Super Sharp, Super Cheap, Super Swirly!

The TT Artisan 56mm f1.8 is a super sharp, medium long lens for APS-C cameras.
It has great colour and its background blur, while soft like many modern lenses, hides something of a surprise. This lens must have some vintage DNA somewhere in its helicoids because it can produce a distinctly vintage effect when shot wide open.
It's a great portrait lens, a great fun lens and a great everyday walk around lens too.
It's a lovely little optic - check out the video for a very nice medium long autofocus lens that won't break the bank!

TT Artisans have really got their act together with their lenses. They were probably a bit iffy to start with, but have really matured in design and the technical aspects of production.

Been mostly shooting my Minolta XD 11 lately, Kodak Gold and Ilford HP5. But wow do I love my Fuji with the Meike 25mm manual lens and my Fujinon 35 F1:1.4. I'm not great fan of electronic only aperture control, I like a good old fashioned aperture ring, even if it is fly by wire! As usual Nigel a brilliant concise no nonsense video! Pity people aren't hitting the LIKE BUTTON! ...Hint!

I bought their 25mm f/1.8 for my Fuji X-T2 when the lens first came out. $69 special, brand new. Crazy. It is a Sonnar design. Fun little lens, very small and light weight and has that vintage vibe to it. Only complaint is the focus breathing but for $69 I will take it.

If it covered full frame I would buy one today and I would never use a hood with it. That flare is great!

Mine came with a hood. Rectangular shaped.that lenshood is not clipped on, it’s a bayonet style mount.

as far as i remember, it covers more than the size of a crop sensor, so on a full frame with a bit cropping in deliver larger photos than with crop sensor

Just try Viltrox 75mm 1.2 😉. Surprisingly sharp at 1.2 and even produces a swirly bokeh too.

I must just be too old to understand, but all this desire for a lens that "blurred" the image is, to me, INCOMPREHENSIBLE! Since I began using simple "Box" cameras about 60+ years ago, the entire thrust of both my training and experience has been to seek (with the 35mm format) the SHARPEST IMAGE POSSIBLE. And only "Blurring" selected bits of the photograph when you wished the "Viewer" to concentrate their attention on a very specific portion of the picture. So, my demands on the lens must be at total "Odds" with todays "Digital Imaging" crowd !

I'm sure there's a happy hunting ground we all agree on depending on the image.

Don't you ever find occasions when it's helpful to blur the background, like a portrait for example? I'm not sure that's a new digital imaging crowd technique! Thanks for looking in.

In my day I used a Daguerreotype plate to create the most BLURRY IMAGES POSSIBLE of my penny farthing. I was totally at ODDS with the fancypants box camera crowd.

I only care about a sharp image, but have to put up with the rest of the image being blurred... My eyes have a 100% sharp image from close up to infinity... Thats what I would like

I think the Nikon Z 1.8 would still blow this one out of the water , maybe worth comparing once you get a chance to have both in hand :)

that lens is the opposite of buying a old 50mm lens. It is unlogical to promote this cheap lenses instead. But people must earn money...

All this amounts to just learning. You're not being effective at achieving stuff. These aren't hand made single objects. These ARE mass produced items designed to be a part of a grouping of products. You're working towards your set of the main part of your life. You haven't worked out the brand philosophy. You haven't thought if it's similar or suitable for you. A collection of random cameras and random lenses is a collection failure.

I've always taken an eclectic approach to camera collecting, rather than concentrate on a single brand. And aren't almost all manufactured objects mass produced, rather than hand made? Thanks for looking in.
