You missed an imp detail, lex says if he has powers he'd save the world, superman points out, he's actually had a superpower of superintelligence but never actually used it for benefit of others.
@@remoantonie3243 just say superman brute forces his way he does not have martial arts, he do not think o if I hit here this is going to happen so hit here after that will help. @@remoantonie3243 that one point is what i hate about superman. He does not improve or get better he is already at his max he wants to be. Saving everyone is he whole point.
At the end of the movie, Lex gives the other scientist the ability to make a perfect clone of Superman. They were prepared for people's curiosity about a possible time paradox.
The ship, being close to the sun or 8 minutes away at lightspeed... Lex Luthor (while on Earth) was able to predict and send transmission command codes to have his "drone" to act on his surroundings. Lex Luthor was able to predict the events 8 minutes before the events actually have happened.
>There is a machine that can generate 200 quintillion tons of force. >There is a surface that can withstand having superman wedged between it and a machine generating 200 quintillion tons of force down on it.
I’m sorry, but this whole movie is based on Superman not being able to go too close to the sun, right? Isn’t there a comic where Superman literally sits in the sun for like, a thousand years and turns gold?
Nothing that happens in this story contradicts that. There are characters in the story that think superman is dying from too much radiation, that does not mean its really happening.
@@FurryEskimo Maybe, but a lot of comics end in superman "dying" only for him to be brought back in the next run. Its not really uncommon. It's just fun storytelling
@@thegreaterconundrum Ehh, “fun” is subjective. At this point it feels like they’re beating a dead horse, but for some reason people ask them to keep going, so it’s not really dead. It doesn’t:t interest me anymore..
@@FurryEskimo I think killing superman is boring I agree. But bringing him back is fine, because I like him as a character and still think there is a lot to say with him. Most writers get him wrong, but the ones that do it right end up being some of my favorite philosophically interesting comics.
When I was younger, I was never a big fan of Superman. When I was in my late twenties, I finally read the graphic novel this is based on and was completely blown away by the storytelling. When I watched this movie, I was legitimately brought to tears. This is THE Superman story.
no this makes no sense. he bascailly has to much sun in his body, and instead of getting kryptonite to see if it would dee power him. or even stick him under red lamps so he isnt getting anymore power and is actualyl getting weaker they allow him to stay under the sun like a solar pannel thats getting to much wattage already they just keep adding more to it
Wait... if Superman could communicate with his descendants then tell Lois he couldn't have had children because of their different biology did... ...did Luthor save the world by giving Quinton his research on Superman and Quinton created a way for Lois to give birth to a Superman child?
Did Superman not have that weird ability yet where he could dump all of his power in a single blast at someone or something? That should have gotten rid of the extra energy and allowed him to become normal superman again.
This story was based on the All-Star Superman Comic which released in 2006 and ran till 2008. Even this animated film released in Feb 2011. Superman didn't get his solar flare power until New 52 which was first launched in August 2011. Also All-Star Superman doesn't have direct ties to the main DC continuity or any of it's universes. It was created so writers can write a story about Superman without worrying about past or future consequences to the main DC Story.
Superman's abilities depend on the person writing him. Seigel and Shuster's version couldn't fly. Later writers just gave him a deus ex machina power on top of his standard set in each story to save the day. Modern writers stick to his standard set with a few minor changes here and there. He truly is a blank canvas.
His superflare powers are something that his New52 version discovered in 2014 while this movie comes out in 2011. At the same time, New52 Superman died because he abused that ability, destroying his cells.
I am more impressed with the floor because it was able to withstand the 200 quintilion pounds from the weight but also from the 200 quintilion pounds of force superman used to lift the with too.
@@michaellabonte6390 he actually IS. According to comics and as was demonstrated in this very animated movie, superman's body generated a "bio electric field", a sorta force field a couple mm from his skin. So, technically, he is never touching the ground.
