Super Mario Bros Z was one of many of my childhood stuff I would watch. along side Angry Birds, Club Penguin, and Wii Sports. So seeing you do another Analysis to SMBZ is something I am always down for. I will explain my way of Analysis the episode and will give my honest opinion about it and the Analysis video Sequence 1 off the bat I can agree with the spacing. The way that the plains and other areas look like actual Camera shots of areas and it makes more lively then it was before. Also what I really like was Metallix's introduction. the Camera rotates around making this scene an importance to the series. It also shows how much of a threat It is like how everything gets dark, Bushes are getting pushed back and the ground that Metallix stands on. It really show what he really is. And of course the first actions It does is to demand the Goomba the Chaos Emerald, and kill them. Also can I just say the Close up art for Metallix looks perfect? Its shows how threating, out intimidating and how much he controls the scene. I really love it. Sequence 2 Now the first I want to touch on is action with the Mario Bros and the Wario Bros. The most notable thing is that its a Fighting Ring and not a Race. I honestly think this is a better choice because it gives us what each side is capable of. Like how Mario is tactical and takes advantage of Wario's Clumsiness. or How Wario and Waluigi don't play fair when Wario tackles Mario which leds Mario getting stomped. And how Luigi saves Mario with the Invincible Star. And because of this little fight scene it gives what we know about the characters. But there is something that I notice that I find really interesting. And again I can totally agree with the spacing. Instead of it looking like a 2D animation, It adds close ups, land marks, and my favorite aspect, areas from each side of the Mario Bros and the Wario Bros. It really makes it like an actual Anime like most Anime Shows have done. like putting attention to characters both visually and figuratively. Also it does add some of that Cartoon dep to the characters like Wario and Waluigi. And honestly I think it fits. And of course the Lighting for the characters look amazing. Like I said, It gives attention to the main show. wither its a character, a thing, or any part of land, it shows what is needed. Sequence 3 The introduction to fight is structured very well. With the Music setting a now threating them to know what Bowser is. But it isn't just that, we do get a few flashbacks of Bowsers Training and how the Music is build up to the Climax to beginning of the Fight. Speaking of the Fight, there are few things I want to add on to the fight. Phase 1: each phase of the Fight shows what is powerful and what isn't. Mario and Bowser have shown to be Pretty even when it comes to the fight. But like I said Mario does take advantage of something is exposed. Like how he land a huge Uppercut on Bowser. But the Fight shows How Bowser plays out. Its shown how ruthless he but also determine to defeat Mario. For example; The Attacks that he use from Shell underground Shows what he can do. But like Mario, He can take advantage of a weakness in the fight. Phase 2: This is where we see flashy and interesting counters from each side. Mario uses the Fire Flower and the Episode does take advantage of it. We see Both Mario and Bowser use there firey powers and counter each attack they try to throw at each other. And of course how Bowser takes advantage of what he has. Like Sending down a rain of Firey to scare away the crowed and gives a grin from it. This shows how determine he is and how much this means to him. And how he fires at Luigi to take advantage of Mario's Kindness. Bowser is something not to take likely and the Episode truly shows it. Phase 3: This is where the situation is has become dire. Bowser uses a Metal Mushroom which gives him a Strong barrier. This sets up Power dynamics. While Mario's Fire Flower is giving him to use Fire abilities so he can master them, But its shown that it doesn't do anything because of it has no effect to the Metal Shell that Bowser is in. However, Mario still tries to fins openings that he can attempt. Like using his Golden Hammer or use all of his Fire power to at least do some effect to him. I really like this. Its set up the important objective, but it leds to a question. What can deactivates his Metal Body? But no matter what Mario does, nothing seem to work. Which leaves him with no options and give Bowser the perfect opportunity to end him. However Luigi stands in his way. We know that he is scared about most everything, but we know that he cares Mario most of all. He was scared of Bowser when he first saw him, but this time he stands against Bowser knowing he will do anything for Mario. However, before Bowser can end it all, a Capsule crash down on him and destroying his Metal Barrier. Which leds to Phase 4 of the Fight: Luigi give Mario the feather cape (which works the same way how he saved Mario's life with the Star) It give him the power of flight. And as I said explains of the Power dynamics for the Power Ups. Mario defeats Bowser while dodging all of his attacks. However, before he lands the final Blow, Kamek threatens Mario by Harming Peach. Like I said, Bowser takes advantage by every evil thing he can do. Which leds to Mario surrender and gives Bowser once again the chance to end Mario. But the same Capsule that saved the Mario Bros, opens up 2 Shadowy figures and one of them attacks Kamek and saves them from Bowser and give Mario the chance to defeat Bowser. And revealed that the 2 Figures that were in the capsule were Sonic and Shadow. Thus ending the episode. Overall, This Episode did so much that I didn't know I would love. Improved Animations, Better Atmosphere, Great Sprites and how well made scenes. I am excited what Mark will do next in Episode 3. But yeah I hope you like my analysis to the episode. Also Amazing Analysis Video Frffy. I would add other stuff to it, but you already did that. But I have to say your Analysis are incredible. They truly show what little details work so well to the show. I commend you brother :)

