Honestly, I'm quite impressed with Jonathan's character in this episode here. Yes, he is selfless brother who is a bit of a smack talker, but he also shown a hidden maturity here as well. He kinda knows that Jordan playing football is not a good idea & maybe unfair to other player, but this might give Jordan a more stable & happier mindset and also a chance for him to increase his social circle.

Honestly, his Superman is a bit dorky too! Which I absolutely love! I don't see why everyone hates on Jordan. The cw has there cheesy drama and the writers just seem to have put it all in one character. They are teens so drama is a part of being that age and with being a teenager with powers would be even more. Football is also a way that he can feel apart of something and everyone looks up to him. His strength can be debated with if he should play, but smallville had clark playing his senior year with full powers and helping them win it all. The way the writing is is very true on how kid would react in his situation, who wouldn't want to play a sport where you have an advantage. Where do you draw a line on if someone is too strong to play a sport. some players in real life have a huge advantage over others should they not be allowed to play?

No matter how much more natural athletic skills or strength a human has, they are not the same as Jordan’s still Developing strength. Everyone there on the team, even the douchebags on the team, had to train for a lonnnng time build up skill & strength to play and be in the position they’re in. Jordan now dominates the team cause of his strength in power. No one can take him down and he has a ridiculously unfair advantage due to the nature of his recently discovered super powered abilities cause the guy is not solely human like everyone else on the team, his Kryptonian DNA has given him strength that no human his age has. Fact is, if he didn’t have super powers, he wouldn’t be playing football nor would he be anywhere in the position on the football team in a matter of a couple days. EVERYTHING HE DID TO GET THE REPUTATION HE HAS ON THE TEAM WAS A RELIANCE NOT ON YEARS OR EVEN DAYS OF TRAINING, IT WAS ALL RELIANT ON HIS SUPERPOWERS. Take Jonathan for example, he has been training for years to earn his way to the position he’s in yet even though he’s been on smallville team longer he has no nowhere near the level of respect that Jordan now has and Reminder: Jordan is only incredible due to his powers, not actual set of earned football playing skills. I’m not suggesting he stay locked in his room all day, I’m saying football may not be the best path. for a teen boy with an obvious temper problem & can easily get carried away it’s probably not the safest decision to have a super strength / optic blast teenager in a competitive aggressive possibly anger provoking environment....that’s what I’m saying lol. Hell, the first reason he joined was not for the love of the game he later found, it was to friggin use his strength to get back at those bullying him! I obviously still love the show and due to what I see on social media, Jordan is the most debated execution of the series. I generally like him even in spite of the jokes we make, no he’s not my favorite, but I don’t hate the guy & I wouldn’t have the show at this particular moment and would rather wait to judge the character in his entirety after season 1. I think Clark decided that perhaps giving Jordan some self determination and trusting him to be responsible for himself(under reasonable "Super"-vision), might help him break his cycle of depression and feelings of inadequacy. Clark only assumed Jordan was going to lose control in the hallway. We don't know he would have. Also, you forgot that Lois checked in with Johnathan last episode. She acknowledged what he gave up for the move and how hard it must be and what a great brother he is being.

First off, we LOVE this series. Let's make that clear lol. However, some people don’t seem to get where we are coming from when it comes to Jordan in football with the defense being “how is it cheating? It’s not like steroids cause he didn’t take something, he naturally has it.” First off no matter how much more natural athletic skills or strength a human has, they are not the same as Jordan’s still Developing strength. I see where people have their concerns about the way that it’s going. It isn’t the best or fair way they can go about letting him find his niche, but it’s a way none the less. I feel like he is starting to grow because no one would’ve expected him to apologize for what he did ( even if he didn’t know because in real life not a lot of people would apologize for something the didn’t know to be true at the time.) I feel like they could just be trying to lead us on to believe he would be the one to be a villain. The only real question is...can Jordan pass a physical? Or would a doctor visit, out his abilities? If blood and piss tests show he is only human, he is not cheating. (I suspect this will come up later.) Also, Speaking as the smallest player, as a freshman, on my high school football team, strength isn't the only thing that makes you a good player. Also-also, as a troubled kid with anger issues, who got bullied. Me joining football, stopped the bullying (same has with Jordan, a few good hits and I got respect) AND helped me take out some of my pent-up anger in a productive way (while never actually getting angry on the field).
@ReelRejects
@ReelRejects 3 года назад
@@CyGea I absolutely respect your opinion especially coming from a very personal perspective on how football helped you as a kid with anger issues. However, we are talking about you, a real human being verses an angry teenager who most recently almost got provoked in a hallway to laser someone out of his control. And the same can be applied for you in what I meant about whatever position you played or how often you played, you had to earn your way there. No, not everything comes down to strength, BUT, most of what he's doing & being praised for is him relying PRIMARILY On his enhanced kryptonian super strength. And even if he got a physical, and it came back with human dna only, why would that matter? He's CLEARLY also Kryptonian and maybe the physical just doesnt have the science to back that. Again, I respect if you can identify in terms of the anger and how football helped you during a difficult period, that's beautiful actually, however this is NOT at all the same thing. You never had super strength, laser beams, and who knows what else might evolve. My point being, if you have anger issues and football helped you get the anger out, a way to express it, you WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE to provide the same amount of damage that Jordan is capable of if you lost control by letting your anger out on the field. Jordan, if he loses control of that anger, he can send someone to the hospital or worse. He has only just learned about his abilities and I think it would have been wise for him to learn a bit more how to tamper that temper of his before getting involved in the sport. People keep asking "where do you draw the line on strength?" It's when you have a bunch of industrial pipes fall on you and you sustain zero injury. It's when you have no training and are knocking people who have been playing football for years back 10 feet across the field.

