Out of this trilogy of games, this is the one I played first. My grandparents rented this for me and they had to renew the rental because I needed the extra time to beat it 😂 Great memories! And yes...Super Metroid when 😏
@@huginnandmuninn4865 Absolutely! I was raised by my grandparents, and we were really really poor, so it was always a very appreciated treat when they were able to do that. I love them
"Leia, in time, you will learn to use The Force as I have, like, flying in complete vacuum, cheat death and perform whatever stunt the plot needs. These are my words of wisdom. Hush, hush, don't you speak, for I must leave now"
'and also be able to defeat me with a lightsaber, me as a jedi who's battled darth vader and countless enemies, who's a physically stronger person with all the experience. me, who our father could feel was noteworthy while flying down a trench during a space battle, while not recognizing you at all while torturing you for hours. you will be the best of us....'
I played the hell out of Super Empire Strikes Back. Never played SRotJ. Finally played it in 2000 at my girlfriends house. By then video games took a huge leap forward. Beat this game in my first sitting no deaths.
Prowse wasn't even really the body. He spent less and less time doing it as the trilogy went on. A New Hope was basically the only time he was in the suit the majority of the time. By Jedi he was relegated to maybe a handful of scenes.
Luke: "Leia, I must face Vader." Leia: "But why must you confront him? He is evil." ...Leia, that's the reason. Why the fuck are we out here if not to confront evil?
Great video as usual, and I’m with you-YubYub is the official ending. Only one small note: it’s actually Sebastian Shaw-the actor who played Anakin in the OT-that we see as a Force ghost. Poor Prowse never got his face shown.
I was looking for this comment! I'm too much of an original trilogy nerd to not call that out. 😋 Though if anyone wants to see a young David Prowse's face, he's the buff bodyguard in the old man's home in last part of the 1971 film _A Clockwork Orange_
Fantastic job as always UCBVG! I do have a few things I'd like to add. First off, the "Sound Test" code is activated by holding A + X + Y + DOWN and pressing START (holding B is not required). If you hold B, this code will not work, and if you're in debug mode, it will end the stage you're on instead (as that is done by holding A and pressing START). Also, being able to flip the Star Wars logo/intro text crawl is another "effect" of the debug mode code. Also, not sure if you know this but each time you enter the Sound Test menu, you will get a different message (the first one will say "Turn up the volume!" followed by "Play me L O U D!"). There are a total of 16 messages, and they will always appear in the same order, however some of them are repeated and there are only 7 unique messages. I also discovered that most of the game's cheat codes can ONLY be done on the first time the title screen appears after powering on the system. So if you don't enter one of these codes correctly before the title screen fades out (which takes about 10 seconds), you MUST power off the system to try again (pressing RESET or hitting any button during the demo to return to the title screen will NOT work). However, if you press UP or DOWN at any time during the initial title screen, it will "reset" your code entry (if you messed up entering any of your button presses), and this will also reset the 10 second timer as well. Additionally, the debug menu can only be brought up on side-scrolling stages, and the stage skip trick does not work on either of the game's final two flying stages. Lastly, I believe you may have incorrectly entered the the Invincibility code in your video (although your instructions were correct), because whenever you enter the code correctly, you will also see your character's coordinates appear below them (which is another effect of the Invincibility code).
thank you for your content, i remember playing this at friends house when i was younger. learned quickly how efficient the blaster characters were. fighting Vader and the emperor was no joke; def made you earn that win
Great videos, as always. Though 2 little errors regarding the ROTJ movie you mentioned. 1. 1:37:34 - It's the 'Yub Nub' song. 2. 1:37:46 - It was Sebastian Shaw who played the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker. David Prowse wore the suit. He originally did do the voice too. However it was not menacing at all, so they went with James Earl Jones.
Thank you for coming back strong with a good quality snes title, that most of us love. Weekend mornings are back on. But i love that i can watch when i finally get the chance too. You deserve the views, the like, and i already subscribed with both my accounts to support you. Have a good week.
I remember when The Phantom Menace came out a game popped up on the PS1 I think. That game was pretty hard actually and kind of reminded me of the Super Star Wars series on SNES.
Awesome stuff. I've been asking you if you were going to do this game for a little while now. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us all. Great stuff, thank you for showing us how to gain all the secret hidden items, lives and glitches to skip certain areas. Love your channel and videos they're a big help and much appreciated. Thank you again, have a great day and may the force be with you always.
