Watched this yesterday and after a 90 minute walk this morning opened a packet I bought a month ago but hadn't worked out how to use. Made some in a tin camping cup, probably got everything slightly wrong, but wow, two quick cups and I felt the tiredness go, and happy. Now I am sitting planning out where I can quickly get all I need to carry some with me every day. And going to buy a couple more bombillas up the road so I can share it too. This is great stuff, one cup magic.
My step mother is Brazilian and she brought me home my own set up and I LOVE YERBA MATE. I am on day 3 and I already feel so much better. I hope to branch out and try new herbs.
It tasts a lot fuller and stronger in flavour when simmered 2 or 3 minutes. Don’t over simmer though as it gets easily bitter. I like it a bit bitter sometimes
Hey there Dave! I've been watching your videos and It's good to see more people around the world embracing the healthy mate habit and also promoting it. I usually drink canarias but a few months ago I came across Barão de Cotegipe Tipo Uruguay (A brazilian brand supposedly made for the uruguayan market, to me it tastes much lighter than canarias but still very good and has a good cost/benefit here in Brazil. Maybe you could do a review on Barão tipo Uruguay. Thanks!
How much do you drink or should you drink in one sitting, should you or can you drink the whole thing by yourself, how long can you take to finish it, can you take long or does need to be finished immediately, how does the sharing with your friends work? Can someone answer
I’m intrigued and about to me alllllll about the Mate life ! I’ve enjoyed it traditionally via tea bags and read the benefits on the box , but clearly from your videos ITS SO MUCH MORE than that ; and I’m going to buy the loose leaf kind and the whole setup ya got .
thanks, so much. how many slurps can you get out of one heap (3/4 filled gourd) - ie. how many times can you drink up, rotate, use the bombilla to carve out a new water hole, slurp again, rotate, etc... ??
Hey I might be late with this reply, but it really depends on the type/brand of mate you drink. Some have a longer cycle length (i.e. Cruz De Malta), and others have shorter (Pajarito). It's worth reading up on the mate you drink to figure out how much you can get out of it. I believe Dave also made a video about cycle lengths, do check that out, too!
ArdiPBd Mate We have many bombillas at circleofdrink.com. Read our latest bombilla guide in our topics sections to make sure you’re pairing the correct bombilla with the particular Yerba cut. It’s always better to purchase the highest quality bombillas. Salud!
Starting drinking mate yesterday, love the taste. Since I also drink coffee, I felt restless and a slight panic attack. Will this feeling reduce, or should I stop drinking coffee when I drink mate? Love coffee though.
In my experience, coffee and maté are too distinct from one another to combine them. You must choose coffee or yerba maté. I wouldn't even consume them both in the same day. Spend a couple of weeks drinking maté only.
@@imalamboman12 great point. I also would not mix both coffee and mate on the same day, pick one or the other. It’s too much caffeine and isn’t healthy anymore if you do both.

you should know that one of the most countries that consumes mate, is syria... since its the biggest importer country of yerba mate, or at least what wiki says ;)
I am new and novice yerba mate drinker (matero). transitioning from Coffee. Thanks. I use tea infuser/strainer in a cup to steep yerba mate, is it good way ?
I have seen studies on yerba mate saying that it causes cancer of the mouth, esophagus, or lungs even. What are your thoughts about this? It says it might be linked to the temperature of brewing. Any recommendations? I just bought some and enjoyed the taste. I would like to keep drinking it.
Stefanie Croson Glad you found mate. Well, there aren’t any studies conclusively linking mate to cancer. Those studies you may be referring to were of already-sick people drinking very hot mate. It’s more of a heat rather than medium (material) issue, as with drinking any hot liquid increases susceptibility of esophagitis (from thermal damage to the throat). Please read our article circleofdrink.com for the most recent studies on this issue.
It is false, if that were the case, the cases of cancer of the mouth and esophagus in Argentina would be very high and it is not so, this type of cancer associated with the consumption of mate is very rare. I am Argentine, I write from Buenos Aires.
Can I use a regular travel mug as a gourd for yerba mate? For example I wake up in the morning, prepare yerba in travel mug, do couple of cycles, then close the mug with its lid and take it with me to work, where I open the lid and continue to drink. Traditional gourds and calabash seems not very suited for transportation once they are filled with yerba
Circle of Drink Would you say a wrap that doesn't move is better for preventing cracks or does it not make much of a difference? Thanks for the reply and the great content.
Diurán Ó Catháin Nope, that wouldn’t prevent cracking. Having superior wood that can handle heat and water would prevent cracking. Thanks for your comments.
you throw yerba when is "washed" ( lavada in spanish). washed yerba is when you pour a mate and the leaves sunk and the stems float. is like a tea bag used too much. normaly yerba may endure 10 to 12 rounds or "cebadas" before washing it. then you throw all the yerba, leaving nothing in the mate and do it all again... if you drink alone you can be hours with out washin the yerba
Saludos from Greece! I tried mate recently which I bought from a local teashop here and I really loved it but, I found out some things about cancer and mate which kept me away from drinking. What's your point Dave and guys? Every time I search about it I get more confused....
Bc of the hot water which produce cancer in the mouth of the stomach. Soup, tea, coffe... can cause you cancer as well. (life also can cause you cancer)
Do you have one that you recommend that's higher in caffeine for days I need some energy? I saw you recommended one with a lower caffeine and I like that for day to day but would also like one for days I haven't gotten enough sleep.
In a lot of vids there is one rule which shouldn't be broken which is: Do not touch your bombilla once you put it inside. I'm lost now as I saw the similar number of vids where the straw is actually moved inside:/
Great video really made my first traditional Maté a success! Your totally right the mental clarity is fantastic, along with the taste! Thanks for helping make my experience awesome sharing nuances and suggestions. 🙂🧉⚡️👍
Jorge Cano From my experience for dealing with 1000s of gourds, I no longer deem "curing" necessary. The gourds will naturally cure on their own through regular use.
