Oh man the first brand new custom built pc we got when i was a kid was in that exact case with an AMD Duron 750mhz processor, in 1999 or 2000 i think, that's really cool thanks for the nostalgia
I think I have a single Socket 7 board somewhere in my collection with a 233MHz K6. Strange for the reason that it came with a Dallas real time clock, that I wouldn't expect to see on anything pass a 486. Has a COAST cache slot. I wouldn't be surprised if it expanded to 2MB. I never tested it. AT keyboard port and nothing else on the back also - a rarity. I have a stack of retro motherboards, bags of RAM and boxes of CPU's but not a single spare power supply or a computer case left. So, retro fun is on pause. The front of your box reminded me of an 8mm tape drive I had on mine for backups. About 2GB per tape, I think. I gave it away, because it only had NT 4.0 drivers and wouldn't register in regular windows. Was convenient to have, because I could use the tapes with my home camcorder interchangibly.
I've always loved the socket 7 and super socket 7 builds. I would bet ive got probably 20 of them, with 8 or so being super socket 7. Oddly, one of my fastest units is using a PC Chips M598LMR board if memory serves. Fast machine but hindered by no agp slot due to onboard graphics.
The Intel i740 was a nice budget video card for the year 1998. As can be seen in this video, this card is capable of running games with acceptable FPS only in 640x480, in 800x600 it is already too slow.
I went with 800x600x16 because that seems to be the default resolution for the era. You're right though, In many games it was too slow but I wouldn't say completely unplayable. I usually try to think back to what 15-year-old me would have found acceptable at the time.
Been a while since ive seen your last video my friend. Im just waiting to obtain furniture for my little studio so I can start my channel. Where do yall keep finding the vintage socket 7 boards? I so badly want one that dosent cost me out the ass on Ebay and my town is too small to find anything that old. My first powerfull and new built machine I owned and built myself was an AMD-K6/2 266MHz I overclocked to 333MHz and yes it was also one of the rarer baby AT boards.
I rarely use places like eBay for hardware these days but I will time to time for specific items. I remember I used to have a pile of socket 7 boards not long ago. It was to the point I had so many I was finding them to be kind of boring. I sort of wish I kept more of them. It helps to live next to a major city where you can still find vintage hardware time to time at yard sales, goodwill, craigslist, FB marketplace etc. It's getting rarer even around large cities but it still happens. building up a network of local fellow collectors over the years also helps as you can trade and buy off one another.
Whow, what a nice mainboard. What puzzles me though is why you did not rund the cpu at 3.5x100 instead of the 95 you picked. It will run fine on this and gives you quite a performance boost. Now your entire system (PCI AGP Memory etc is underclocked)
@@aebtdom I just wanted to run things at the specified stock speeds. 100mhz FSB would of overclocked the CPU to 350MHZ which im sure it could handle but like I said, didn't want to run things outside of specifications for this build. Bayberry if I revisit it I'll put in a faster K6-III and OC that.
If your just interested in gameplay this probably isn't the channel for you as that's not my format. I go over the build and all its parts including the case so there's always going to be a lot of that.
@@tonybarden8563 I do repeat myself a lot, that's fair but the nature of the type of video is going to necessitate a lot of talking. anyone can always skip ahead.
@@carlbyronthompson I appriciate the like and I'm always open to listening to creative criticism. As for the length, I think its a matter of personnel taste. I've had comments from people telling me they enjoy the longer videos and I myself prefer to watch a longer video as well. I get a sandwich and a drink and cozy in for an hour watch. On the flip side There people that prefer short, more consice content. I just happen to create the longer format. As for a script, Ive considered that a few times but In the end writting a script feels like work and the last think I want to do is turn a fun hobby into work. Having 500k subs would be cool and all but I'm not really planning on ever doing this as a full time gig, I actually like my day job.
thats the case my first pc came in....... a amd 1600xp 256mb of ram and a nvidia 4200ti... EDIT !!! that the front, they must of reused that front later in an ATX design
Are there any markings on the case of a brand etc so I can try to buy one? I've been trying to get this case for a while but never managed to find the vendor of it - I want to recreate my first PC! An early Socket A Athlon system from the Early 2000s
I do have several Tandy videos so I'm familiar with a few models such as the 1000SX. As for the Dragon 64, I know of it but unfortunately, I never acquired one when they were still available for a decent price boxed. Id still love to get a hold of one but I'm guessing they are harder to come by these days. I'm unsure on Grand Prix, is that a PC game or an Accelerator?
17:30 The CPUs like that one CAN be used on a laptop or on a Desktop. I had a dead Compaq laptop which had an AMD K6-2 at 550 MHz... which I don't know if it works. I can't find a cheap motherboard with cheap shipping..... all very expensive.
@@charonunderground8596 Agreed though I already have a few videos on my k6-III+ / Voodoo 3 3000 build so I really wanted to try somthing diffrent for this one.
I had no other decent synthetic benchmarking utilities to run and Final Reality wouldn't detect the card. I thought they ran much better than expected to be honest. Sometimes it's interesting to see how a computer performs with a program that maybe it's not optimal for.
