I've been searching for the ideal digital minimalist device for work. And I think that I have found it. Well done to Ratta Supernote the A6 X2 is a simply wonderful piece of design. Digital Nomads will love this one.

Silly question Kit but as a fellow Brit, what store do we buy this on, the US or EU store. It’s a remarkably tempting little e-Note but no big stores carry it in the UK, same with Amazon

When you mentioned making a table of contents page a while back, that changed everything on all of my e-ink devices, that was a fab idea! I really am loving the A6X2. I'd sent my original A6X to a friend a while back after I'd gotten the NA3c, and really missed it. So I went ahead and got the Nomad, and I'm happy again. I will not make the mistake of getting rid of this one! (although my friend is loving the A6X, so I've created another convert :) )

Kit, I couldn't agree more about this little device. As you know, I was skeptical about the format but reached for it all week at work for note-taking. The size is only a limiter when I am trying to read and grade PDFs. For that reason, I don't see it replacing my A5X completely. The design choices Ratta is making have me really excited for the A5X2 and A4X2. That being said, if your primary use is reading books, writing, and sketching, I think the Nomad is exciting.

Love the camera analogy Kit! I still use my B&W film camera I learned to shoot film on as It makes me focus on selectivity, focus, framing and composition over just "spray and pray" as you said. Something that has sadly been semi-lost in the digital age. Loving the A6 X2 :)

I will always use the Tab X as my "primary" work device- I need to do a lot of typing- but I went out on a limb and purchased a Nomad after hearing all the rave reviews about it. Digital analog is definitely the best way to describe it. It's not as versatile as an Android system, but you can really tell that Ratta it from the ground up as a digital notebook, and it does that extremely well. I still take analog notes- I have a pocket notebook that I take everywhere- but the Nomad has replaced almost all the midsize ones. Great device. That's all there really is to it.

I am really liking the A6x2. It's been invaluable to me with capturing things I need to do at work. My workflow is honestly kind of simplistic compared to most videos I've seen, but it works for me. I agree with you that I think it's maybe a little too small, and its price tag will keep me from getting a larger device which is unfortunate.

Agreed. I am hopeful that with the increasing popularity of this type of device eventually the price point of the e-ink screen will come down and we can all enjoy excellent e-ink tablets at reasonable prices. :-)

My desire to use e-ink devices has increased every day, but I still can't allow myself to because of the absurd delay that these devices take. If they were responsive like phones, tablets or computers I would have bought one a long time ago. While the screen really pleases me, the slowness irritates me deeply, which is why I'm still waiting for them to create an e-ink device that's fast, some device that responds to commands instantly. Currently, e-ink devices are as slow as smartphones from 20 years ago 😢

Most of the time, it is the clicky standard Supernote pen. But for some of the drawing bits there are other pens, including the Boox pen2 pro.

I’m looking for a eink tablet mainly for taking notes and keeping organized. A6x2 is too small. Should I wait for a5x2 or the box air that you recommended as number 1. Thanks

I believe the A5X2 is coming out within the next month or two... so if you go for the Supernote platform, I'd wait. Additionally, if like myself you are looking to create organised text and see yourself jumping through notebooks fast, searching and building references, Supernote is King but if you need audio, apps or a robust web browser with all that entails, I think you need to be looking at the Boox line.

You made me wanting one so much, even if I already have 3 Boox devices at home. Especially that quick access to notes gesture, it’s a killer feature for that usage. Too bad it’s not available in Japan yet.

@@Eduardo-xl8hu frankly, great. It’s been a year for the oldest one, all products work great. The only problem is it’s too much, they can do so many things I have a hard time focusing. And I don’t like the notes management on it. I need a product like the supernote to help me focus on my notes. but I really like the Boox products for everything else.

I've been looking for a specific device and this may be it. Every review of this understandably focuses on the writing, but I've looked around and it seems to support word files. Can you create one (or even a text doc) on this device? By typing? If you add a word file (or make one if possible) can it be edited? In another video I saw it mentioned that it was possible to type, but it was a bit clunky. I'm ok if it is a little slow as I still hunt and peck, but has it improved with recent updates? I do my editing manually as I don't know any keyboard shortcuts. I just want to type with basic editing and the option to write (which this seems to be well at). Thanks.

