Some fun facts about some of the fighters from the game booklet: Gabby Jay was trained by Glass Joe and his one KO victory was against Glass Joe. Masked Muscle was a Pro Wrestler, but was banned due to his "Eye Spit" move ending too many careers. Aran Ryan became a boxer to help defend himself from bullies who made fun of him for his bizarre spelling of the name Aaron.
Nice one. I personally prefer the fighting mechanics of this one over the NES game, but I still love both. I also liked it that they brought back characters from both the NES and SNES versions to Wii's Punch-Out. =D
Hehheh. Mr. Sandman and Bald Bull are in the primes of their careers on this game. I hope they didn't lose a bunch of fights to theses cheaters that are in this game who use canes, elbows, kicks, juggling balls, etc!
nah super machoman was the champion for the major circuit in both punch out and super punch out ,but sandman must have beaten him eventually on the wii sandman is the champ.
Fastest way to hit Narcis Prince in the face is to throw two consecutive jabs when he does his first two jabs, after the two body punches that he opens the fight with. The first will be blocked but the second will land. You can usually get that first face shot in around 7 seconds.
This game is a classic. The fastest I've been able to beat Gabby Jay is 7 seconds. I remember pissing off a buddy to no end because he could never do it.
Glad to see you liked the game, Aqualing. It's a solid title, but nowhere near as memorable as the NES game, obviously. But it deserves some love regardless. I'm surprised you didn't mention Aran Ryan's hardcore redeisgn in the Wii remake, going from an unremarkable Irish bloke to a COMPLETE MADMAN.
The first game that literally cheats not by being hard but by breaking the rules of the game, such as the guy with the cane, or the guy that kicks, or the guy that spits in your eye, doesn't doing those things call for immediate disqualification.
I gotta say when it comes to the Special Circuit, I think Rick Bruiser was more difficult than Nick Bruiser. Nick Bruiser was, as stated in this video, very robotic and I think that made him slightly more predictable than Rick. Rick Bruiser, on the other hand, was very erratic and harder to peg his moves
just a note with narcist prince when he isn't in his pissy mood and tries to punch your face you can quickly counter punch him in the face pissing him off and then you can go to town this helps to take him down faster
The only thing missing from this review is showing off the fighters dazed animation and a few knockout animations, Bob Charlie and Nick Bruiser are the two I can think of.
His voice is very monotone and he speaks very bluntly, and he doesn't really use humor and profanity to get his points across like some certain RU-vid video game reviewers out there (I'm not saying any names). Honestly, he seems like a realist of a dude, and I would love to go grab some pizza or burgers with him.
Here's how I put the fighters for this game Minor Circuit #3: Gabby Jay #2: Piston Hurricane #1: Bald Bull Champion: Dragon Chan Major Circuit #3: Bob Charlie #2: Bear Hugger #1: Narcis Prince Champion: Masked Muscle World Circuit #3: Aran Ryan #2: Heike Kagero #1: Super Macho Man Champion: Mr. Sandman Special Circuit #3: Mad Clown #2: Hoy Quarlow #1: Nick Bruiser Champion: Rick Bruiser
Another brilliant video review, AQ! I really enjoyed this game although it is nowhere near as good as the original. I did not think the protagonist was supposed to be Little Mac, though. He looks nothing like him while the villains look the same!
I always thought Rick and Nick were awesome final bosses. Every other character in the game was silly or had some gimmicky theme to them. When you see and fight these guys, you know you're in for a fight.
The whole point of Punch Out is silly, gimmicky, cartoon stereotypes. Offensive ones, if we're lucky! That's what this series is. It's certainly no real boxing simulation. Rick and Nick are boring and uninspired pallette swaps... Hence, they do not belong in this sort of game.
@@tiger8952: I can see that as well, although, similarly to my old opinion on Little Mac, I can also envision Narcis Prince being in _Dragon Ball Z_ towards the end of the series.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Glass Joe and Nick Bruiser? Because I know Rick's only loss was against his brother Nick, and I thought I read somewhere that Gabby Jay's only win was against Glass Joe.
Hey aqualung big fan and I love your work. I know your a classic kinda guy but will you be doing the wii punch out as a grand finale to your punch out reviews.
haha and that cane is the worst, at least the spitting is sneaky and the kicking doesn't require any special equipment, but when that guy brings his frickin giant wooden hand weapon into the boxing ring somebody should pretty much definitely stop him
while the game offers some challenge, it isn't quite as difficult as the original Nintendo version. Although not being quite as tough as Mike Tyson’s Punch Out may be a positive for some., I consider this game to be among the greatest wacky boxing games ever, with Ready 2 Rumble slightly edging it out
am i the only one that, when i was younger, lost to glass joe/gabby jay just once to see if it would change their record? and also, i remember one of them commented that this was their last fight before retirement, so i wanted to see what they would say when they got their 2nd victory. maybe the 1 that glass joe beat in the past was the punching bag? i can't imagine him actually beating anyone.
I never got to play this one much growing up, but I've been giving it a go on my mini SNES Classic. I like it a lot actually, but the difficulty spike is pretty high during the Special Circuit. Hoy Karlow and his damn cane are freaking impossible! So irradiac and awkward. Hard to dodge, harder to hit. He kicks my ass all over the ring every time. Stop telling me I'm wet behind the ears, you old cheater!
super punch out goes back to the arcade era ,they forgot about it apart for the difficulty in the original, I think both punch out and super punch out are great games but they are completely different.
"I like your style." I'm talking about how you videos a mostly very informative. If I had the know how to make videos I would breakdown old games so people know what is going on even if it is obvious, example would be a picture a the mushroom in Mario an what it does. blah, blah Good videos man.
i used to destroy the shit out of rick bruiser. always pre-punching him before he threw his punches. he never got one shot in. it was actually pretty funny.
Lol I can knock him down in 9 seconds :p Not always but when I do it right, it works. Not KO, but just knock him down once... when that happens i can TKO him quick
Oh, good. I can do flawlessly and take everyone out very quickly 'til the chinese guy with the staff. I could never tell what he was doing and in what direction, so I couldn't even beat him. He feels like 100% randomness to me... maybe this'll help a bit.
When you get hit by the elbow punches from the last two fighters in the hidden special circuit how do you know when your hands are useless and when it wears off?
Maybe it just goes without saying. Aran Ryan is like, so awesome it's scary in Punch Out Wii. I can't help liking the guy, heh. Punch Out games need more amusing fellas like that.
I thought this game was great except that the Bruiser Bros. are the lamest opponents possible. Considering the fun, cartoony characters we were facing throughout the entire game, to end it with those uninteresting two bozos was pathetic and disappointing. But thanks for the trip down memory lane...
The main character of super punch out was meant to look awesome and nintendo felt like.. not enough ugly main characters in games... so they made little mac.... ugly mac....
