Few if any video game franchises in history have seen as long and consistent success as the Super Mario franchise. With so many games falling under so many different genres, there are very few stones which have left unturned over the course of multiple decades. That hasn’t stopped the fanbase from inserting theories of their own based on the information presented throughout the series. Out of some of the more prominent theories floating around on the internet, which ones hold the most water and which ones crumble faster than Bowser’s bridge?

@@naoyukiyoneyama5222 for heroes, the most good is Kirby, since he is basically a ball of positive energy. And I don’t know who the most smart villain is. Ganon? Because he is able to reincarnate several times. Pokey? Because of reinstating Giygas and taking control of a city wide cult leader. Octavio? Because of all the advanced weaponry his species built and them being able to survive long after they were confirmed dead.

Lady in DK Arcade has been confirmed to be Pauline, although interestingly, in Japan, up until 2014 in which it was confirmed, Pauline and Lady were considered different characters.

Jumpman is Mario. Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed it. Super Mario Bros. 3 is a stage-play, yes, but it’s based off true events. Mario and Bowser put their differences aside for the sake of go-karting, sports, etc.

You can love and want to marry someone without being evil. In that case, the repeated kidnappings were fake and used as propaganda. And, as astonishing as it sounds, there have been a few cases of people somehow managing to rule without being evil or crazy.

@@jackwilliam4436 Propaganda wouldn't make Bowser look like a good and caring father, or a good king genuinely respected and loved by his minions instead of feared, and propaganda wouldn't literally LET YOU PLAY AS BOWSER and have SO many games where Bowser HELPS the good guys. What kind of dumb propaganda gives their enemies good qualities? Also, don't even TRY saying Bowser isn't evil. He blew up ISLANDS in dream team without knowing or ASKING wether or not people lived there, and then he laughed about it. He constantly invades other kingdoms because he wants to RULE THE UNIVERSE, something he says many times in the games, he ENSLAVED people in paper jam bros. And in the yoshi island games, he travels back in time to try and kill BABIES. Or in one case, he traveled back in time to kidnap babies all across the planet in order to find the seven star children and rule the world, he kidnaped CHILDREN.

"Coins have souls theory" Sorry, but you've got that in the wrong section. It's completely debunked. See, while the manual _does_ say that Bowser turned many Toads into blocks, it _also_ says that when you hit those, they'll offer trinkets to help Mario. This only happens with _unbreakable_ blocks, meaning there's no way Mario can be killing any of them. AND it means that those giving coins are just _giving you coins._ "But what about the Mega Mushroom" you say? Ah, but you forget: the block transformation was ONLY in the first game and NOT any of the others. Therefore, any destruction of normally unbreakable blocks in later games is completely irrelevant! "SMB3 is a stageplay" Yes, the events of SMB3 are confirmed to be a play... but don't mistake that to mean they didn't happen in canon as well. Point of fact: Mario World is NOT a stageplay, yet has elements in it that directly imply SMB3 was a series of actual events. Remember the sunken ship stage? That's a crashed SMB3 ship! The manual for SMW ALSO mentions this isn't the first time they fought the Koopalings, and the only game prior with Koopalings was SMB3. Of course, one _could_ say _every_ game was propoganda by Peach, but at that point you've run into the trap of doubting literally _everything_ in the series. Besides, would Bowser _really_ sign on to be the villain in a smear piece against himself? It's just way too many factors to believe.

i actually believe Jumpman is Mario's teenage nickname for his jumps and yes i believe that since Arcade DK is Cranky, Mario and Pauline were teens then. DK and Yoshi series are times when you question Mario lore the most.

about the dr Mario theory, i justwanted to mention something. (it's not canon so don't take it seriously) but there is this Mario manga, called "dr Mario" where we follow the adventures of dr Mario and friends. It's only avaible in japanese, so i'm not sure about it, but at the ending of the manga, we learn that dr Mario is actually Mario from another univers. ( wich could make sens, because of all of the theories around the differents univers in the Mario games) but hey, Mario is at first a game based around gameplay, and the only form of "lore" we got is with Rosalina from SMG1. Just thought it was cool. (btw; if anyone understand japanese, please, translate the dr Mario manga for us, it's could be awseome to understand it)

