Gunns statement about working with Cavill in the future feels like damage control to me. Cavill's statement feels much more final and somber. The dude was walked all over by WB for the better part of a decade. Wouldnt surprise me if he didnt want to return.

I have half that feeling but I also half believe it is possible, considering it seems they've been working on getting Ben Affleck back involved in directing something and keeping Jason Momoa around even after they wrap up this version of Aquaman. It wouldn't surprise me if there genuinely is an effort to keep talent around in some ways even if they're doing a hard reboot across-the-board

It must be hard for Cavill. When you look at his entire career, he has been the 2nd choice for nearly every significant role he auditioned for, like 007, and now his Superman for the past several years. I honestly hope either Disney or even 007 gives him the franchise status he deserves.

As a lifelong Superman fan, this felt like a bullet to the heart. I don't really believe Cavill will get a different DC role I think Gunn just did some Hollywood speak for "he's out and forget about his version." Without trying to sound like a jerk.

I don’t know. If he really loves DC as fan I think he will do whatever it takes for him to be a part of this universe. I mean I want to see him do something drastically different from Superman and I think he can. If he doesn’t return to the DC universe then oh well if he goes the marvel that’s fine too.

@Littletom52 I just don't think Gunn will actually recast Cavill, and I think there is potential for Cavill to jump over to the MCU. I would find it difficult to see Henry in a DC movie and not think "Why isn't he Superman?"

I’m not talking fans, but you could say the same exact thing for Chris Evans, who was in two fantastic four films that were not great and everyone said why are you hiring this guy who already played Johnny storm. Then he was Captain America, and people saw what he could do and they moved on. I think the same thing could happen with Henry, I also hate that everybody typecast him to be a superman like character. He can be so much more than just a Superman like character. I actually feel like that’s a disservice to his talent, that that’s all people see.

That’s my condition as well. If you are gonna reboot the entire universe then it needs to be the entire universe and not just the projects you happen to work on. Margot, cena, and that cast for me have got to go if I’m gonna get any respect back for him. Wb brought Henry back only for them to basically fire him so that then can reboot. We have had this in universe out of universe stuff for the last few years. Start truly fresh and not tease fans anymore.

If you pay attention to Henry Cavill's performance in The Witcher, you'll realize that he could actually make a pretty great Batman maybe even better than Superman. He checks the list, he's got the voice down, imposing physique, the perfect chin, blue eyes & Raven locks , i say fans should push him & DCU for that role, make it a thing

I see we glossed over the part where the studio screwed Cavill over. While I agree that a clean slate is totally the way to go, you can't deny that by having Cavill make the return announcement, and then a few weeks later, ripping it away, did him f$#@ing dirty. Did I say James and Peter? I said the studio, as in Warner Bros. Zaslav told him to make the announcement, which he did, and then a few weeks later was he was let go and forced to retract it. That's the epitome of doing someone dirty. Zaslav should have kept his mouth shut until Gunn and Safran were actually in place and then none of this would have happened at all.

I remember watching Watchmen and felt bummed out afterwards. No one wins. No hope. Dark, depressing atmosphere. Yet somehow, DC execs thought Snyder was the perfect guy lay the foundation for the DCU. Making the DCU like Zach Snyder's Watchmen was one of the worst decisions a movie studio has ever made.

They had one job, just put Cavill back in the cape and then build around that. You have a perfect Superman for this generation and these times and they just have him sitting on the bench or throw him away. All WB/DC wants to do is waste time rebooting. They (WB/DC) want all the successes of Disney/Marvel without dealing with any of the mistakes/losses (and yes, they’ve had quite a few). But life doesn’t work that way. You don’t get to a “Avengers: Endgame” moment without building a cohesive and consistent universe nor without some trial and error along the way. Just start somewhere DC, damn!

