I 💯 Mario 64 back in the day, but it's the only game of the series that I ever have. Well it will be the only one, right up until I play Wonder into the ground over the course of the next month.
I'd love to 100% it but I'm not sure I even can. It's funny, I can no hit a boss in Sekiro or Bloodborne but I absolutely suck at platformers, especially 2D platformers. I still can't beat any of the special world levels in this game, lol. I don't know why I'm so bad but I am.
@@MarkHogan994 it's no different than any other game. Practice it, get better, then 100% if that's your goal. These people in the comments, myself included, that talk about the game being too easy have simply played games like this enough to "git gud" at them. I'd be willing to bet actual money that amongst those players, we'd be able to find one who was absolute trash at the games that you named. Play it if you enjoy it, and don't let others steal from your experience.
@@MarkHogan994 it’s pretty easy to cheese most of them if you silently agree to team up with a rando or get a friend and smartly use standee’s, and the invincible characters are there too. Totally get if you wanna try without a handicap though. If you want, I could think of some tips since I’ve completed a lot of the series. It’ll take you a while to do the final challenge, but the journey is worth it personally.
Wonder's online is made better by the fact that there's no competition. Nearly everyone is in this mindset that "I lose nothing from helping" so nobody's a dick. That and revivals just make online a good thing to do.
Yeah but completing the world had way better reward. And at a time while the game was really new and fresh, wonder just like the answer to indie games.
@@Siara87there is objectively much more variety in Wonder, and everything is executed to perfection. I get you may be nostalgic for the feeling you got from playing World for the first time, but if you stop playing games with an expectation of “but is it better than this other older game I played 30 years ago”, you’ll discover just how joyous and amazing this game can be.
I adore games like this, because I, a SMB/Duck Hunt beginner from Ye Olden Days, can grab this with my wife who started at New Super U, and we can both enjoy Wonder together with the same amount of joy. This game is joy in and of itself, distilled, refined, and poured generously over everything.
I hate that this game causes the fanbase to feel the need to piggyback off the NSMB series just to prop this game up. A game can have merit without shitting on the previous entry.
I have to say I love this game so far. I'm playing through it with my 6 and 4 year old and it's been a blast for all of us. The added challenge of getting through a level while keeping the 4 year old alive and not using up all our lives makes it great for my 6 year old and I. 😂 It took a while to convince him he wanted to be Yoshi instead of Mario but we did it. Great game for the whole family.
This is super late, but I’ve found it easier to just play as yoshi with my younger siblings… you don’t have to worry about dying as much and the little ones can hop on your back to get through difficult areas. Plus they can still use the power-ups and if you get struck, neither of you take damage. Sucks to not be able to use powerups, but you can collect powerups for them to use later. 😊
Lucky Jirard collected SOoooo much coin Now, hopefully that coin could be used to create a mushroom that cures alzheimerz.. Also, may we find ALL the hidden levels that have 600K + coin😊
I was just glad to complete this game and see that Nintendo are still capable of cranking out a FULL game that's got loads of polish. My only gripe is that the Standees need to be unlocked to fully complete the save file, I never played or intend to play online, ignored the standee shop my entire playthrough, and then figured out I had to unlock them all with flower coins. Flower coins that have a cap of 999, which you can reach before halfway through the game... so I freaking lost thousands of coins I could have used to unlock these stupid useless things, instead now I've got to grind for coins with the rest of the game finished.
It’s a short game with easy completion criteria. Plenty of levels you can 100% your first time through if not by the second or third. If you do every level as you go like that you’ll basically be at 100% by the time you reach the final boss so doesn’t take much longer than just playing the game normally.
I think every developer should take notes from Wonder where everyone contributes to the process in some fashion I’m not saying they’ve to do it exactly but Wonder is truly something special
I wasn't sure about Mario Wonder at first. After watching your review I want to give it a go. I'm if I'll complete it but I'll finish it. Thanks for another great episode.
Yeah, but since the jars are filled with water, you can throw them. Basically, the elephant triples their effectiveness. That stage would’ve been a better showcase for the elephant if the water was in pools or fountains so you could only douse the fire blocks with the elephant.
just got 100% in this game. was pretty mid but the communication features are fun. final bonus badge is almost funny. there’s literally nothing else to do after you 100% so now i’ll just play it when friends are over
We had almost NOTHING Mario since the end of March 2021, then the movie happened, then the June Direct showcasing Super Mario RPG Remake, Princess Peach: Showtime!, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, and Mario Wonder, then the September Direct which had *F*CKING PAPER MARIO: THE THOUSAND-YEAR DOOR REMAKE!!!* We have been undergoing a Super Mario Marathon, baby, and every Mario fan is LOVING it! Edit: *MARIO WONDER IS A NOMINEE FOR GAME OF THE YEAR!!! THAT’S A HUGE DEAL!!!* Also 25:35 just let this play out lol
very surprised he didn't talk about how beautiful this game looks and how alive it feels, especially with the backgrounds and how expressive the characters are
How can it even be remotely close? 😂 It's literally the same game from 35 years ago, but with elephants now. Zelda at least, even if some fans hate the direction they took since BotW really changed things up. I personally think this is a lazy cash grab by Nintendo for middle aged men with glued on rose tinted glasses.
The biggest bummer of the game is that there's not more. I completed it playing casually over a week, and now there's not really a reason to go back to any of the stages. Also, "opaque" generally refers to things you can't see through, you probably wanted to call the green check marks "transparent".
