Neutrogena glycolic acid cream- SUPERCHARGED SKIN CARE | with GLYCOLIC ACID
This formulation is an all time favourite - preferred by many dermatologists. This formulation of AHA has not been changed for over a decade. Why change when you are on to a good thing? Glycolic acid can be added to your skin care routine. This acid can supercharge your current actives as it can function as a ‘primer’. See below.
When I am reviewing products, I take into consideration 6 key points, as listed below. I then give the product a ‘Dav Score’ out of 30.
Skin science: Glycolic acid has many decades of science behind its use. Glycolic acid can act as an exfoliant, treating acne, blackheads and open pores. In stronger formulations it can stimulate collagen and elastin, improving wrinkles and fine lines. This AHA can be formulated as a peel, cream, gel, lotion and even a wash. The AHA 10 is formulated with 8 % AHA and 2% citric acid, the AHA 15 consists of 13% Glycolic acid and 2% Citric acid.
Ease of use: Simple to use if you do not have sensitive skin, harder to use if you suffer from dermatitis, eczema, rosacea or other inflammatory skin conditions. As always go low, go slow, and test patch before full application. Be guided by your skin care expert.
Compatibility with other actives: AHA is a super priming agent if handled sensibly. A priming agent such as glycolic acid can be used to allow for deeper penetration of other actives. Vitamin A or retinol is an example.
Subjective feel: Easy to use, well absorbed into the skin. The stinging post application is normal, as this is formulated to an acidic concentration to enhance bioavailability.
Packaging: Simple, clinical and easy to use. Tube is best as there is very little wastage towards the end. Well protected from UV and exposed air which may decrease the stability of active ingredients.
Price: Not the cheapest AHA cream, but Neutrogena has a very long history of producing top quality peels. This formulation is no exception. If used as a priming agent or incorporated into your skin care routine, one tube should last 3-6 months. In the scheme of things, the price is definitely affordable for a top quality product.

I have been using 2 Alpha H products alternately in the morning and tretinoin at night. It’s only been a few days but because I have a thick dermis (according to my physician) I’m glad to hear you mention that this can improve the efficacy of the tretinoin. Thanks Dr. Lim!

Ive been using Glycolic toner from the ordinary every night following with their Niacinamide and Retinol emersion every other night for about 2 month now. First a week or two I had skin purging but after that period my acne skin cleared up dramatically and I hardly see new pimple !! Glycolic acid toner has been the best one so far that worked on my oily acne prone skin! Works way better than when I used AHA/BHA spot treatment/mask/peeling pads.

It's fascinating to see how this NeoStrata product is presented on another continent. I'm from the US and over70 years of age. I've been using NeoStrata's AHA products for decades. The variety of formulations, at correct ph, allowed me to change as my skin changed over the years. They make great products IMO whether you're using them for acne or lines, wrinkles and dry skin.♿👵 Barb

After several beauty you-tubers recommenced it, I started using Alpha Skin Care Essential Renewal Lotion | Anti-Aging Formula | 10% Glycolic Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) ($16.99US) So far so good but I had to stop using it with Vit C, too irritating. I think the AHA works better. Have to watch more of your videos to figure out what products work well together.

Thank you Dr. Lim for this review. I am an Esthetician and would appreciate it if you can also review the NeoStrata Retinol + NAG Complex which apparently contains 2.5% Retinol. I have spoken w/a distributor of NeoStrata and they told me it is not a product specifically for acne, but I’m wondering what your viewpoint is? I am wondering if it were used in conjunction with the NeoStrata “Smooth Surface Daily Peel Pads” (which contain 10% glycolic acid), if such a combination could be effective in treating acne (even hormonal acne)? When it comes into anti aging, Tretinoin is the winner. It was supported by a thousand of clinical studies and until this moment, it's the only substance that get approved by FDA indicated for anti aging/wrinkle. My skin seems to handle it fine but I’m not sure if doing this regularly will cause damage that I may not be seeing now. I use Alpha H GA (it’s a liquid), Alpha H GA Concentrate (it’s a gel like consistency), Drunk Elephant TLC. Sometimes I’ll use the Pixi GA toner, the Krave version plus a few other brands as my GA.

They do a better job of controlling my acne than Differin ever did. I love how they make my skin look. For acid newbies I suggest Alpha Skin Care Intensive Renewel serum with 14% glycolic acid. This product still gave me that acid tingle that I look for. This the 1st AHA product that i used 20years back, given by my doc to treat my acne. It used to be the cheapest and the most effective AHA on the market back then as they are the pioneer in AHA products. Neostrata should improve the formula to more elegant texture to compete with brand like Paulas Choice, Drunk Elephant etc. I combined AHA with other active like tretinoin and niacinamide but the key to reduce the irritation is to use them with product that provide enough hydration to the skin.

I have black African skin that is prone to hormonal acne(I use benzoyl peroxide to keep inflammation at bay), hyper pigmentation, dark scars. I read awesome reviews online and have been using it for 3 years now(twice or thrice a month). I started with the 5% for the first 8 months then proceeded to the 10% formulation which proved to be too harsh as it burns as hell so I mix it with a moisturizer to avoid getting burned! I have loved the results so far but it would be interesting to hear what you have to say about it.

Please review the Glytone Rejuvenating Lotions They come in different strengths and they list the 'free acid' value on the packaging rather than the total concentration of the glycolic acid . I am wondering how come a glycolic acid with a 20% free acid value which is essentially a medical grade peel gets marketed as merely a 'lotion' that's suitable for daily use. (according to the glytone official website)

The Ordinary sells 7% glycolic acid toner. It’s amazing. I also use The Ordinary’s 10% Lactic Acid + HA serum too. They work so well together. Cheap and no irritation. I think due to the pepperberry complex in it. Obviously HA helps with water retention as well. With my retinol oil + serum, eye cream and regenerating cream by Neutrogena, I’m a happy camper. My face isn’t pigmented anymore. Also I rarely get pimples. I also use Vitamin B and C serums by (The Ordinary). So I think I have all my bases covered. If I’m feeling a little dry, I’ll use a HA based cream. My skin is naturally dry. Probably coz I’m 30 in a few weeks.

Thank you for this video! I'm experienced tretinoin user (I use prescription tretinoin 0.1% every night during the past 6 years and can tolerate it very well now). I want to incorporate glycolic acid into my skin care routine. Recently I started to use this glycolic acid 20% cream from Neostrata once a week (I don't apply tretinoin on that day). It tingles a little bit for the few first seconds, but no irritation or redness. Can I use glycolic acid cream together with tretinoin if I can tolerate both well? If so, what should I apply first? I also have another question. I'm planning to do glycolic acid peel 70% and need to stop to use tretinoin 2 weeks before the peel and also between peels (there will be 4 weekly sessions in total). I thought to use bakuchiol during that time. Can I use bakuchiol and glycolic acid cream 20% on alternate nights during this time? thank yuo in advance!

Hi doctor! Could you review ISDIN 15 Gel Glycolic Acid? I have combination skin with blackheads on my nose but the rest of my skin is sensitive. Could you comment on how to use it and with what frequency, especially for sensitive skin? Thanks! Alejandro from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

What do you think about neostrata aha gel 15? It has alcohol. Wouldn’t it be drying? Why would they put alcohol in skincare?

I'm confused. In your description it says Nutragena but in your video you refer to neostrata. I am assuming you mean the neostrata peel

What about salicylic acid? Wouldn't it be beneficial to do both glycolic (aha) and bha?

The Ordinary has a few acids, can you talk about them? For certain, they are more cost effective!
