It just goes to show you that no matter how tough you are on the outside.....no one, and I mean NO one can resist a sappy Air Supply song! I laughed out loud at this scene. Both actors played this out perfectly! (and Sam is supposed to be the sensitive one!)
Am I the only one who thinks that "what would you say if I called on you now" sounds like it's about Cas? And then Sam says "Sorry, man" because he thinks it reminded Dean of Cas. Hmm? No? Just me? Fine, Destiel ftw anyway.
My thought was that the whole song was about missing his car? "All outta love & so lost without you"... since that was what the discussion was about for this scene.
I remember myself singing like that for so long in my bedroom, then I wasn't expecting my uncle standing outside in our backyard looking at me by the window. HAHA. Ahh _GOOD_ old times..... XD
I love this scene. Typical sibling moment. What's funny is that I could totally see Dean doing this. You know the songs that you like and they are totally embarrassing if someone found out you like them, but you just have to sing them when it comes on? Happens all the time with my sisters and I. Sam's expression and Dean's busted look is just icing on the cake :D

This! Just...this! Words cannot express the awesomeness of this clip! I missed the next few minutes of the show because I was laughing so much - just...Sam's expression! Dean's face! :D Also, I love how the non-shippers say that this a bit of random comic relief, while the Destiel fans are convinced that this is really all about Cas. There's something for everyone! Times like these, I love the SPN fandom :-)
I think he was genuinely mournful, not just goofily enjoying the song. If it were that simple, Dean would have been singing (really loudly), because he's usually unashamed about it, not trying to lip-sync in secret. Also, if Sam suspected that the car was all it was, he would have teased him about it like he always does, and he certainly wouldn't have apologized. I don't think it was just about the Impala, and I think Sam is uncomfortable, because he's not used to Dean being so open about grief.

The first time I saw this scene I only saw it in the context of the impala, and it confused me. Why would he look so heartbroken the moment that song came on, when he was just kind of annoyed about driving a different car? Why was he kind of shy about singing along, and why was Sam treating it so seriously and looking so worried? Then I put on my Destiel glasses and EVERYTHING MADE SENSE.
I think it plays to both Baby and Cass, whether you think it's romantic or mourning your best friend it still hurts Dean a lot and then he loses Baby. I just love the look on Sam's face like "oh god he's gone off the deep end"

gosh do they EVER look at the road? Man this scene is hella hilarious, but every time i watch a spn driving scene, i keep thinking about how much they don't look at the road, like omg.
Seriously people. You think that when a song with lyrics like "I'm all out of love" starts playing, Sam would immediately associate it with the Impala and try to turn it off? "Of course, Dean will probably turn into a mess if he is reminded of his car by this _iconic love song_?" Really, a car, not someone he's lost? ...Cas, anyone? And this is coming from someone who doesn't even ship it.
I just realised, this scene is actually a reference to the famous film Mr & Mrs Smith. There's a similar singing scene in the movie and Sam and Dean just got their fake IDs named Mr & Mr Smith. Mr & Mrs Smith are serial killers(assasins) in the movie and here in this episode, leviathan Sam and Dean are on a murder spree aka serial killers. Wow.
Seriously, it's so obviously about Cas, not matter how you see their relationship. We've all had those moments when we've lost someone and we hear a song that just sums everything up completely. It's so out of character for Dean to lip sync rather than scream-sing, and he looks so fucking sad it's just ugh. Nothing in Supernatural is an "accident" guys, the writers planned it like this.
It could be the Impala, he's talking about it right before Sam turns on the music, but then his mood changes so rapidly. First, he's annoyed, even angry, but still able to joke & quote a movie. Then the music comes on, & Dean's mood completely changes. Instead of annoyed, he looks honestly sad. And the way he lip-syncs... Dean doesn't do that. He "sings too loud", we know that. To The DESTIEL fans: It reminds when sam and dean first find out about the Supernatural Books. They find out about the Sam/Dean "as in sam and dean together". DESTIEL. Quoting Dean "that is just sick!"
Hee! This is hilarious. My fangirl heart loves the idea that he was thinking of Castiel while singing this and honestly, that was my first thought but I'm sure the impala got a verse too ;)
Impean/Dempala, the truest ship of them all... Ok, seriously though, Dean's love for the Impala, along with his love of pie, are recurring gags on the show and it is not weird at all for him to behave this way (*cough* Dr. Sexy *cough* guilty pleasure?). Well, it is...unexpected for a character portrayed as a tough guy to have such sentimentalities and that's why it's funny as hell. Only fantasy could see this in Destiel context. Perhaps the producers are also messing with your heads :P