I don't have a problem with the Power Ups. I feel some Mario games try to include too many Power Ups (most of them returning ones) and it just doesn't get much mileage out of them. Mario Wonder has 3 new Power Ups which is the most new Power Ups we got since the first two New Super Mario Bros games, and I feel they're a lot more versatile and less situational. I also like that, unlike NSMB U or 3D Land/World the game also has more new Power Ups than returning ones, so the experience feels fresh.
Other than the bossfights, I have one complaint: where were the bloopers? My favourite little squid boys...gone 😢 also I crave more flying buzzy beetle levels like back in wii
I really wish it was more challenging. I felt like, as far as difficulty goes, it was no harder than Planet Robobot. However, Kirby games are designed with little to no challenge. I think Mario Maker ruined my brain for a Nintendo developed 2D Mario.
That’s something GrandPooBear has been saying. People have gotten so used to watching/playing kaizo Mario stages that they forget that main 2D Mario games are all pretty easy. Wonder is easier than others, but not by much.
Only 13 hours?? You're good. Congratulations. I'm doubtful I'll succeed but I'm trying to complete it. Thanks for mentioning Nabbit has no knockback. This one level was giving me a hard time replaying.
Playing it now and don’t want it to end 😭 It’s so fun and inventive! I find myself listening to the soundtrack at work. 😅 It’s crazy, I’m a 42yo man who’s been playing since Mario 1 on NES.
@@traviscunningham7062same. I’ll be real, I did not expect either of these games to be as good as they were. I never really liked breath of the wild that much, but tears hooked me for a solid 150 hours and earned it’s spot as my #3 favourite game ever. I anticipated wonder much more, but I expected it to be similar in quality to NSMBU (which, to clarify, is not a bad thing. It’s my #2 favourite NSMB game). This game blew me away with the wonder mechanics and badges. This game is probably also top 10 for me. Also damn you really are everywhere aren’t you? I saw you on a 12 year old Sonic Colors vs Super Mario Galaxy video earlier lol
Also do you realize how similar Sonic Unleashed and Twilight Princess really are? Both have the main character turn into a wolf, both have a small comic relief sidekick, both introduce a new villain who’s helping out with the main villain, both have a character with amnesia, and both games were on the Wii.@@avocadeous
@@traviscunningham7062 ah I see. I can relate to fans ruining a franchise for me.I used to be a pretty big Pokémon fan until Scarlet and Violet dropped. I couldn’t put up with the toxic fans on all sides. Gen 4 and 5 elitists on the right, modern day Pokémon apologists on the left and the neutral people getting attacked on all sides. Fans suck sometimes.
13 hours?! That's incredible. I'm 34 with a, just turned, one year old. Got the game on launch and I'm halfway through world 4. Skipped a lot of stuff I'm gonna go back for. Can't wait to try the online. Kudos. Hopefully, I'll finish this in a month. Move on to Metroid prime remake, and than..... Maybe in 3 years or so..... 😅 I'll go ally play tears of the kingdom! Mario Wonder is very incredible regardless. And your criticism is valid. But it's a Mario game. They never have unlockables much, and they don't have that many power ups. And the boss variations are never a lot. If you are a kid of the 80s or 90s, you know what's up
the thing i appreciated the most about this game is that the world map had depth to it again. There were hidden paths and bits of "free roam" with secrets to find on the map. i was worried since the world maps hadnt been creative in some time
27:44 I completely disagree about this being a sad thing. It's an extremely good thing. Too many games that are basically single player feel the need to stuff in some multiplayer achievements or things you can only get playing online. I absolutely hate that, and hearing that Wonder had online play build in was a huge worry for me. I am glad the developers implemented it in a way that while it is still rewarding and fun for those that want it, it doesn't make those that only play single-player feel left out.
I was glad this online mode was like this I was on the last stage the badge marathon and was on the invisible badge party the last one and I fell thinking I had to start over then I turned to a ghost cause somebody had put a standee out on the stage near the goal I sprinted towards that thing and manage to beat the level lawd lol

2023 is definitely one of Nintendo’s best years. Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime Remastered, Super Nintendo World, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, F-Zero 99, and now THIS! And WarioWare: Move It! and Super Mario RPG in November!
This game is absolutely beautiful. It definitely breathes fresh life, personality, and freedom into the 2D Mario formula. The levels are so creatively surreal and imaginative, the character designs are cute and fun. And the new power ups are so cool.
The brand new art direction is such a breath of fresh air after being suffocated by the "new" art style. I mean, simply having the characters facing at a 3/4 instead of side on when running is such a small, but great improvement to appeal
@@youtubesucks1821 The art is completely different, and looks great. Look at some reactions to the first trailer, a lot of people's first thoughts are "It looks different!"
Art direction and animation is hugely important for gameplay. For me the return movement that feels like World beats any gimmick like the wonder flowers. Mario animates with crisp precise graphics just like in World or SMB3. In nsmb Mario is this smooth 3D mush that really hampers the feel of the game. So yes, graphical representation is very important for how playing feels in a precision 2D platformer
Jirard raging at randos for not getting the hint about where something was had me legit laughing. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if what Jirard said about how a bunch of concepts introduced could be its own game comes true. I predict a year from now a number of indie titles will take various concepts from Wonder and base the entire game around it. We'll have to see.
25:35 THIS. I was so bummed about the online mode, but I was surprised how fun it actually can be cuz it's so funny when we are trying to help each other figure things out or scrambling to each other for a respawn.
Mario Wonder was like a Box of Chocolates. I had no idea what crazy, trippy, and wonderous surprises I was going to get. And I love how Unpredictable it is.
