woallah after millions of years they develop self awareness, consciousness, and have two arms and two legs and a brain that understands language like humans"

Fact is, that while the movie isn't exactly a good Super Mario movie, it's actually a pretty good dark, gritty, Sci-Fi creature feature set in a dystopian future in it's own right.

It is a euphemism and it shouldn't disturb you. All in on Plumbing is just a date with only the sex part, a relationship with only the sex part, or having your 7 best friends over with only the sex part.

It was an odd movie for sure. It was from 1993 and a lot of it was about what life would be like if Trump was president. King Koopa was styled after him, as were rather a lot of other movie villains. It has a weird amount of depth and prophetic political commentary for a movie which was supposed to be about Mario Bros. Yup, that was a product of Charles Martinet, who didn't voice Mario until 64. Before then, Mario's only voice was from the Super Show and... Hotel Mario...

In 1990, The Super Mario Super show was the only talking Mario or Luigi that we had, and I think Mario was always supposed to be an Italian-American from Brooklyn. So the way they talk in this movie actually fits. Everything else about it is totally bonkers though.

David Marks well yeah, the script that convinced him to sign up for the movie was completely scrapped and it became a completely different story. He probably just wanted to get it over with

I'm pretty sure the original creators of Super Mario Bros. were tripping balls. The game only seems normal in comparison to this movie. If you explained it to someone who had never seen video games, they'd think you were on acid as well.
