Thanks for all the comments on this video!! This is something I had made for a gamejam from MFGG back in 2020 which I just now decided to upload and share. I did not expect this to get as much attention as it has but I appreciate all the comments. I have added a download link to the videos description for anyone that wants to check the hack out for themselves!
I used to imagine a secret path going down the waterfall from vanilla fortress, which never existed, but this is something amazing all together! It’s real??
I used to have dreams about Zelda link to the past, I was finding new areas thru the map And it seemed so real, the bridge u stand up on death mountain when u look down u see a part of the map u can’t get to, that frickin gave me so many dreams too
I SWORE there was a second secret behind Vanilla Dome 1. Those rocks behind it looked oddly suspicious and held a secret that I spent AGES trying to find something with.
I like thay these are normal difficulty and not crazy impossible maps like most mods and edits. This feels exactly like something Nintendo would make back in the 90s. And theres something magical about that.
@@devonm042690I would say the second level would be molten vanilla rather than pure lava. That was a missed opportunity but otherwise it looks very well done overall.
It feels credible because the levels are designed like the rest of the game. Simple, yet challenging in its own right. Most hackers will go full kaizo in mere minutes
I like the idea of ROM hacks that are "extended versions" of the base game. Who hasn't dreamed about, say, adding their own new dungeon to a Zelda game. A new planet in Star Fox's Lylat system. Or even adding their own secret areas to already existing levels. Just so many possibilities...
I know its not real but damn this is so nostalgic with all those like videos that are like "super secret exit" and stuff. Also the map looks super clean
yea it's really lovely this has a cross-generational appeal- older people who grew up imagining such things in smw, younger now old enough to be remembering videos of a similar kind of idea
The levels and even the switch palace feel pretty close to the actual game. The combination of ice and lava is a little silly but I could see them doing that one as a regular cave or an icy cave with regular death pits. The switch palace is slightly less on brand with its use of concrete blocks, but the note block bounce to get the 1up to the end does actually feel like a switch palace puzzle.
I've been wanting to rebuild the entirety of Mega Man 2 from the ground up, but then add whole new areas to the existing levels with new items and weapons and game play features, but they can only be accessed by doing extremely obscure and specific things
@@wijons522, I hate the fact that your parents thought that meeting each other in the first place was a pair of good ideas, let alone the fact that you think that people ought to give you credibility with your complete and utter dumpster fire of a comment because you were so desperate and pathetic to try and get up votes that you literally have given to your comment that you dared to post on here. Finally, if you hate mods so much, and if they were also so horrible, then why is it that, not only is there a whole series of modding communities that are around Mario games, but that even Nintendo themselves essentially gave up and made not one, but TWO, Super Mario Maker video games in response to the modding communities? Why not riddle me THAT one, Batman?
I’m almost inclined to call this the first *real* patch/DLC made for SMW. This is incredible. For once, it’s not just a random added secret or kaizo levels. It’s a real alternate route across the Butter Bridge area. Would be awesome if someone built on this with a World9-type continuation that utilized the purple blocks.
I must have horror brain rot of some kind cause I expected things to go bad after triggering the purple switch lol. The hack looks so well made, good job!
I think not everyone understands the magic and beauty of this, I remember when I was a child seeing several hacks showing secret things in smw, obviously nothing was real but as a child I always imagined things like that, and I realized that you, in addition to recording gameplay playing as an average player, you built the level design of the stages in a VERY similar way to the stages in smw, so this video is VERY convincing and real, congratulations on your work!
Brings back memories of playing Super Mario World in the early 90s before I made it very far and imagining levels like this. One that I actually dreamt about was an alternate Cookie Mountain with levels called Watch Out For Dragons, which were basically all like Chocolate Island 1 with Dino Rhinos and Mini-Rhinos (Dino Torches).
Vanilla peak looks amazing! You did a good job! Kinda strange how the vine just dumps Mario out on top of Ludwigs castle tho. Maybe you could have put a star warp that flies Mario up and then fades back in to him being on castle 4. idk
I remember back in the day when people tried to convince us of these type of "hidden" secrets and that they were in the actual game. Oddly enough, you could only perform the secrets on an emulator and never on an SNES console lol
When I was a kid, I always thought there was a secret exit in the castle right there that I couldn't find because it totally looks like there should be another map area up there. I used to have dreams about it and then wake up and spend hours beating that castle and the surrounding levels over and over trying to find the secret exit that doesn't exist. 😅 Very cool video!
Very well done. I love rom hacks that try to capture the feel of a real Mario game instead of just trying to frustrate the player with shell jumping and all that highly technical stuff.
GG Tob Super Mario World is one of my favorite games 😎🎮🥳🎉👏 and you just earned yourself a new Subscribers and that's me I hope your YT channel gets an explosion of over a billion subscribers!
Is there any read me file for this to help identify other secrets in this game? Is Vanilla Peak the only additional secret? I don't think anyone would be able to figure out that you had to wait a certain bit of time before the end of Vanilla Secret 3 for a P Switch. Or does this version of the game have in-game hints through those hint boxes? - This is really cool though.
When i was in summer camp as a kid i remember someone told me there was a secret hidden black yoshi in the random room with the coin snake in donut ghost house, and it also lead to a secret level where you fight all the koopa kids at once. I honestly believed it
A common mistake is having two feathers or two flowers in a place where both are important you can manually release one of them and the other will go back in the box when you collect it
I was skeptical about this being real, because although Nintendo does like to hide little extra bits in their games, I feel like they would’ve added more places where you’d see purple placeholder boxes.
I should have read the comments before turning on my Switch and trying this! I've been playing this game since it was new and got so excited that there was something I somehow missed when I was a kid. 😂 Nice job on this this btw.
The only thing that convinces me that this isn't vanilla is that stages with multiple exits are always red and stages with only one exit are yellow. But still fun, regardless!
This reminds me of old old old myth on top secret area and its secret exit that leads to that small island and granted you "Super Lazer Suit". Or one that had a secret level with grey spinies that were graphically glitched buzzy beatles. Ah... those were some nice times of "oldschool rumours".
Be careful. My cousin did this on a cartridge that he bought from an old japanese man at a yard sell, and my cousin went missing 😮😮 and when they found his body there was a note in his pocket that said “sper Mario pleas. Need more super Mario.” 😮😮😮😮
i thought this was going to be some kind of creepypasta. now i think this would be a pretty cool creepypasta game concept. it’s the normal game but there are tiny hidden ways to get to new areas which is where the spoopy part is. which i guess is kind of like b3313 this is cool regardless
This reminds me of a dream I had as a kid of a hidden cave in the Valley of Bowser that let you unlock Black and White Yoshi, even before Yoshi's Story was released.
Why don’t Nintendo keep re-releasing SMW to each new console with some new secret levels added? Add like just 20 levels each time is already more than enough. It’ll be an incentive for ppl to keep buying this SMW re-release every time. By the 5th re-release it will have 200 levels. Add secret volcano world, phantom world, mirror world, giant world, nightmare world, and complement it with inverted star world. Oh the possibility!
Hi how come nothing drops down to show the door to open to vanilla peak 1? got all yhe yoshi coins to get the one up but still nothing..did this a lot of times now ehe
I know this isn't real but I wish so bad it was. I love snow levels and this reminds me of the secrets we were told about as kids. I'm showing my age here but before RU-vid was even a thing, there was "Luigi in Super Mario 64". Anyone remember that? There was this ridiculously long list of things you had to do and we all actually tried them. Then we found out it was fake. Another was ways to supposedly unlock Sonic & Tails in Super Smash Bros Melee. (Usually getting 20 KOs in Cruel Melee, that was fake too).