The problem here is that the studio, which us trying its best to recover DC's image, has ruined its reputation again even before they salvaged any of it. Two months ago they had Henry come out on social media and say he is coming back. Everyone was super happy, including Henry. Because the one thing that everyone always agreed on is that Henry is a great Superman. Not the writing of his character, that was awful, but him in the role. And now? You know this thing that you all were so happy about? That thing that made our main star happy? That thing that everyone kept talking about with the level of enthusiasm not seen in the fandom for a long time? That thing that we PROMISED and asked our main star to confirm to the world? Remember? Well. We are not giving it to you now, haha. But please!!!! Please!!!! Please love our new movies!!!! All those movies which are still going to be released yet have no point existing now. And then please love our new movies which will not have all the cast you love. And guess what, we are going to give you a Superman story that you have never seen before! Superman doing his desk job and meeting his love interest.... No, thank you. At this point I have 0 trust in any of it. Did DC need a reboot? Yes. Is this drama and anger from the fans and breach of promise and trust and throwing out a beloved movie star (right after the Witcher basically killed itself by allowing him to go) a good way to start the reboot? Hell no. Oh and by the way, whoever you are, that new Superman, I'm very sorry, mate, I do hope you will be OK, because you've got the worst job imaginable now... It's an abysmal start, and the worst is it's not even surprising anymore.

Check out AngryJoe's reaction. Not only is he a big Superman fan he also makes good points. The one that I forgot is that about a year ago Gunn literally did an interview with EW and, plainly, said that Superman, JL are not fun to write about. Here we are a year later and hes writing a Superman film. Gunn said he has been for a while. Probably once became head of DC studios. I dont know what to make of this. But I do believe the DC universe needs a reboot. Whether that means recast them I wouldve gone either way. Dont matter to me. Its all about making good films. But I do wonder if Gunn writing a Superman film is because 1) he wants to give it a shot, or 2) he has no other choice. I've heard comparisons that it will be Spider-Man-esque-like, taking the MCU route. Or this is just a building block to have an actor for it the next ten years. I have an image of Superman based on the comics. Lets just say its not like Spider-Man. I dont care for Superman. But for the hardcore faithful, like AngryJoe, they do make some good points.

I watched that AngryJoe video. Frankly it’s all in the name, the guy’s angry and he’s lashing out. That’s fine. It does echo fan reaction and it does its job in that respect. That said other than "expressing anger" I personally could barely find a point that made sense in his rant. It’s rambling and it’s fine but that’s all it seemed like to me. As any logical take on this it was frankly retarded for the most part. Idk what Gunn will do with Superman and DC but I’m pretty sure him cleaning house is due to the dumpster fire that the DCEU is right now. He probably decided the only right move is to throw it out the window and start fresh.

@@kylexile87 | Yeah that’s why I said "barely a point" cause there are a few things of note in the Rant. Though that’s basically it. The most noteworthy thing he says from what I recall is that if they keep other DCEU actors/characters around then that would be hypocritical. And the answer to that question is pretty obvious isn’t it? Unless I’m messing up the timeline which is possible, a year ago he wasn’t head of DC Studios so writing a Superman film would’ve been pretty limited for him most likely. It would probably be MoS 2 or some version of the current DCEU Superman whose last canonical appearance was Josh Whedon’s Justice League though that was such a mess execs at WB tried as hard as they could to pretend it didn’t exist. Today as head of DC studios these limitations are obviously gone and moreover he’s coming at it from a completely different angle. I have no idea if he’ll screw it up or not but there’s nothing particularly dumb about it so far. It seems relatively sensible.

I am not so optimistic with Gun running the show. Yeah Suicide Squad 2 was a critical success but was an abject failure at the box office. Don't wanna hear about the excuse of the movie being released during the pandemic because No Time to Die and No Way Home did well during that time period. Coupled with the waning interests in Super Hero movies as a whole, this reboot could very much fall on its face before it can even start.

The #1 problem with the DCEU was that it felt rushed. There is no way we as a viewing audience deserved an "Infinity War" tone so early with BvS. The killing of Superman wasnt the payoff anyone wanted, even if I agree it was a damn good movie. But the DCEU didnt earn it. Superman faced his arch enemy in his first movie!! An enemy who wanted to destroy Earth! And by the 2nd movie, Superman died at the hands of an alien monster?? I hope they learn the mistakes of the past, because an extended universe needs the world building before destroying said world.

I love Robert's point about Batman v Superman being a bummer. I thought the action scenes in it were phenomenal and Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were great. But that movie left me feeling a little depressed because of how it ended. And some aspects of the writing and the portrayal of characters like Lex Luther weren't as good as they could have been either.

Oh, please. Just stop with the "before Gunn and Safran took over.", is if these are Amazon line employees. Gunn and Safran would've had multiple meetings regarding the future of the DCEU prior to signing on the dotted line. Its not like Dwayne Johnson snuck Henry in the backdoor and filmed his cameo. Nobody's stupid - Zaslav's been cutting costs like crazy and decided that the current slate of actors are too expensive to keep around relative to their output of their films. If Black Adam had've cleared a billion than things would be different right now. It sucks that they brought Cavill back just for the mere purpose to hype up Black Adam. Gunn and his quirky style knew that Henry's Superman wasn't right for the project MONTHS ago! WB used Cavill and its absolutely criminal.

