Seriously getting chills watching this. Special cup was so fucking hard I remember my brother eventually smashed the controller losing on the rainbow road for the 100th time or something. I remember playing so much I was almost as good as this (for some courses anyway) 'cause well...you just needed to be to beat the game ffs.
Here's what I remember on rainbow road. I'd be flawless, then hit a Thwomp, then get smashed by same Thwomp, then THROW my controller across the room and shout F F F lol
I wish there was a way to figure out just how much time I spent playing this game as a kid even up until now at the age of 34.. Can't even imagine the hundreds and hundreds of hours I spent with my siblings and now with my kid on this game.. Might even be over a thousand by now. So amazing.
Don't you love it when you see videos of people playing games you played as a kid...but doing it in such a fashion that it makes the games look like they were super easy when they were hard to us back then? This game takes me back to when I was a kid. I used to love this game...though I hated the ice stages and the Rainbow Road worse than I've ever hated anything.
me and my family grew up beating each others record for years playing this game. but we always avoided using bowser because one mistake and its pretty much over. but man this guy is too fast. 51 seconds in the first lap. the best we can do with toad is 58 seconds.
@ch282 Heavier does not equal to faster in the real world. thats why no chubby olymplian runner exists. Thats why race cars weight less to run faster. lets not be ifiots.
Judging the Mode7 effects in this game was wickedly hard. Sometimes it would seem like you were going to make a turn only to run straight into an object. But it was hellafun.
Anyone else remember getting stuck because of those damn thwomps or those moles on your face as a kid? This was the first game i had as a kid.. Yoshi is ftw!!! Nice run.
@@SirDavid290 Try race with Toad or Kooper, their karts handle really nicely. DK and Bowser are the hardest with no traction and slightly more speed, the others are inbetween both extremes.
This is some godlike playing. I just realised all those games I played with Toad for the handling, but I powerslid anyway.. I never thought of playing with anyone else faster. I'm talking thousands upon thousands of games, too.
Not going to lie, I can still come in first place overall at least 90% of the time, being an '86 baby, but coming in first on every track was very rare for me. I wouldn't even pretend that I could do it this fast, ever. Maybe a track or two once in a blue moon but...
Wow!! I'm happy to see that I got quite a good technique (if not as good as yours) after watching this. Also your recoveries after minor mistakes are great!
Overall, I would say that Toad is the fastest racer on most tracks at 150cc. You never need to step off the gas for any reason and can make every turn by jump turning. My best non-cheat result was the 1st track of the Flower Cup where I had a time of 51.87.

We didn't see Donkey Kong Jr. in another Mario Kart game so it was logical to see DK28 do a speedrun of Super Mario Kart with Donkey Kong Jr. as tribute to one Mario Kart character we will never see again.
My approximate best times for Mushroom Cup are MC1--51.6" DP1--1'08.7" GV1--51.5" BC1--1'17.5" MC2--1'06.9" I often try to do a full run of Mushroom Cup in less than 5'30" and is incredibly hard (without retries). This conservative run here of 5:34 is very good.
Tony Macon DK and Bowser actually have the highest top speeds. However they also have the slowest accelerations, so to do well with them you need to keep your thumb on the gas and avoid slowing down as much as possible. I find it funny where he takes a shortcut across some water and ends up posting slower times on those laps than the times when he just stayed on the track.
@@darknight-xe1llAnd Yoshi and Princess are by far the worst drivers for 150cc. I can't quite understand it...but the CPU always seems to gang up on them more than anyone else.

Dude! Outstanding driving. Better than me I must admit! That shortcut drift on the first ghost house is epic! There's some other moments where my jaw hit the floor... But... at 34 minutes on special cup ghost house you had two feathers and didn't use them right! Turns 4+5 (the first lefts on the course) use the feather to drive straight off the cliff to get as close as you can to the straight away... but make sure you're facing >45° to the finish line and it'll lift you onto the straight away. It's tricky but doable
My childhood friend and I grew up playing this game. He and I were very skilled. We could keep up with these times using the welterweight class of Toad and Koopa Trooper, though we would only be a few seconds behind.
more coins= more speed, so if you got more of the coins you could shave off a few seconds on each lap of each course. Great DK, I was a koopa troopa driver.
Awesome run, I used to play this a lot with my cousins, it brings back so many memories. Btw if I recall correctly this 3:50 is a shroomless shortcut I think, perhaps it might have saved you a few seconds in lap 2, I might be wrong though
I played that while I was like three years old by play as 150 cup with these following characters. mushroom cup , koopa Troopa , flower cup , toad. , star cup ,Donkey Kong Jr , special cup , Mario
I could never gold on the 150cc Special cup as a kid, watching it now how close the CPU is behind this guy with as good as he is driving I don't feel bad about it at all.

Is this 25:31 by adding up all the track times? I ask because I've done a speedrun of the entire game start to finish in 33 minutes, including all the time in between tracks and the victory sequence after each cup.
