The physics here are REALLY weird. Aiai can't transfer movement energy to the platforms, because those don't move out of anything other than their own volition, but the platforms can transfer energy to him, and make him move. This is why he can go flying during some stages, like Advanced 2, where he uses the energy he gets from falling an albeit small distance, and the brief moment he's touching something that could be considered a ramp for the purposes of physics to leap over all the bumpers. A really good example of this is Advanced 11. Since the energy has to go somewhere, he keeps it, and it sends him in the easiest direction for him to go... upward.
For reference, I said that to promote physics discussion, not to claim the game's bad. It's a niche game, but it has its audience, speedrunners, and the decisions that went into its design were obviously the right ones for appealing to said audience.
If a force is infinite and unstoppable then it can exert as much energy as it wants onto anything it touches, without having to deal with any sort of inertia
I'm sorry, but even though Banana Mania will probably have every single one of these levels, this game will always be the best because of physics. Also this is the perfect reference to get yourself hyped
The hitbox for the goal tape is a lot larger than it seems, so you can just breeze past it and it will still count, this is also how Glitch Goals occur, you just barely hit the goal tape without breaking it and it counts.
I'd still like to see someone finish that the way it's intended, because I did the same thing on all my playthroughs, and I've still no idea how it's meant to be done.
@@Torthrodhel I believe there's a combination or two of switches that can be pressed to open the goal. When I was a kid I had it pretty well memorized but it's got a bad level design.
@@hist150project5 Just increase the sensitivty in your settings. Then it will play a lot better. I like the inclusion of the different modes, unlockables and achievements. Party Games and the cutscenes could've used work, though...and where's the Credits mini game?
@@lightningmanectric3096 They also removed modes. For example, multiplayer in Challenge Mode has been removed, lives are removed with no option to play with them, and of course party games are butchered. There's also the physics changes but that is subjective.
@@TrentR42 Well this was disappointing to learn... An Investigation of Jcool’s Super Monkey Ball IL Runs - docs.google.com/document/d/1yAjYOVGWCgaAJysFLMwaIdqT_3ffUfPbM1-Lqh9ea_Y/edit?pli=1
Because of you and geoff, I now have this game on a PS2 emulator. I managed to learn a few tricks here (Dungeon clip, Tub Skip, etc. but theyre mostly from beginner to advanced because lets face it im not that good at expert even though i DID beat story mode with a score of over a million)
monkey ball 1: 50 stages plus 20 bonus stages for perfect on expert monkey ball 2: 50 stages plus 30 bonus stages for perfect on expert monkey ball deluxe: 210 stages plus 90 bonus stages for perfect on ultimate ...boy, that escalated quickly
I kinda wish more games with challenging levels like Celeste would have a challenge mode put together like this, With a lives system and everything, I always loved the feeling of getting several lives and going through a marathon of levels like this.
First of all, what in the devil's name. HOW DID YOU BET ALL THAT? Just looking at it, I was holding my breathe, thinking you were going to fall, then turn out, you made it!
omg. I can understand a platformer speedrun, or one for just about any other game, but Super Monkey Ball requires skill in every single stage. This is insane. Also, how did you get rid of the load times? I couldn't stand playing the PS2 version because it kept loading between levels.
I really want deluxe :( I like how some stages are in new worlds now like downhill hard is in the night club u shud be able in practice mode to make it any background u want
Discounting the repeated usage of Blur Bridge (3 times), Hard Hitter (2 times) and AV Logo (3 times), there are still 304 unique stages in the game (294 stages in Ultimate and the 10 SMB2 World 10 stages)
You know what THIS is a genuine speedrun that I can enjoy, not all that tas Bullshit Amazing job I could probably never do this so seeing someone do it is amazing.
It's not cheated, it's completely separate from RTAs (a.k.a. the runs I do.) RTAs aim to achieve a personal best by a human player in real time on a real console. TAS aims to achieve the absolute fastest possible times using special tools like slowdown and savestates. Although both RTAs and TASes can go hand in hand they are tracked completely separately.
***** U ARE THE BEST oh and camron its not that he is cheating its ur jealous that he is probably better then u and ur bad at this but Jcool u are a master keep up the good work and impress me :)
What is this less enjoyable part you speak of? The only less enjoyable part I see is the lag at the beginning of the stage, which doesn't make it any less fun.
0:22 That level is easier than easy. I mean come on, falling there is so impossible that it makes this stage so boring. No wonder it's absent in Story Mode.
As I lose all of my lives and continues to "EXAM-C," I think about all those levels that the developers thought it should be put before, like "SWING BAR LONG." I guess it's better than playing through all of the other levels in Expert only to be stopped there, but still... why?
Stamina Master is actually in a place that makes sense for its difficulty. (Not that I have reached Stamina Master before, but it at least looks that way to me.) I also feel like I should mention, I finally got past Exam-C since posting that comment, and that attempt got up to Level 76, including all continues. The only other level that annoyed me almost as much was Level 8, so instead of being a difficulty curve, it's more of a difficulty... uh... Rorschach test... or something... yeah.
+Mitjitsu the last levels are from the gamecube version(they are easyer for example the level stairs is easy but hard if you havent played the other games)
Oh... SO YOU CAN JUST PRESS A BUTTON AND CLIP RIGHT THROUGH THE GOAL ON SWITCH INFERNO WHILE I STRUGGLED FOR 2 HOURS JUST TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT BUTTON?!!?! I need to have a word with switch inferno...
