For whatever reason, I have been thinking about this for quite a while. Matt, it is my belief that if the artist drew a canonically underage character with adult-like features, or say that the characters are aged up for the sake of legal concent then there should be nothing to worry about morally. It's the porn that is drawn with one to one accuracy of canonically underage characters that would be an issue, but that's just my own bias. Cartoon characters do not have an age unless specified somewhere by the creator, and they don't inherently come with an age because they are not human beings. As an artist recreates a character with their own vision in mind, they are basically re-creating the character in whatever way they please. This means that they can say the character in their drawing of that character is above legal age, or not. Ultimately it is usually up to the viewers to decide as most artists are not 100% forward with the intended visual age of their re-created versions of cartoon characters. Some image hosting websites have a tag blocking system so anything identified as appearing underage could be easily blocked from any future search regardless of series. Hopefully, this rambling has made some sense.