The reason people are mad, myself included, is because we JUST saw Cavill dawn the cape again and announce his return (Warner Bros at the time reshared the video, that counts as an announcement from WB too) just to hype us up and a few weeks later, crush our excitement. That’s why we’re disappointed. Had Black Adam never happened and Henry not returned, this wouldn’t have hurt so hard.

I agree with everything Rob says about how Batman V superman is very dark. There is no hope in that movie. That’s what I think really hurt that film. It was just so hopeless kind of depressing even, I do feel like that’s the one thing I think Zack Snyder should’ve done is I had a little bit more hope. I like that movie too a lot, but I can understand that criticism.

Yeah a Reboot is needed, DCEU/Synderverse was a critical and financial failure. Also the behind scenes drama was just annoying, Ezra Miller is a nutcase, Amber Heard/Johnny Depp case was annoying, Ray Fishers beef with WB was also annoying to hear about and WB wanted Henry gone. Hopefully Amazon Prime gives him a better deal than WB and Netflix gave him with Warhammer 40k adaptation.

I’m afraid this is going to kill the audiences faith in getting invested in anything DC releases from here on out. What happens if the Gunn directed Superman releases to 5-600 million at the box office? Will we get another knee jerk reaction from the execs and scrap that universe too? I am having a hard time trusting anything DC puts out enough to really become invested as much as i love the characters. And I’m surprised they didnt talk about how much of a misstep it was to have Cavill announce his return to the role a couple months ago just to have those hopes taken away again.

I no longer care about DC reaching its potential, I'm done with them. I have never asked for much, but the one thing I have always wanted is for them to listen to the fans. The Rollercoaster ride around Henry Caville, culminating with the studio getting behind him as the Man of Steel, only to have the role snatched away from him and us yet again...so now I'm done. Warner Brothers could be working on a Static Shock film and I promise, I would pirate it instead of giving their film a dime.

The thing is, Man of Steel wasn't suppose to begin a shared universe. It was meant to be its own franchise like The Dark Knight trilogy. But WB wanted to compete with Marvel and transformed the sequel to be the start of a Justice League story. So the DCEU wasn't off to a particularly reassuring start and it shambled and fumbled all the way to its conclusion. I personally feel that if Synder knew MoS would start the DCEU, he would've made a film with a tone and style more malleable for a variety of different characters to inhabit - ala the MCU. Instead, we get very dour Superman to face off with an even more dour Batman - giving us IMO one of the worse interpretations of the DCU. So I can't wait to see a DC Universe not colored by Synder's love for Frank Miller's work and is actually fun again. Nevermind that BvS: DoJ puts Gotham and Metropolis right next to each other. That personally killed the DCEU for me.

I’m surprised they didn’t mention what this could signify for Dwayne Johnson. As a big fan of the Black Adam film, I was disappointed it didn’t perform better in theaters. Seeing WB giving Cavill the boot just two months after Dwayne Johnson spent weeks promoting his appearance in Black Adam makes me believe we’ve seen the last of Johnson in the DCU. I’m betting we’ll be seeing a similar statement from Johnson saying he’s had a meeting with WB, and he won’t be back. As a big fan of Johnson and Cavill, this is very sad news. But, I’ll do my best to stay optimistic for whatever we see next in the DCU from Gunn & Saffron.

I hope they'll recast him as Batman. If Momoa seems to be a good fit as Lobo, Cavill can be a good Bruce Wayne. He got the body, the height, and the gentlemen vibe. I think his take on Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes 2 makes a good Bruce Wayne (that Sherlock Holmes is the most non-Holmesian Sherlock Holmes I've seen so far). He's just 39, so he can potentially play that role for 10 years.

MCU's films have underperformed and they don't course correc their entire film slate. DC messed up the moment that they made BvS for the mere purpose of addressing the complaints about Man of Steel. Marvel would've kept it moving and just focused on making a better sequel. But WB panics and brings in The Fixer (Batman) along with the entire JL, Doomsday, Lex Luthor and your grandmother. So, Cavill gets not only sidelined, but killed in what should've been his sequel. Why? Too much studio interference and not enough creative input.

