Hello there, GDQ viewers! Taking part in this race was an absolute blast, and personally, I'm quite proud of myself for how I did. I know Jhay exceeded everyone's expectations with his performance, and obviously that should be commended, but don't forget the rest of us! I especially want to recognize Clair/MutantsAbyss, this was her first mainline GDQ appearance and as someone who's been wanting her on the big stage for years now, I'm super proud of her for sticking it through and putting on a good show. Hardcore getting his own sub 3 is also insane, and most of us hit most hard strats first or second try! Of course, Jhay setting the record should not go unnoticed, the madman. Make sure to follow everyone in this race, including the wonderful commentators who did an excellent job! Thank you, GDQ, for letting me bring this game back along with 3 other amazingly talented Mario runners for an even more insane showing than last time. These games have been popping off since 2020 and as a longtime community member it has been incredible to watch! rox's constant commitment to shouting out everyone in the galaxy community was so sweet and wholesome, even if i had zero idea who any of them are (although i suppose i do now!)
This was the greatest speed run I've seen on GDQ since Zallard tore apart Punch Out for Wii. Commentating was flawless and Jhay's game play was on a whole new level.
They were too busy doing mario impressions because of the donation but at about 1:43:30 there is some incredible improvisation from jhay to get those purple coins without dying.
This was really interesting to watch all the routes at once. Seeing Jhay being one star ahead but 1 galaxy behind then watching the routes come together was so cool!
Saved the VOD for when I was feeling a bit less sick, glad I did. Knew this was going to be a flash race, and the runners did not disappoint. Some truly majestic execution from everyone all around, and while Jhay was runnin' like he stole it, everyone had some *incredible* runs and some tight, clean movement. It was just poetic the whole way through, and that's the kind of thing you love to see. Everyone did truly amazing.
What an awesome watch. I've heard of world records at GDQ but never seen one happen without knowing, much less in a game that's been with me for a long time and that I'm so familiar with. In a lot of races I just end up watching whomever pulls ahead in the first few minutes, but the variety of routes and strategies shown off here made it well worth watching all of them. Lots of cool moments, narrow saves, risky plays that paid off, and on top of it all, some golden commentary that was both entertaining and informative. I have enough fun just watching speedruns, but this was an absolute treat.
I'm surprised the commentators didn't notice that, and IIRC no one in chat pointed it out either. I had the idea of doing that long before the race, so thank you for giving attention to it. :) As they always say, "Yoshis are tools to be used and discarded."
watched this live and what amazing runs all around! it was such fun seeing everybody's different routes and everybody had great moments! plus seeing a world record was amazing!
What a race & of course grats to Jhay on the WR on the big stream but this was such a fun race between 4 top level runners & it certainly showed throughout this whole race.
Absolutely phenomenal runs from all four runners. Unbelievable to actually see a WR happen here on the big stage when it matters the most. It’s so rare at GDQ events, so to have it also be for a game I care so much about is really special.
Hearing Spike open this run, I thought, "Whoo boy, this is going to be a high energy run! Awesome." Then Rox started up and... whoa... *Better. Than. Coffee* Rox? More like... Roxtar. Ya know? Like "rockstar" - the energy drink. Has that joke been done before? If it has, I don't care.
legends all around, and seeing Jhay set a WR on speed running’s biggest stage just confirms the magic of GDQ and the dedication of the runners and the entire community. congrats to all!
GDQ doesn't typically do this (and it would probably have been a pain to organize anyways, especially online). Besides, this race wasn't really meant to be competitive, it was moreso meant to be an exhibition of the game. Personally, I didn't mind having an 18 second deficit for that very reason.
So do they have to re-collect and bank a whole bunch of star bits after every run (whether it was reset or successful) just to prepare for the next run?
Most runners have an SD card with a SMG2 save file that has a sufficiently filled Banktoad for runs. When we need to refresh the Banktoad for new runs, we simply delete the save data from Wii System Memory and copy the SD card file over. It can be a bit of a hassle (especially when using JPVC, like I did) but the investment is worth it.
To whom it may concern, Can you please please please minimize the borders when doing multiple runs/races. On tablet/ phone it is hard to follow or sometimes even see the gameplay. This is only the 3 time asking but I really can't watch alot of your runs/ regular shows due this.
I'm not really sure what removing the border would do for multiple gameplay screens. With the amount of game screens, they're going to be small if you're watching on small screens. Removing that stuff just makes video worse overall, and barely makes the actual real estate for the game feeds bigger.
@@ChurchnSarge They got everything on their border including the date and time for some reason. They could remove some of the border to make more space for game play. They keep adding more and more border, just to include stupid info such as date and time. The border use to be smaller so you could see gameplay.
@@zombiesithblade1579 Yeah, so they have useful information added to the layout, that again, even if they removed, would barely increase the amount of screen you can see. There's still four gameplay screens. Removing useful info, to make each individual screen slightly bigger, isn't going to make the watching experience on mobile that much better, and is gonna make it a worse watch for people on desktop. If you remove literally everything except the four gameplay screens, it's still gonna be small, even on a tablet. There's no getting around that. I have literally pulled up four player races from as early as 2014 on my phone and tablet to check, and the screens are basically the same size.
@@ChurchnSarge On this channel at times the gameplay for two people only take up 33% of the screen at times for both screens. My point is that they should at least have 50 % or better for gameplay. This is a gameplay channel after all, not a news or weather channel. They do the show the first steps check out Sonic Frontier on there... Borders getting bigger and bigger for most of thier formats. I even have a bigger tablet then I used too, this never used to be an issue but now it is.
@@zombiesithblade1579 I get that it may be frustrating watching gameplay of multiple runners on small devices, but I have checked out earlier marathons on small devices and the gameplay change isn't that much different. By nature of having multiple screens, the gameplay is gonna be smaller. In terms of 33% of both screens, if you have examples of this, those specific things might be things that need to be address going forward, but I legitimately don't know of any like that