Yeah, it would work well for your use. You can work with word files, but you don't have all the tools you might expect to have. For me, I see it as a place to start occasional written projects and then edit them on PC. Word is better on the Boox tablets because you can use the full word app and it auto saves up to the cloud. Typing is a lot smoother too.

Could you pls share a video how easy/difficult to export the notes and edit them on laptop ? thank you very much in advance.

How do you handle leaving your notes behind? How do you access your grocery list you jotted down on the supernote when shopping? How do you expand on a thought that occurs to you when on the computer and the device is downstairs?

@@MOSMASTERING I want to because of their replaceable battery and great responsiveness to the community. However, it’s running an unsupported version of android (as is Boox). I went with a Scribe. I email the OCR’ed PDF and at it to my note system.

@@liketheduck I ordered a Nomad yesterday. Quite excited about it.. I think it covers all my needs and Ratta is updating the firmware quite often with new features. Official sideloading apps has just been added. I'm sad that it won't arrive for weeks though as there is a backlog of orders and a shortage right now.

Great overview as usual - I picked up a Note Air 3 but am strongly considering returning it for a Supernote ... possibly an A5X2 when they're released. But on another note, re: "creating" your lessons with ChatGPT ... as a scientist who has done work in AI, I have to say that I'm bothered by your statements regarding your use of ChatGPT to "create" lessons. The "robot" isn't creating anything. It's drawing on other people's uncredited work to generate a response. AI has no concept as to whether the results it generates are even correct. At its core, it's using tables of statistical probabilities (built from scanning others' work) to generate a response - eg "word x is most likely followed by word y, which in turn is most likely followed by word z". Whether the concept or lesson it generates is actually true or not doesn't even come into play. AI models like ChatGPT don't produce good answers, so much as they produce answers that sound good. Something to think about ... if I were a student these days, I certainly wouldn't want to be fed AI-generated lessons.

Hehe, I am most definitely still a Boox guy. In fact I am fast thinking about the two of them in very different categories and use cases in my mind. The similarities kind of stop at the e-ink screens and wacom pens!

The software on the device is quite decent. But the pen and the new screen is absolute shit. I can't write a single word without having gaps in the stroke unless I press the pen into the screen really hard. The screen also feels weirdly sticky all the time. The feel on the Kindle Scribe is a million times better (but sadly, the software on the Scribe is a total disaster) And there is a bug in the software right now that makes it impossible to connect the device to a Mac via USB. Privacy is of utmost importance to me, so I am never going to sync my notes through some cloud, so at the moment there is no way to get my notes off the device.

Those Eink as note takers are all laggy . All boox all Remarkable all and all are only one single thing - Laggy in hand write , pixilated , Low resolution .. For handwriting IPad is king . And in IPad using Noteshelf 3 is the way to go . And in Noteshelf 3 the way to go is using the fountain pen ( it is more of a regular pen albeit the name fountain ) and under fountain pen you want sensitivity OFF ( but ON is also good) and 0.5 or 0.6 or 0.7 or 0.8 thickness options. That is the best way to go for writing and I have tried them all - E ink and IPad. E ink is too laggy and pixilated for hand writing. For tipping also IPad is exactly like typing on a computer using even the same office bundles . Using Bluetooth pen is much more responsive quick the using any non Bluetooth pen . Bluetooth is a must for the pen not to be laggy . Ipad uses Apple Pencil which is a Bluetooth pencil . Also in Apple Pencil you can use the same tip for 10 years . With E ink the nib is becoming mushroom like and needed to be replaced every 2 weeks or so , even 1 week , and the writing experience which is not the best from the start has a ad decline slop as the nib gets worn so quickly . Also those E ink nibs needing fairly quick exchange is a huge cons. IPad screen and ease and fluid work and color accuracy are vastly superior to any E ink. iPad is the only way to go from any aspect.

iPads are slippery little buggers. Even with a paper-like screen protector. I've got a 12.9" iPad Pro but will choose my e-ink tablet for actual note-taking anytime because it's much nicer to write on. My Galaxy S9+ is marginally better than the iPad due to the pen tip, but it's still not ideal.

Well... :-) I think I said that the NA3C is the best tablet. I stand by that. Although really it is very close between that and the Tab Ultra C Pro. (If I was just to buy one, personally I think I would still buy that.) But I think that there is something about the supernote, which means that it is certainly on the way to becoming my favourite. And can I not have two favourites?!