Hm, so when do you think your analysis of Episode 2 will come out? Also, have you ever checked out any of the other series, that has more or less been emulating SMBZ’s style in some ways?
@@FrffyVsAnime i see, well as long as it is on the way and DOES eventually come out, i can wait as long as i need, so you just take as time as you need, no need to rush.
The one aspect that's one of the best improvements over the original canon is the characterisation. Most of the time, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi felt like dicks to each other. The general tone was: Luigi gets scared. Mario and/or Yoshi either looks annoyed or snarky. Then they beat him up. Or: Mario and Yoshi are in danger. Luigi either stands around panicking or runs away. Episode 1 of the reboot blows the original out of the water simply by showing that Mario and Luigi genuinely give a damn about each other.
Just to clarify, I could have sworn I heard Rawk Hawk would be an antagonist at some point, but there is obviously no clear evidence. I don’t think he’s just some one off gag, since his inclusion clearly highlights he’s important to some extent. Also in the games he was known to collect gems/stars to build his reputation so it’s always a possibility.
It honestly astonishes me what Mark Haynes can accomplish on his own with this series, and yet still improving at the same time. Admirable is an understatement. Great analysis dude, and I liked that you echoed some of the same points as in the previous video. 👍
This was a solid analysis. Definitely highlights the strengths of the rebooted episodes, particularly when it comes to its more dynamic camera work and the use of 3d space. Hell, I didn't even catch the continuity with the battle damage and how it comes into play later. But one thing that I really didn't understand was the tangent about Rawk Hawk being foreshadowed as a villain. He doesn't show up in the image of antagonists that you used as footage for that sequence. If anything he's more being set up as a parallel to Hercule.

I wasn't expecting it, let alone to be reminded that the BG I did for the poster is still apart of the thumbnail XD Secondly, you pretty much nailed what it feels to be a fan in this video like, hot damn. Thirdly, I love how you analyzed this, since I've been doing that myself to study animation to get better since I'm still new to making animations myself, even if I was in the Ep 6 collab animation wise, besides illustration. That and you made me learn some new stuff out of pointing out specifics on the improvement and level of detail in Reboot Episode 1. Makes me look forward to whenever you do one for Reboot Episode 2~:3 Keep up the awesome work!
I really love how you can see that Mario is more agile while Bowser uses his brute strength, it’s such a good way to characterise them during the action
I think this version of the Metal Bowser fight better emphasized the foreshadowing of a "metal" version of a character being far more dangerous than the original. I say "better" specifically because of Bowser's new roll move referencing Sonic/Mecha Sonic's roll. This works especially well because they establish that Mario > Bowser. We can be pretty sure Sonic ~= Mario, but BOTH have mech versions of themselves. So we can surmise that both are more powerful than Metal Bowser.
While I like his eyes too I wish he had kept more of a monoeye, maybe widen it to be more like the mono eye Zeon Mobile suits have in Mobile Suit Gundam. Even if you haven’t seen Gundam, watch any scene with a Zaku in it and notice how expressive these giant robots are. Their monoeye moves about the visor making them look intimidating or scared. I think the same could have been done for Metallix Granted the original design had more of a cylon monoeye and two eyes is more in line with Eggmans design. But dramatically I think it could have worked. I like the current version but I think Mark could have pulled it off.

6:46 Also last night when I rewatched reboot episode 1: I noticed that at certain points throughout the Mario’s fights with Wario and Bowser, when you see Peach in the background the expression on her face will change depending on how the fight is going. That’s retty cool detail if it was intentional.
I don't know how related it is to this video, but I just want to point out that the original series was in an unfortunate state where most of the sprites that Mark had available to use were limited to Superstar Saga and Paper Mario. (And near the end, Super Princess Peach) The release of Bowser's Inside Story in 2009 - the same year Mark had to put an end to his original series - I think it plays a huge role in how much better everything looks in the reboot. So much of Bowser's moveset and expressions exist because of that game. Obviously Mark's talent can't be understated in regards to the usage of the available sprites and other visual assets, but I think that the BiS style complements this series far better than what we had before
Oh yeah, the updated sprites from the newer Mario & Luigi games definitely helped. But Mark is also a sprite artist & he created the Axem Rangers X sprites as well as the updated Metallix.
I agree with both of your reviews of the first two episodes 100%. In the original series, I couldn't help but think that certain fights and characters were merely thrown in to raise the tension or just for fan service with no regard for the actual story and its narrative. It also didn't help that the introductory cart race and how Bowser barged in on said race in episode one didn't make a whole lot of sense. Like, couldn't he have barged in on a cart version of his Koopa Clown Car? And where were the other racers? Unless you're racing for pinks, you don't race someone else alone... But this reboot... GOOD GRAVY! This is thousands of leagues above the original series in terms of having a good narrative flow. We have proper introductions of plot elements, certain characters such as the Wario Brothers and Koopa Brothers have actual narrative importance, and Eggman being introduced early in a fashion that is much more faithful to who he is as a character (he loves the spotlight too much to stay in the limelight, for one thing), lend themselves to a much more logical and naturally cohesive story. Even the Smash Brothers tournament makes the competition between the Mario and Wario Brothers make 300 times more sense, and it was genuinely entertaining to see just how faithful it was in representing the Smash Brothers series with the random power ups and even pulling in Waluigi as an Assist Torphy! And goodness, many of the angles we see Metallix's face with remind me so much of the original Metal Sonic shots from the Sonic OVA. Mr. Haynes has greatly improved!
@FrffyVsAnime Thanks. I can't say this enough, the reboot Mr. Haynes is making is solving so many problems that the story of his original series had. I can't wait for the following episodes to come to see if Mr. Haynes fixes more problems, such as the introduction of the Yoshi tribe. Will the Yoshi tribe welcome Mario, Sonic, and friends to the island, or will the reason for the fighting found in the original Episode Five make more sense because of the creation and possible attack of Metal Mario? Only time, and Mr. Haynes' storytelling will tell.
Genuine question, when did Rawk Hawk get foreshadowed as an antagonist? I didn't get that vibe at all when I watched the episode. I more so saw him as just this show's nod to Hercule/Mr.Satan from DBZ. More so just a funny side/gag character. Maybe he will be more integral later, but I didn't get that vibe. : /
