Lyrics:
It's late in the day,
I'm thinking of you,
Things that you say,
So long, so long from me
It's late in the day,
I'm talking to you,
Hear what I say,
So long, so long from me
All the time I've thought of you,
In an ordinary way,
We'd slip off down the oily way,
And all I really have to say,
Is people pass along the way,
And thoughts of you and me again
I lay on my bed,
Searching my mind,
Lighten my load,
So long, so long from me,
I sleep on the road,
Dream of a sound,
Coming my way,
So long, so long from me
All the time I've thought of you,
In an ordinary way,
We'd slip off down the oily way,
And all I really have to say,
Is people pass along the way,
And thoughts of you and me again
And all the time I've thought of you,
In an ordinary way,
We'd slip off down the oily way,
And all I really have to say,
As people pass along the way,
I close my eyes and turn away,
And all the time I've been with you,
In an ordinary day,
We'd trip off down the oily way,
All I really have to say,
Is people pass along the way,
And thoughts of you and me again.

I binged this album in November 1997. I had just come off the receiving end of severe bullying in school but this song and the In It for the Money album really helped me. Thank you Supergrass.

It's a great album, music can be therapeutic, I think because it takes you out of yourself, or at least takes you somewhere you wouldn't be otherwise. Sorry you were bullied, kids can be very cruel, it's no reflection of the person being bullied :)

People tend to forget about Supergrass when recounting tales of Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Suede and so on. It's a fucking travesty. Supergrass released more consistently good records than most of the other 'Britpop' bands. They were amazing!

Ben Wherlock It’s a good point. I went to see Coldplay in concert in 2005 at Crystal Palace and Supergrass were supporting them. I couldn’t believe my luck, but I remember thinking ‘why the hell are Supergrass supporting Coldplay? It should be the other way around!’ I think I was more excited to see Supergrass than Coldplay!! There were so many good indie bands in the 90’s. I loved all the bands you mentioned, plus: Ocean Colour Scene, Kula Shaker, Cast, Radiohead, The Bluetones, even the Seahorses were quite good! I would even give a nod to The Lightning Seeds, Space and The Supernaturals. Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent guitar bands from the last decade?

Actually a bittersweet love song. As a teen I thought it was an angsty fun/nonsense song, but as an adult I realize the aching emotional lyrics are undercut by a jaunty rhythm "...people pass along the way, thoughts of me and you again"

As an Anglophile, I loved Britpop and even got a chance to meet them backstage following a gig in Atlanta in the late 90's. Gaz and the drummer were assholes, but the bassist was a really nice guy. I later saw Gaz traversing downtown with two groupies on each arm. As I recall, the opening act were The Coral, who never achieved lasting success. It was their first time in America, and they were appropriately starry-eyed. And quite nice and personable. And, they were about my age at the time.

It's late in the day, I'm thinking of you, Things that you say. So long, So long for me, It's late in the day, I'm talking to you Hear what I say, So long, So long for me, All the time I thought of you, In an ordinary way, You slip back down the heart away, All I really have to say Is people pass along the way, Thoughts of you and me again, I lay on my bed, Searching my mind, Writing my love, So long, So long for me, I sleep on the road, Dreaming of a sound, Coming my way, So long, So long for me, All the time I thought of you, In an ordinary way, Check back down the heart away, And all I really have to say Is people pass along the way, Thoughts of you and me again, All the time I thought of you, In an ordinary way, You slip back down the heart away, And all I really have to say Is people pass along the way, I close my eyes and turn away, All the time I think of you, In an ordinary day, Check back down the heart away, And all I really have to say There's people passin' 'long the way, Thoughts of you and me again!

My favourite song by Supergrass. The vocal is great and that guitar solo is beautiful in my opinion. Love the video for it aswell - very stylish. They really have got skill on them pogo sticks! Especially the drummer. :) I agree they're very under-rated. They look cool, they sound cool, so I don't quite understand why. Anyway, long live their music.

Smampop's comment is why I love being able to read a foreign language, especially about a song I love so much.

Such a great song for so many reasons. Gaz’s voice, the guitar playing (esp. at the intro), the lyrics. The lyrics always make me tear a little as it makes me think of a past love. The song also reminds me of my youth. Such a great song! ❤️

This song is the utter business! Superb. When you think this video has been on here for 11 years and hasn't reached 1 million views, shows what an underrated band they are!!

Now analyzing the lyrics and the music clip I understood the essence of this song. both the lyrics and the clip show how you should enjoy it now, before it's late in the day;) as we got older, we had something we missed in the past and we regret it today. as shown in 1:34, which shows man admiring the things that make people happy. surreal!
