This is my favorite young Dean .. Dylan didn't play Dean, he became Dean..and the resemblance was good too. Kudos to the casting people.😊

Casting hit a home run with Dylan Everett as young Dean. He really wanted the part so he binged the series before auditioning..kid didn't play Dean as much as he became Dean.

Regarding the difference between the teen versions of Dean, After School Special was a Sam POV story and to 14 year old Sam, that's how Dean seemed to him. This episode is a Dean POV story, this is definitely a more realistic portrayal of a 16 year old Dean, and when he gets picked up at the end and we see Sam in the back of the car he looks like a little kid, not the 12 year old he actually was, because that's how Dean saw him.

In After School Special, Brock Kelly was 24 years old, 11 years older than Colin Ford. The brothers are only 4 years apart, so it wasn't accurate casting. In the this ep, Dean was written as a 14 year old, but they later changed it to 16. They didn't change the actor for Sam, and that's why he looked too young.

My favorite theory about the casting for young Sam and Dean: After School Special is from Sam’s perspective, and he sees his older brother as much more mature and cool. This episode is from Dean’s perspective, and at the end we see a much younger innocent baby brother. I really like this younger actor- I think he did a great job!

Great ep. I loved that Sonny was such a good father figure to Dean. Young Dean took one look at little Sam and knew he couldn't stay away. Such a moving moment!

I’m glad that Dean at least had a moment in his teen years where he wasn’t a hunter or brother/caregiver and just a normal kid Also Sonny is the best!

My dad told me when I was 5 or 6 that you learn all you need to know about a man by there handshake. To this day I can hear it and when I shake someone’s hand and they have the wet noodle or no eye contact or overcompensate by squeezing way to hard I die laughing inside. It’s funny the things that stick with you.

@@JerBearReacts Dean wasn't being a kid he was stealing food for Sam because he gambled their food money, and he only did that because they were running low and John hadn't called (as usual) so Dean had to gamble in order to get more money, which judging by how he said it sounds like this was something Dean did often but this time it simply ended bad for him. I am in no way blaming Dean! He was just a teenager it wasn't his job to raise his brother!

What's worse is whenever they try to recall a good memory of John or something he did with the boys that wasn't horrible it just comes across as fake and out of character. Like last season when Sam mentioned that trip to the Grand Canyon, this sounds like a fever dream because it was already established that John didn't take them to a baseball game so I can't see him doing this. Also, and this is a slight but meaningless spoiler, later in the season Dean mentions that John took him fishing and I have a hard time believing that. Especially when we compare it to Bobby's flashback when he was dying, with kid Dean who says his dad wanted him to train with guns but Bobby took him out to play catch. So yeah the writer did too good a job making John a terrible parent

14:38 That kid sounds very similar to cole from season 4, where Tess almost got killed. Could be him, since it had been 4 real life years for the actor and kids' physical appereance changes rapidly as they age.

I think part of why Dean was doing well in school is because he didn't have to waste his time on his "bad boy" persona. Part of why Dean acts like this bad boy is so he doesn't form attachments and so kids know not to mess with Sam. But on his own he actually does weel in school, make friends and even joins the wrestling team!

The actor that plays young Dean was in Degrassi and his arc was so sad that anytime i see the actir in anything i just feel bad.

Only Sam exists for Dean, and vice versa. That's the show and the reason we love it. It's also the reason it later fifteen seasons. :)

cool to see a little more insight to the boys childhood, and Deans love/commitment to Sam even at an early age. But like you I just did not mesh with this actor as young Dean and I found the episode just meh overall.
