Longplay of Super Mario Land Timelines, a romhack by RyanD. No commentary. LOTS of save state usage.

The game was challenging, maybe a little unfair in places without the use of save states, but overall unique and worth trying out. Many of the backgrounds and levels had fun ideas and shapes in them (cities, space, castles, underwater ships...). I was on the fence whether or not to recommend this romhack because the many of the backgrounds and sprites look incredibly glitchy, and it can be hard to tell what is the foreground and what is the background at times. But I think it's worth trying!

Oh wow never seen it on the original green screen, Thanks for playing! I'm going to be making an updated version with fixes based off feedback. Lessen detail in specific areas which will allow more space again for more coins in the later levels. Fix overly hard and unfair parts to create a more normal, normal mode. Making areas like the ufo crash much more readable. If I could get the game colorized that could be a major fix for a lot of overly prominent background bits. And yeah playing this game and then playing the original I did realize I was losing a lot of the sharpness of it. A lot of choices were sort of a tradeoff.

Thanks for making it!! It's really impressive. I'd love to hear more about the development. I'm sad I wasn't able to get a better look at the backgrounds because I was too busy trying to not die. :D

I played the original GBA version a long while back. Part of me want the game to re-release to have crazy levels like these so I can play with those old memories again.

Yeah. This is probably as close as I've come to playing a kaizo game, and I wouldn't even classify it as a real kaizo game! Not sure I could ever make it through one of those without save states... XD

Maybe with a different emulator it would be less glitchy. The rest of it looks great.

It was played on gambatte. The video does looks like the screenshots posted by the creator of the romhack. It's not bad, maybe glitchy isn't the right term... The backgrounds were pieced together using existing tiles from the original game which produced some very clever levels. But it's missing a lot of the sharp cleanliness of the original game. Ultimately it's a neat effect that only caused me to be confused in a handful of sections. :)