People will disagree with me, but a clean slate is what's best. I love Henry Cavill, but Black Adam showed how messy this universe is. Intergang? All the future tech? What have we missed off screen? None of the actors have a real relationship with each other like the Marvel actors do. There hasn't been a plan. The flashpoint idea with Keaton would have been too confusing for general audiences. I hate what happened to Henry, but this is what is best. Gunn has made great movies and actually loves comics. He's a bigger nerd than most of us. Hes a story teller. Yeah he's got a signature comedic approach, but all of his movies make you feel something. There's always an emotional string being pulled in his character arcs. So I trust his decision even though I don't like it

The problem is DC keeps rebooting their universes so of course there’s no consistency or cohesion. That’s the main problem right there. Marvel/Disney stuck to a plan, even when sometimes it failed, in order to make a cohesive story that all paid off in Endgame. I love DC also, but DC/WB wants only to have the successes but NONE of the failures, and that’s just not possible.

Every time they had a "bad movie" or a movie that didn't live up to their box office expectations, they changed tone and direction, and it would create so many confusing narratives, not to mention completely disconnected tone shifts. It's like every time Marvel had a hit, they wanted to just drop everything and try to emulate that same tone and formula, when you can't do that. It's okay for Marvel to be Marvel and for DC to be DC. I like both universes and comic book companies for different reasons. I don't need them to be exact copies of each other on the pages or on screen.

Not only is the Black Adam mid credit scene with Henry Cavill a meaningless tease, there goes the pointless task of watching the films yet to be released: Aquaman sequel and the Flash. And it's safe to say without Henry then there's no Dwayne Johnson Black Adam sequel that he wanted. And it flopped. I don't know why Henry put on the costume without signing another Superman picture, he was told he got it in October and he was the most sought after actor from Witcher, Superman and James Bond, and now it looks like he has none. WB did him dirty, HC looked like he lied to his fans for months and now he lost the job. He could have gotten to play 007 & had work lined up for at least 10 years. But his luck has changed so suddenly.

I fucking LOVED Henry Cavill's Superman, as well as Ben Affleck's Batman, Jason Momoa's Aquaman, Ezra Miller:a Flash, and especially Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. They all brought something actually unique and awesome to their roles. Now, firing Miller? Essential. Replacing Batfleck and Momoa? Painful, but okay, I guess. But replacing Cavill and Gadot? DUMB AS FUCK. The DCU could reboot entirely with the Flash movie, and the same actors could carry on with the same characters from a different reality. The old one is gone. There's no reason AT ALL not to do that. And if they're truly wanting a fresh start and they don't cancell all three films set for 2023, they're just shooting themselves in the foot. "Look how great these movies are! Look how great these actors are! Give us your money! And then totally forget about all this and instead love a whole new batch of actors in these roles!" You can't drop the baggage of the old DCEU without replacing everyone. There are parts of it I'd love to cherry pick to keep, but at the same time say they kept Cavill as Superman fans would get very confused thinking their Superman is the same Superman from BvS. It's too late to change the Flash movie to establish a rebooted universe. They will release the last few movies that are already too far along to back out of. After they release they will advertise the new universe they want to build. As a DC comics fan I'm super excited to see what these guys do.

And since we don't know what's in The Flash, since reshoots with additions & subtractions seem to happen constantly, I think they could do exactly as I suggest. I would say it’s because they are rebooting the whole DCU not just one show/ character. Daredevil is just one piece of Marvel’s story not the whole story. I would also say John would have been fine with recasting Daredevil. He has never been married to one character playing one character.

Gunn said in an interview that he had been working on a script for a new Superman movie for a while after less than a year ago saying he had no interest in it . The strangest thing about all this is the way WB seems to delight in embarrassing Henry Cavill. First with the whole CGI lips fiasco, and now purposefully telling him to go on social media and announce his big hopeful return as Superman only to publicly can him like a month later. If I were Henry, my Twitter post wouldn't have been so diplomatic, and likely would've had detailed instructions on where they could shove their plans. After watching numerous videos about this, I find it interesting that *John Campea, Robert Meyer Bernette* and *Grace Randolph* (from Beyond The Trailer) all understand films and the film industry and insider information. Yet it is *John Campea* and *Robert Meyer Bernette* who showed sincere compassion and respect and honor for *Henry Cavill's* role as *Superman* and his departure from the role. In my opinion, these are the reasons why I wholeheartedly respect *John* and *Rob* way more than *Grace Randolph.*
