A hopefully helpful side by side of the differences in ergo's rather than engine/gearing differences that the majority of videos seem to focus on. I hope this will help someone better understand some key differences in these bikes and assist with some window shopping tips if nothing else.

I rode a bike for the first time today! I bought a 94 magna a week ago and spent some time cleaning out the tank and carbs to get it going. Trying to pull it out of my garage and uphill to get to somewhere flat to practice on was scary and I almost went off roading but I had a lot of fun. There was a 1989 Cycle World article written about how plastics/fairings were becoming extremely popular but how expensive they were to replace. At the time, insurance adjusters were noting how mechanically sound sportbikes needed to be totaled out because the cost of buying fairings exceeded the value of the motorcycle. Prophetically, the author noted that if the current trend continued then sportbikes would only bought by affluent enthusiasts. And within half a decade, faired sportbikes would begin their dramatic decline in sales as naked bikes (often just unfaired sportbikes) almost entirely replaced them.

Hello there, kind of new rider here, coming from mtb riding in the forrest, little paths, unfortunately no fully. Got my license in nov´23 and have been riding every weekend since january. living in the twisties (look up 69259 Wilhelmsfeld, Germany). Currently I´m riding a Kawasaki ER-5 Twister but my brother has a 660 RS Factory a royal enfield and a GSX-S1000GT which is the one I´m riding when I´m visiting him. And o boy I feel way more comfy on the Suzuki than on the 660 RS Factory. ...... Very long story I know. The most comfy bike I´ve been on so far was the mt09 (2016) so I probably will get the mt09 ´24, mainly bc it's the ´most bike´ for the least money. Also, all of your videos are very informative and I love the way you explain the Stuff.

I will feel more the front tire and your Sport riding position is better. You can for relaxing sit back. But always try to sit more in front of your seat. @skyoom1
@skyoom1 3 месяца назад
Thank you and really does mean a lot to hear you've sat through all my yappin hahaha. Ergo's I'm sure I'm missing a ton of nuances but for the basics I think I've about hit em. The biggest difference will be in the engine type and power band. Almost* all the ptwins have flat bands where rpm is almost an irrelevant factor to power output. Its why some call them boring, but its why they make such great rider friendly engines. Inline 4's are the most notorious for their powerbands, higher the rpm the more snappy that throttle becomes. So biggest risk is cornering say your z400 you may hit that same turn at 6k rpm 4th gear, then next time 7.5k rpm 3rd gear etc and theres gonna be no real difference in power output. Zx6r you hit that corner at 5k rpm you can have real poor throttle control and make it out np, same corner 3rd gear 8k rpm and you're a hamster hair away from dropping way more horsepower while leaned than you may mean to. Learning how that band works and effects the bikes reactions to everything including how you yourself keep your weight on the bike is really the key points. Don't over think it and don't get trigger happy with the throttle and you'll be golden And unfortunately I've tried a few times to make a video on powerband and power curve but I need a mid size inline 4 to really be able to properly show on video :(

@@skyoom1 Thank you so much for the response! In my friend group I’m always the introverted guy who somehow always manages to outperform my actual skill level in any task (I’ve got many stories at this point). So, I’m confident that any challenges the bike brings my way I will conquer and become great at it. I’d describe myself as humble, cautious, yet reckless at times tho. I’ve been told I ride like a professional (but secretly every-time I mess up that one brake-to-a-stop I feel immeasurably embarrassed) I still consider myself a beginner and probably will for many years tbh, if I cant do it perfectly every time I just think I suck. Yet, with all that being said, I just fear the unknown, especially getting a whole new bike and still trying to keep up my… uhh, standards? What I appear to others, social pressure. So thank you again so much for the response. Now for a story if you are interested about how I have the dumbest luck in the world and haven’t died yet: On my very first week of riding on the streets, I was riding with a friend who has been in bikes much longer than me. We were side-by-side at a red light in the left turn lane. Well, the light was at a pretty steep downhill slope so the bike wants to roll downhill (duh, gravity). Well, when the light turned green I stalled the engine -cries inside- and in a panic, because my friend didn’t see what happened and I was holding up the line of cars behind me, I quickly restarted the engine and gave the z400 way-way too much gas and actually did an accidental wheelie (I still don’t know how to wheelie ;-;) well I rode the wheelie for about 10 ft, dropped the front tire, did a 90 degree left turn, almost hit the guard rail, and continued super embarrased but my friend didn’t see a thing of it. 😂😅 Still my most stupid, embarrassing, dumb-luck moment I’ve had.