@@Gantali9305 If you research this number, you would find how small it actually is. 200 quintillion is still only 1/30th of the earth's mass. In other words, he would have to lift 30 times this weight to lift a planet the size of the earth.....Which is something he easily does or even exceeds on a regular basis in his ongoing comic book.
People don't realize Superman's greatest threat is not Lex or Braniac or Darkseid ... it is literally himself. When you have great power, you have to keep yourself in check every millisecond of the day otherwise people die or your ego takes over and you become a world-ending enslaver yourself. It is only a matter of time or one bad event before Superman is a Universal threat.
@@tranz2deep Exactly this! In our own world, there are literally flesh-and-blood, 'can be killed at any time' people walking around that have the ego of God (or whatever deity you believe in) ... and other people are actually afraid of them to the point of committing atrocities for them. Imagine having that ego and the power to commit those atrocities in the MILLIONS in the blink of an eye, f'ing terrible.
@random.3665 there is a real world saying "Power corrupts, and Absolute power corrupts absolutely' ... and we have thousands of despots in history who have killed HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people to prove it
@@boogus1670 I've been watching superman the animated series from the 90s, and while in that one they did make superman seem weaker then in his comic book interpretation, they kept his principles and character as you would expect, so a little change sometimes is fine, but not to the degree of someone wanting to break the character down into something unrecognizable
That's EVERY writer. The original Superman couldn't even fly. He could just leap over tall buildings. Silver age Superman was a full on asshole who murdered people. Your point seems like a criticism, but you're wooshing over the actual reality.
Best superman animated movie "Give it back. I saw everything. I saw how to save the world. I could have made everyone see. If it wasn't for you, I could have saved the world." "If it had mattered to you, Luthor, you could have saved the world years ago". "you're right"
superheroes abilities, what's too much for them?, what's normal for them?, how strong they are?, how weak they are?, and even their personality and decision making abilities vary immensely from writer to writer. You'd find more stability in American politics.
@@crayzsmoke I think it's pretty safe to say the scientist (or someone else of trust but he seems the most logical choice) would get the phantom zone projector. He's exactly the type of guy who could figure out a cure.
At the time he didn't know if he would be able to beat his condition. So he gave them a chance. Otherwise they would have died then and there. Plus they can't get old or die there, so it's best case scenario. And yes, eventually someone would fiddle with the gun, and Kal El probably had instructions for that scientist friend of his or someone else.
Batman knows that superman always holds back, unless he’s pushed by cosmic beings like the new gods. By the time superman realizes the threat, batman would have him in too deep. However, if superman decides to kill batman, without restraint, batman would stand no chance. Once superman grabs batman, he pulls him up into the upper atmosphere, or crush his bones with a FTL punch, batman is dead.
No. This is a one shot story in its own continuity. Like the Joker movie. It's unrelated to any other timeline. In this Superman dies, but in the end it alludes to scientists cloning a near exact copy in order to have descendents. Or else him using the machine to speak with his descendents in the movie creates a time paradox.
Basically my fav. Superman story, and I'd like to think that this gave some inspiration to superman 1 mil because he became pure energy and sat in the sun for 15000 yrs
So this nixed the idea of a sun dipped superman saying if he gets to much sun he can't even metabolize it so the whole superman Prime 1 million isn't possible
200 quintillion tons. There is NO material that can stand that amount of stress. The machine itself will fall apart, or if not, then the floor that supes is standing on will crumble and he'll be forced into the ground.
Superman has a form of telekinesis that's based on touch. Essentially, he can transfer and apply his durability and strength to anything that he touches.
@@guyverjay1289actually not to be a geek that is how it works. It's covered in superman lore. That's why stuff won't just collapse under his own weight when he lifts heavy objects.
