Jimmy Olsen needs to collect Superman's tears in this classic DC Comics outing from the silver age. Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen was full of tales about Man Of Steel's alleged best pal Jimmy, often doing some questionable things. This cover was certainly off the wall, does the story within match the tone? Find out here on Casually Comics!

Collecting tears is the exact kind of stupidly specific hangup that Batman should REALLY be taking bigger notice of, considering "stupidly specific hangup" is how literally all of his villains work
@FantasticDinos

I have a theory that Jimmy really was evil, but never self-identified as a villain, and Superman, bound by social convention, was too polite to call him out on it, so he just had to pretend to be pals with this evil little man so he could keep an eye on him and secretly foil all of Jimmy’s evil plots.

Pretty sure Jimmy DOES have powers and doesn't even realize it..from all his improbable adventures and impossible survival rate (yes..even counting in supes' protection) he clearly has subconscious reality warping abilities. It wasn't the totem that created the first supergirl; that was just a placebo for his own powers. Every fantastical thing that has happened to him has been a result of these powers creating his warped subconcious fantasies as a reality. Maybe Supes was even a result of Jimmy's desire to have a fantastical best friend and thats why Supes considers him such unconditionally despite Jimmy just being the worst. Wouldn't that be a trip? Jimmy Olsen; the prototype Franklin Richards?

I bought one issue of that arc when I was 8. It was the issue where Superman's rocket ends up in the superhot sun to burn his dying body. It was my introduction to the LSH, the Bizarros, and many other DC characters that had a quick appearance in that issue. Being 8, I thought Superman really died because the next bunch of comics I bought were all reprints that had Superman in them. JLA, Superman, Jimmy Olsen, 80-Page Giants. So I thought they had actually killed him and were just reprinting his old adventures! AH! The innocence of a little kid! Took me a couple of decades to find out that the Bizarros actually save him accidentally. Come to think of it, I've never read that whole story arc, just the last two issues of it.

How much does Perry White pay Jimmy that he can afford to travel so much?

Ah, that Pete Costanza artwork! While not as popular as others of the era, it did manage to stand out. And the influence can be seen even now, in items such as the Kingdom Come sequel The Kingdom (Son of the Bat), or in Doomsday Clock. Just goes to show, one days style could be another days inspiration!

The book kinda reminds me of the inscription on Thor's hammer. They didn't even try to make the writing look ancient.

Front cover and teaser page are perfection, wish the silver age zaniness was still used today. One of my recent favourites I've seen is Doom Patrol 94

Honestly it would have been more fun if it was just superman not being able to cry, causing Jimmy to come up with plots to make it happen

He's a reporter at the Daily Planet. _He's a reporter at the Daily Planet!_ How is he a magnet for so much bizarre? Screw JoJo, where's Jimmy's Bizarre Adventure?

Jimmy collecting tears just makes me think of Mason Verger from the HANNIBAL T.V. show and how he made people cry so he could have tears in his martinis.

Guess the book title was Superman’s Pal, as it was easier to fit on the cover than say, Superman’s Sociopathic Therapist. Also, Joker appearances that weren’t Batman comics? Sounds like a featurette to me!