My idea... I see John as the son who is basically the spiritual equal to his adopted Grandfather who hes named after. John is naturally wise and good hearted and noble like Johnathan Kent was. While Jordan is a troubled version of Superman. I think reimagining that Father-Son dynamic those characters have as a sibling relationship is a brilliant way to approach Clark's children. One son is basically like getting to watch the man who raised him grow up, while the other son is basically a more difficult reflection of his own childhood and struggles being a freak with powers. And I think its brilliant that while Clark had the best Father one could hope to have in Johnathan Kent, he himself is absolutely no Johnathan Kent and is struggling with realizing parenting isn't one of his gifts, and how far off from being like Pa Kent was devastates Clark and its not something he ever really learns to get better at, unfortunately some parents just don't and I think that's an important story to tell. I also want a twist in the later seasons of the show, like in season 6 or 7 after watching Jordan slowly grow more powerful but more dangerous then eventually full villain, Clark and Lois decide the only way to stop Jordan and jeep him alive is to trick him into a power swapping at the Fortress of Solitude kinda like in Superman 2. BUT, its different. The only way to take Jordans abilities from him is to transfer them, and for that, Johnathan his twin must receive them and swam his DNA with his twin brothers. So essentially Johnathan becomes Superboy, and Jordan now depowered and left bald from the draining of his powers, goes mad over his families betrayal and for picking Johnathan over him, and he takes the name Jordan Luthor. So where the dynamic used to be Young Pa Kent and Dark Clark as brothers, after season 6 or 7 they will be Johnanthan as Young Pa Kent as Superman and Jordan is the New Lex Luthor... but they are brothers. Thats cool. Thats creative as hell. Thats a fresh twist and a great way to shine a spot light on all these relationships and what makes them so special, especially by how they mirror each other.

there is nothing unfair about Jordan playing football, and it's not at all comparable to steroids. because he's *not* using steroids or getting any other outside help. in fact, the fact that he's holding back is unfair *to him.* what would be *fair* is if he used his full powers...that would just also be lethal. the notion that him playing isn't fair because he's stronger would be like saying someone with excellent genes for building muscle shouldn't be allowed to compete in weightlifting championships, or exceptionally tall people shouldn't be allowed to play basketball, or giants shouldn't be wrestlers. he's stronger, faster, and tougher than everyone else, and it's not fair that he doesn't get to show it off and dunk on them constantly

This show is awesome. Just started watching just on episode three and that hotel fight for me was probably the most exciting and authentic superman action since Richard Donner's Superman. Awesome stuff and great reaction :)

That opening of rescue in China was so well done! Thought of Smallville Clark on football team. Was thinking Edge experiment on small town folk. Emmanuel Chriqui is dead ringer for Nina Dobrev.

Jonathan and Martha let Clark play football in Smallville, he was recruited to college schools and didn't quit playing until he found another guy playing with enhanced abilities. This has been done before on CW television 20 years ago.

I DO NOT want the twins to fall out. Or either of them to side against their family in this show...ever. The more interesting and hopeful story is, the family stays together and doesn't turn on each other, no matter what. Everyone's theories about one of the boys becoming Superboy Prime/evil, backs up that it is the unexpected story to tell.

I am amazed how great this show is so far. That scene between Lana and Sara was amazing. In only 3 episodes I find myself caring about all these characters. The writing as well is so much better than the other Arrowverse shows imo. These feel like real people in real situations making real choices.

Not so small nitpick: China is roughly 20.000 km away from the US. Sound travels about 1.200 km/h. So, the sound of that bridge falling 16h 40m to travel, from the moment it started falling until the moment Clark heard it. That's a problem.

What people dont get is that Superman is never using his full power. Which is why that guy was able to with stand and get an upper hand at first.

That part with the cooler is really puts a smile on my face, we have superman pretending to struggle with carrying a cooler and needing help from his son with a fraction of his powers. He might not have a hundredth of his power but superman once pulled the entire planet so even a millionth of his strength still puts him above most heroes in terms of strength.

Totally agree - he should not be allowed to be part of the football team. I think Smallville showed this very well and on top of that this kid is also vastly different in his temperament and self-control. Really bad judgment call by the parents.

I've been thinking about this for many years but it's pretty clear that Superman's hearing doesn't rely on sound waves as we understand them. He hears stuff in real time no matter how far away he is. Sound travels at 760mph so if somebody got shot and Superman was on the other side of town, he wouldn't even hear the sound of the gun firing until it was too late to stop it. But in every iteration of Supes we've ever seen, that's not how it works. And he can hover at the edge of space and listen in on everything even though sound can't travel through a vacuum. So there must be something else at play here.

I just had an idea. Total weird theory but what if Jordan's outbursts of anger are a result of him getting stronger, his human dna being suppressed in favor of his kryptonian dna, just like the Superboy from Young Justice?