At some point both companies began wildly over powering their characters. Superman, Wonder Woman, Hulk, She Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Silver Surfer have ridiculous levels of power that not only don't make sense but require really stupid plots in order to provide the characters with a challenge. Supes has come a long way from lifting a car overhead to this. Seriously, at one time the Hulk could lift up to a thousand tons which seems more than enough for Superman as well At one time Scarlet Witch could effect probability slightly and had some magical abilities and Zantana was a powerful but not all-powerful sorceress. And that's enough.
This is a weak version of superman all things considered tbh. But his villains' are just as crazy, it been this way for almost the entire history of superman. He really didnt stay in that "lifting the car above his head stage for very long.
@@tacoshop7722 No but he was in the lifting anf flying with an aircraft carrier, mre powerful than a locomotive. Very powerful but not lifting a trillion tons. Suspend disbelief all you want, that's just silly.
@CaptainLightning1 you don't read Superman comics. Superman has been capable of this during decades. You might be old, but not too much. You also didn't even know Scarlet Witch existed until the MCU Movies, so don't pretend you did.
So this nixed the idea of a sun dipped superman saying if he gets to much sun he can't even metabolize it so the whole superman Prime 1 million isn't possible
So, fun fact, we eventually find out that Superman wasn't actually dying. He was turning into an energy being. An energy being that needs a million years to fix a star.
you know whats funny about stories of the same characters? they're written differently to make different journeys and outcomes for the entertainment of the viewer/reader
But alot of times it is the same stories just told a different way. I swear if I see the Wayans and a uncle die again I am going to complain directly to the writers.
@@loganshaw4527 Meh. It's fundamental to the character. Sure it can be part of a Batman's story without being showed (rather mentioned or present in the character's motivations), but a 50 seconds flashback won't ruin the movie.
I read this Comic Book Years ago,.. one thing that stood out was Superman talking to his descendants in the Future. So I have waited,. for the next book,.. all these years to come out,.. because he couldn't have died,.. because he has descendants? Unless it's just sloppy writing. But then we could say,.. well maybe Lois Lane got Pregnant from her time having Super Powers? Or maybe Superman's Descendants are really,.. Lex Luther's ,.. Descendant's because he Backwards engineered the Super Serum?
@@Gr3nadgr3goryyou have to take to account why writers implement this weakness, because they accidentally created a god. Imagine if superman didn't have weaknesses?

To find out the weight in pounds of 200,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons with the moon gravity on the moon base they were one, we'll follow these steps: 1. Convert tons to kilograms. 2. Calculate the new weight in newtons. 3. Convert newtons to pounds. 1. Convert tons to kilograms: 200,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons = 200,000,000,000,000,000,000 × 1,000 kg/ton = 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg 2. Calculate the new weight in newtons: Weight = mass × acceleration due to gravity Given: Mass = 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg Acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s² (on Earth) New weight would be: Weight = 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg × (9.81 m/s² × 5/6) Weight = 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg × 8.175 m/s² Weight = 1,635,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 N 3. Convert newtons to pounds: 1 newton = 0.224809 pounds Weight in pounds = 1,635,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 N × 0.224809 pounds/newton = 367,087,800,000,000,000,000,000 pounds So, 200,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons would weigh approximately 367,087,800,000,000,000,000,000 pounds in the reduced gravity.
oh wow. isnt..... that not how the ending went? Missed the most important factor or did i imagine that while luther had the super serum he saw what superman sees and realized ALL LIFE is the same made of the of same energies and that everything he did was really just evil. The data Luther gave the blonde guy was supermans DNA broken down and when used could be utlized to make Loise pregnant with his child if she wanted to have it, meaning that he would HAVE a son. Strange mabey i imagined it but if i didnt, thats a really terrible thing to skip......
I read comics in the 70s and 80s and old ones dating back to the beginning of the genre. But with a few exceptions the 90s were just sad and I stopped reading them with an occasional exception. All the retconning was especially annoying.
For all the crimes Lex committed, he had earned a firing squad death yet? He was supposed to be eletrocuted, but somehow after he tried to destroy the world again, he's just thrown in jail again??
