For everyone having troubles with the guide: When you choose between which kingdom you go to you also choose which way the portrait in the kingdom will teleport you to.
To be more specific about it: The Cascade Kingdom painting will always lead to Bowser's Kingdom The Sand Kingdom painting will always lead to the Metro Kingdom Between the Lake and Wooded Kingdoms - the kingdom you go to first will have a painting leading to the Sand Kingdom, while the second one's painting will lead to the Luncheon Kingdom. The Metro Kingdom painting will lead to whichever of those two kingdoms you visited second. Between the Snow and Seaside kingdoms - the kingdom you go to first will have a painting leading to the Cascade Kingdom, while the second one's painting will lead to whichever Kingdom you visited first at the other fork. The Luncheon Kingdom's painting will always lead to the Mushroom Kingdom. The Bowser's Kingdom painting will lead to whichever kingdom you picked second at the second fork. The Mushroom Kingdom painting will lead to whichever kingdom you picked first at the second fork,
Mushroom -> Snow Cascade -> Bowser Sand -> Metro Wooden -> Luncheon (Sand) Lake -> Sand (Luncheon) Metro -> Wooded (Lake) Snow -> Cascade Seaside -> Lake (Wooded) Luncheon -> Mushroom Bowser -> Seaside Keep in mind that the paintings can take you to different spots than the list above depending on the places you went first in the game. The parenthesis are just what my games like.
It's important to know that the kingdoms the portrait will take you to can be different from the video because personally I got the portraits that lead to the lake and wooded swapped
This game brings back so many memories of Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy 1+2. I know that the Galaxy games are linear, however I do believe that those games really have more in common with 64, Sunshine, and Odyssey than they do with 3D Land/World. Because Mario Galaxy games have hub worlds, mission based levels, lack of time limit, power stars instead of flag poles, and as much as the launch stars determine your path, there is still plenty to explore with each planet you visit, especially when the planets are big enough.
Now I think I’m one of a few people who chose wooded kingdom over lake kingdom because,”Wood kingdoms would provide plants that have flowers on it for the bouquets! Why would you want to use a lake for anything related to a wedding?”

Volbono always take you to the same place
I get that this is a throwback to Mario 64, but the paintings feel so out of place in this game. The paintings are supposed to be their own separate world from the Mushroom Kingdom, not some transportation thing. I wish they could've done something else that's cooler.
It appears that it varies from copy to copy. Mine is Cascade > Bowser Bowser > Seaside Seaside > Wooded Wooded > Sand Sand > Metro Metro > Lake Lake > Luncheon Luncheon > Mushroom Mushroom > Snow Snow > Cascade Interesting.
Am I the only person that has paintings that is switched? My Lake kingdom painting ( 2:05 ) is actually Luncheon Kingdom, which is fine, I just go to Wooded Kingdom and I will have the right painting, but why is it switched? The only other time I have seen it the way mine is on a livestream by Fearsome Fire. Tell me if this is something that only happens to certain people. If ths occured to you, tell me about it!
Why does the warp in my mushroom kingdom go to seaside kingdom?!? I can’t find my warp the goes to snow *edit:* my warps in the bowser kingdom and mushroom kingdom are swapped! Eg. Mush warp ones to seaside and bowser warp goes to snow?
Not random, but determined by whether you went to Seaside or Snow first. You went to seaside first, so that’s where your painting lead. I went to snow first, so mine are like the video. Hope this helps
Fuck off I wasn’t talking about the ds version. The ds version wasn’t even a remake. It was more like a revamp, as I don’t remember being able to play as Yoshi, Wario, or Luigi in the original.
So I figured out some paths will lead to different places when you went to the sand kingdom from the lake kingdom. My game made me go to the luncheon kingdom from the lake

At least you get a nice view and see the stage just floating on nothing underneath it and they stage with the mermaids or whatever for me has the luncheon kingdom
how do you get the secret to tostarena post game in the lake kingdom? I have a save with 689 moons and the painting their is for the luncheon kingdom now. If you know what to do please let me know
So are the stars from 64 exactly the same as power moons but a different shape? Not sure why they didn't program the game to say stars instead of moons when you're in the mushroom Kingdom. They could still say they do the same thing to the odyssey ship and add them to the moon count.
You gotta beat the game first, they don’t want you going to Bowser’s kingdom early, cause the way they set up the secret path in that level, you can EASILY get from the floating island to the place with the stair-face ogres and warp back
For some reason the locations Bowser's Kingdom and the Mushroom Kingdom took you to switched for me. Bowser's Kingdom took me to Snow Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom took me to Seaside Kingdom.
Justin Archibald It’s because you went to Seaside Kingdom before Snow Kingdom. The person in the video went to Snow first, so his paintings are opposite to yours
that's strange, the lake kingdom portal leads to the luncheon kingdom and the wooded kingdom portal leads to the sand kingdom. it's switched for me. edit: in fact, most of the places the portals lead to are different for me.
