Pretty easy and common. Front tow truck is the drive. Rear tow truck lifting the rear end which is destroyed. The rear tow truck is in neutral letting the front tow truck pull and guide.
Been there done it but with my F650. She's not as big as those big booty Judy's but she definitely gets the Jobe done. There are many many times she has went WAY OVER her limits. But in order to clear the roadways and to keep traffic flowing with ease. We tow truck(operaters) do what we have to to get the job done. That's the difference between an operator and a driver.
Just so dudes can slow down and mess with their phones to film it and gawk 🙄 haha Hopefully the road was empty at the time and he wasn't holding anyone up behind him
@@charlesgrover4065once off into a pull off or exit 100% whats gunna happen. Faster to double hook and roll off for main highways to reopen and faaar safer.
At the time I was the only heavy duty rotator operator. Plus I was a tow truck and a fuel truck operator in the military also. And I've seen too many dead bodies in the military and in the towing industry than I can count.
@@TeamDoc312 don't you think we figured that out a long time ago! The point is, not necessarily! If the accident is bad enough yes. There's not much holding the axles on the trailers, if a 4 wheeler sways into a trailer, it could twist the axle & require two tow trucks, or a lowboy to take the trailer & a tow truck for the tractor!
Heavy Rescue 401 & Highway Thru Hell show this maneuver all the time. They do what needs to be done to open the road as soon as they can. They'll take this to a safe spot, drop the trailer, tow the tractor back to their lot, and then have a flatbed come for the trailer or bring another tandem axle to replace the axle assembly on the trailer.
This is called the buttcheek it's copyrighted in 7 countries. Only 2 people could do it... first time done was back in summer of 72. Thank you for your service 🙏
You know that's when the DOT says get it off the Hwy Right the heck now. I don't care how you do it. Real Toe Truck Driver's. Much Respect to there Jobs. 🎉🎉🎉
Put it in neutral and let the towing vehicle pull you backwards, all the rear driver needs to do is keep the wheel straight as possible and in line with the wrecker doing the pulling.
What’s amazing is how there’s no visible flame/smoke damage. For that to happen w/o it all going up in flames is amazing. Hopefully no one dies/died. Quick recovery to those involved.
Good communication skills and clears up the road faster, I've seen cops tell em to drag a semi on its side out of travel lanes and flip it down the road
Yes. Only thing rear truck is doing is watching mirror and keeping in line with lead truck and will steer when they pull over. Been there done that with a shipping container between to wreckers. It looks way more difficult than it is.
WOW 😮 THAT'S Amazing. Good job keeping the back wrecker between the lines. Great job to both wrecker drivers. You nailed it. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I hope the driver of the semi is ok. Thank you for your service. All truck, wreckers included are the heart of America. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@dieselkenny4568 I have some pictures on my phone but I have no idea how to upload. Pretty cool trucks. I think the main rig actually has electronic controllers
The nice thing about dry vans is we can lift the trailer off the tandem assembly, disconnect the lines and slide another tandem under there in less ten minutes.
If the rails are not bent or wiped out nice recovery getting the road clear that’s what I liked running a wrecker was every job was different much respect to all the operators out there be safe
Tandem dollies are great, but cost prohibitive (and logistically prohibitive) to a lot of 'mom & pop' companies. $23k buys you the dolly... now you need a truck and trailer to haul it to scenes, to retrieve it from destinations... and the devices are wider than 102" so some/most DOT's may not approve of their use without special permits. Now, one would think any DOT would 'turn a blind eye' considering the circumstances. Some do, some dont. It's a tall ask for something to be used on occasion. The method in the video- quick and easy for those of us who do it on a regular basis- get it off the highway fast, then split them onto trailers somewhere safer.
@michaelwaskin6407 sometimes a company can use the remains of a leaf suspension tandem trailer with a frame, install a fifth wheel, beef up the frame and weld a drawbar. The same tow truck can tow it out, , the wheel lift can shove it under the trailer fifth wheel pin,add cross chains with bnders, switch the mud flaps rear to front on the two axle dolly and plug both air lines. The damaged trailer can then be towed to a safe location to off load. The same tow truck tows the two axle dolly back, Sometines an extra 2 axle dolly helps around the tow yard , you just leave rhe dolly attached and trailer backed in until it leaves the yard, easy to move around
@@edwardmullins6735wreckers tow vehicles backwards all the time. Just gotta lock the steering wheel and tie it off with the seatbelt belt for extra safety. It's been common practice for decades.
@916619jg right but either way he's gotta steer or else it would a lot harder on the equipment than necessary. If they have the option to steer the rear around they will. That's why on them super hauls the rear of the set is a steering set.
LOL BIG SHOUT OUT TO HEAVY BIG RIG OPERATORS,,Y'ALL THIS AIN'T NO JOKE THE HOURS THEY PUT IN AND THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TOWING STRAGEDIES THEY HAVE TO DO TO GET IT DONE IS SO RIDICULOUS THAT YOU WOULD BE SHOCKED AT HOW SOME THINGS ARE DONE,,ABOVE ALL,,THEY GET R DONE!! MY DAD DID IT ,,I DID IT,,MY SONS DID IT!! I'VE SEEN SOME PRETTY HARRY TOWS!!😂😂😊 ❤👍
We need to build a tow truck with a wheel lift in the front it wouldn't be as ez as it sounds you have to add another axle heavier springs steering but it would be super nice to get stuff out of tight spots and stuff off the highway without using a crane and trailer
Extremely good work there and I am impressed with this one. At my age you don't impress easy anymore and this is impressive. Hard to get going and track straight in reverse. Guy in back is probably just being drained and being pulled by the one in front while just holding it straight as he is being pulled along also. Good morning and great day to you all.
Most likely not. Their priority is to clear the highway. When they get somewhere safe, they'll unhook the tractor from the trailer and tow them separately. That trailer is probably gonna have the axles knocked off and put on a stepdeck.
Everyone thanks the truckers only. Its the wreckers who really make it happen. Getting it done and opening it up, so you can get out of traffic and go 100mph and then need one👍
The truck bottomed out and he even tore out the tandems from the trailer,so they had to tow it from both ends or it would've never been possible to move it.
yeah, that's also how they move the derrick for a triple from hole to hole too. seriously though, the guy at the back has to really be on the ball. throw in that extra point of articulation and that makes it even more challenging. I'd say they're doing pretty good, actually.
First three months of towing, they had me doing this with two repo trucks and a little Chevy Bolt that locked up. Had a key issue so we couldn't start it and the rear axle p-brake was electric so we couldn't start and release it. With two tiny pickups and a small car, that was by far the hardest thing I've done Props to the drivers of this mess multiple times the size I had to deal with. That is insane
Their most likely hustlin the customer and saying something like this is the only way it can be done and robbed them for having to use 2 tow trucks... tow truck companies are the biggest dicks... Especially wreckers!
