I've always been a hydraulic man but I have to say this video swayed me into ordering a new super split heavy duty with the new 90 pound flywheel version with a 6.5 honda ,the boys in Mass say she will be built and ready on 10 /6/12 ,thanks' guys for a great video!!!

The problem I see is the bucket on your loader isn't big enough ! ;-) Great vid and a GREAT splitter, thanks for posting.

very good. I have an older super splitter and have been transformed from a hydraulic fan to a fan of these. These are fast, simple, powerful, and safe. The machine I use is also over 40 years old!

There will always be skeptics and critics out there, tell you the truth , I think they are all just jealous cuz we're kickin ass on this mostly red oak firewood and they just don't know how to handle it.

Hey, just being silly here, but use the loader to feed yourself the unsplit logs and have your helper do more with his time by merely tossing the logs in the pile that was right there, also, rather than get upset that someone gave you some of their input, sing the song, "I get by with a little help from my friends'.:)

Oh contrare; I have split hundreds of cords of maple, oak, elm, ash, cottonwood, willow, etc, etc you name it with one of these things. It binds up, just let it back and hit it again. There have maybe been 5 or 6 times ever that I had to knock a block back off the wedge. Between my dad and I, we burn about 20 cord a year and just him and I can run a winter's worth of hardwood through this splitter in a day. They're amazing

Go to Wikipedia, look up "kick ass", you'll see this log splitter! It's the stacking that has become the hard part of heating with wood! You have split enough wood in 10 minutes to heat our house for a month, incredible.

@pawcop great job i love that splitter i have had mine for 9 years. its worth its weight in gold no dobt. ive made payback on the 3650 i paid for mine in 2002 BEWARE there are alot of knock offs out there and arent as fast. there all copycats. THERES ONLY 1 " SUPERSPLITTER"
@pawcop

Yes it does split red oak real well. As far as an alternate or different wedge , other than what's on there now would just b inviting headaches. The machine is designed for speed not power. With a very sharp wedge it will go through most knots and fingers easy enough have the doctor sew um back on with no problem.
@jjbiz007
@jjbiz007 14 лет назад
You better be in good shape to try and keep up with it! You will spend more time cutting the wood and getting it ready to be split than you will splitting it. I have split Gum, Pine, Oak, Pecan, Walnut, Sycamore just to name a few. These splitters are great (Period)

push down on the handle and it returns. and for all you nah-sayers out there and sceptics, almost all of this wood is red oak and if you watch long enough you'll see that there are y's and knots. please watch the WHOLE video before commenting negatively

Tim, yes I still have the splitter and it'll take me about 20-30min to split a cord by myself if I have the wood stacked up by the machine and have my wood conveyor set up, which I now use instead of the bull dozer. You just can't beat this machine.

Very cool machines, a little too quick for me. I like to be able to back out if I needed to with a knot or something. I think its good to have a buddy help you. This way you're only focused on your job, not the table part too. And if you get your arm caught in the blender, good to have someone nearby... :-)

I have one of these Super Splits. It is fast and I like it. See my other coment on this video. I have since found a video of a better one. I can't believe someone has not done a wedge design like this before. I think it is going to change the way most splitters operate. Makes handling the wood a lot easier. I have one on order and hope to get it in a few weeks. Search "Tempest Wood Splitter". Let me know what you think. I am not associated with them other than I am purchasing one.

Hi pawcop, do you still have this wood splitter? If so, do you still love it? I am considering buying one because I can't stand how slow the hydraulic ones are, even though they are powerful, for me, it's all about EFFICIENCY. How long to split a cord of wood by yourself? Is it worth the price? Is there anything that you would change on the wood splitter to make it better / more efficient? Thank you for your reply.

Not so many haters on this vid as in others. I've yet to find a video anywhere that shows this machine not going through anything that's thrown at it. Crotches can even be done if you're smart enough. What motor is this? The 5.5hp honda right? Only an idiot would try to throw any log more than 100 lbs on a splitter, the rest of us would noodle it into smaller pieces or at least use a maul and wedge or vert hyd splitter. this is definitely on my list and would pay for itself in a week

Wow, this thing beats a slow-ass hydraulic splitter hands down. I do not understand why 'they' haven't figured out how to make a hydraulic splitter move faster... I've heard it said that if the splitter goes too fast, wood will fly all over the place and chunk people in the head. But this thing is the very picture of speed and tranquility.
@taylor_imaging
@taylor_imaging 9 лет назад
+3Sphere If you could get the pump to spin faster I see no reason it wouldn't split faster! Look at cars with Hydraulics. the more power you add to the pump the faster it turns which lifts the car faster.
@3Sphere
@3Sphere 9 лет назад
+The motorsports project That may be so but I wonder why nobody has done it? Instead there are about ten million molasses driven hydraulic splitters around. You have to get up into the $tens or $hundreds of thousands of bucks with a monster firewood processor to even match the speed and efficiency of the SuperSplit, yet they aren't in every garage. Very strange. I must be missing something... I'm done with 'em. When my place sells and I move further out on some acreage in the country, I'm gonna buy a top of the line SuperSplit. They're built like a tank and the best SuperSplit model is still way cheaper than even a mediocre hydraulic one... I wanna have as much fun as this guy in the video! :)

These are designed for one person operation. Obviously two people can accomplish more in the same time. There is minimal safety risk. I own one, I should know. The rack may be stopped immediately by pressing down on handle. Nobody is fool enough to bend over the i-beam in operation on any machine! These are fast because it is mechanical energy not wasteful hydraulics. The speed comes from how long it takes to drop a log in place and pull up the arm. If it doesn't split first contact, then you may hit it as many times as needed to split it. The recover time is the speed that the fly wheels recover from on the initial cycle and it is in seconds, so you can re-engage the rack by the time it is retracted from the first hit. There is a reduction gear on the rack so the speed of the rack is constant, it doesn't slam into the wood bullet fast but pushes it into wedge at a constant, safe speed. The operators in this video both exhibit some questionable safety by holding the log into the split. This I see is dangerous because you may get a finger or glove pinched. I do hold the log if it isn't already contacting the wedge but that is the only time. Ideally, the wood is against the wedge before you initialize the cycle and hence do not need to guide it to the wedge. Maintenance is minimal. Spray with lubricant on i-beam, grease nipples, change oil. It doesn't take 8 or 10hp to turn the fly wheels so a mere 5hp does it but with less recover time than say a larger hp. You are already saving 6 hours plus with this splitter so I don't think another 2-4hp. is necessary but you can order one with bigger hp and increased tonnage. Compare the hydraulics and other mechanical ones out there and I think you will find that these splitters are unmatched for safety, longevity, maintenance. I have already split this years firewood of 6 cord on one spring weekend totalling 8 hours, by myself!. The rest is for sale. I am not wasting any more weekends splitting by hand so I have more time to enjoy. Stop watching and wondering if these video's are tainted, they are not! SuperSplit is exactly how you see it on the advertisers site and You Tube. Enuff said, now go buy one and see for yourself.

This is the same as at least one other and possible more with the same action. It is ok if you can manage at the end of the day with one less finger! It can be lightening speed but the downfall is this is dangerous, and needs two people or one doing double the work pre-stacking, splitting and stacking. Moving fast like this is not conducive with efficiency when moving so fast there is a very real danger here as I have said.