In Super Princesse Peach she defeats Bowser after he kidnaped Mario and Luigi. If she loved Bowser why would she do that? Also Bowser doesn't just kidnap peach: He attacks her kingdom, destroys toad town, and in paper jam bros ENSLAVED HER PEOPLE, and in paper jam bros we SAW peach trying to escape. The only reasons Peach is so easily captured by Bowser is because: This universe is basically a cartoon, cartoons don't really give a crap about logic as long as there can be plot. The toads are CONSTANTLY portrayed as being weak and un-capable of defending themselves outside of some exceptions, and they're peach's guards, sooooo yeah. Peach herself has only ever defeated Bowser when she had help. In Super Princesse Peach she had a magical parasol and was also given powers based on her emotions by the vibe scepter,therefore making her stronger, Toadsworth himself said to peach that she needed that parasol before the game starts, meaning it'd be much harder for her to defeat Bowser's army and Bowser without it, and in other games where Peach is playable, so are Mario and Luigi, so she never actually beat Bowser on her own, she always needs help. And like I said, we saw that she tried escaping in paper jam bros, and we saw her yell at Bowser and be angry at him in paper Mario 1.

@@DaveysWonderfulWorld except the Mario theater theory is clearly false, the only game confirmed to be a play is Super Mario Bros 3, and no, what miyamoto said in his interview was that the Mario characters were LIKE actors, it was just a fancy way to say their universe is cartoon-like and logic doesn't really exist. However while it is POSSIBLE that the Mario games are a play, that can be said about ANY fictional stories, there are no solid proof of the Mario games actually being plays.

That last theory? A truthbomb? If Peach was making propaganda against Bowser then why would she show him as a caring father and a caring king towards his minions? And Bowser's minions are portrayed as extremely loyal to Bowser. If the games were propaganda made by Peach she wouldn't literally have Bowser SACRIFICE HIMSELF IN SUPER PAPER MARIO. What kind of propaganda makes the enemies have redeeming qualities?! The characters are never shown as "shallow", Bowser's minions are always portrayed as being loyal to Bowser not out of fear but genuine loyalty, and Bowser is definitely not a shallow 1-dimensional character you said he was. You even contradict yourself by saying at the end that Bowser was shown many times to not be so bad! Why would Peach make Bowser look like he has redeeming good qualities? What kind of dumb propaganda does that? What kind of propaganda let's you PLAY as the villain?

You're right, the toads were not turned into coins, they were turned into stones, bricks, and horsetail plants. Also, satan does not really collect souls, that's just a made up folklore not mentioned in the bible at all.

(This will scare you!!!)At the end of the new Super Mario Bros Movie, you see the New World Trade center as the other two Original Buildings were seen standing in the first Mario Brothers in the 90s. Pay attention, In the commercial Mario is watching it says it's why we're here as (he winks); a tribute to the All-Seeing eye and Satan. 911 was a huge sacrifice, not only in New York City, but also in Hollywood ,and the Stars performing these roles know this. The Mario series doesn’t deserve the BULLSHIT or downright awful theories given to it like the “Bowser is a good guy”, “Mushroom Kingdom is a drug hallucination”, “Mario supports communism”, “the entire Mario franchise is a stage play”, and the “Princess Peach propaganda” theories. All of these theories are awful and bullshit and just straight up have no real evidence at all to back them up. The Mario series DOES deserve better story/lore expansion theories though like the whole “Mario Universe features a Galaxy with demons” theory.

The soul-Thing is actually plausible, given that there are a lot of cultures, especially non-Hellenistic ones, in which everything case a soul. Japanese Shintoism is one of these. (Me as a Tengrist, this doesn't surprise me either, neither does the idea of absorbing souls)

I’m tired of the whole Mario series is staged theory because, 1 the devs only confirmed SMB3 because it was staged obviously but to answer the why is peach a damsel in one game and a fearless hero in others could be because some games are in one multiverse and the other games could be in other multiverse’s for 2 reasons, 1 is because in the Mario & Luigi series, the bros had hammers, signature moves, no live system where in other Mario platformers ha only had a jump and power ups to attack and could only take up to 3 hits in the platformers. So I am putting a theory out where there is a multiverse in the Mario series because of the difference in character angles, mechanics, and worlds because notice that it’s rare for Mario games to reference other earlier ones unless multiple games are set after others but other than that the games are all separately placed in one multiverse like let’s just say, RPG universe, Brave peach universe, damsel peach universe, platformer universes (yeah universes because it’s hard to say if all the platformers are linked together), Rabbid universe, paper universe (which is in the RPG universe because of paper jam), jumpman universe, and Olympic Games universe to say a few. So with all this evidence, the multiverse is almost downright confirmed by all the separation in the whole franchise of Mario and whether it was the devs intent or not there is literally no evidence not backing this claim up.