I always analyze how happy your older pup looks on each new video. There were a few in a row when she didn't look so happy. Glad to see that big smile this time around! 😊
Man, I love the codes at the end of this episode UCBV! A job well done! Also, this was my most favorite super Star Wars game on the SNES. I remember buying this game a Toys R Us. I thought Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures was also good in one whole 16 bit cartridge. Super Castlevania was awesome too.
The trilogy concludes! These games are every bit as classic as the movies they were based on. They were exceptionally well-made for licensed games at the time, a technical marvel as well as easily some of the best-looking games of the era. Godspeed, U Can Beat Video Games, and may the Force be with you.
i remember beating it when i was a teenager when this came out, because i played so much. I'm found all my retro gaming systems and games, and i'm trying to do it again. alot of secrets i did not know. it was awesome to see you played this one.
I remember renting this from my local video store, i asked the guy if he had any passwords or tips to help out he said "Jump... constantly..." Best advice for this game.
Disney Adventures magazine published a page of cheat codes for this game back in the day, and it's the first place I ever saw the name Palpatine written out. But they had it written as if it was a location, "Emperor's Palpatine."
This whole SNES trilogy is hard AF. Probably Top5 hardest SNES games ever. I have never beaten any of them (and I HAVE beaten all 3 Ninja Gaidens and Castlevania 1 and 3 on NES).
That's not David Prowse as the Anakin force ghost, but Sebastian Shaw. Shaw also played Anakin/Vader when Luke unmasked him during his death scene in Return.
@@HylianFox3 the other 20% of the time*. He did essentially no scenes for Jedi and half the scenes at best of Empire. He burned his bridges years before.
I once had the entire Super Star Wars Trilogy on my SNES and I traded it for a copy of the SNES port of Chrono Trigger...I did not regret my trade. Honestly, the entire Star Wars anthology needs to have games that are done this way, and maybe things like The Clone Wars, Rebels, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian as well.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned but the Ree Yee Warriors are carrying chairs to throw haha always thought they had a strange mask or something as a kid. Loved this game, was able to actually beat back then, don’t remember if I ever beat Empire, probably not!
Remember this game. I get it as a Christmas present on 94 I think, and it was difficult as hell. But remember that I finished. I don't remember how long it takes. But it takes me months. Great game BTW
Slight correction there UCBVG: That's Sebastian Shaw as Darth Vader. Dave Prowse only played him "inside the suit" (and briefly, the voice, until they replaced him during production with James Earl Jones), Sebastian Shaw played the "face" of Anakin when his mask comes off (and Anakin during the final scene with Yoda and Obi-Wan).
You can make the Freeze Jump in "Attack on the Sail Barge" earlier, when you jump from the last Skiff to the Sail Barge and with timing you can go up easy too.
Surprised you didn't mention this but if you keep Palpatine on the top section or don't pursue him below the portions of that bottom floor won't take damage. So if you tag him enough on top then you can easily take him out below.
33:55 That's real reason why Han or Chewie is recommended for this level because they got blasters and Luke doesn't, there is in no skull 💀 down there in the rancor pit level or no switch for Luke to throw the skull 💀 at in order to drop the gate on the rancor monsters neck in order to kill him, there is no gate on this level either.
This is eerily apropos, as I just beat this game for the first time in...what, twenty years? I used the code that lets you select all characters for all levels, so naturally, I fought the Emperor with Wicket. Heeheehee. When I moved from my home state, I decided to record every single game that I had beaten (that I'd never beaten before), and just yesterday, I reached number ONE THOUSAND. The game in question? Knights of the Old Republic.
I think the 8 and 16 bit graphics are still amazing today in 2023, but thats coming from someone who occasionally plays newer consoles when invited. I’m still playing 8 and 16 bit consoles today at the age of 43. Just never thought I needed to upgrade or down grade depending on your perspective. 🤷♂️😬🙄😊😂👊
our rental place only had 'Super Star Wars' and 'Super Empire Strikes Back' so I never knew about the third game. As a kid I just always thought this one was never made. These games I always use game genie on just to see the whole game. I've never tried to pass the games without it. I think the most useful codes are infinite lives and don't loose health bar or weapon levels. I think those were the codes, I can't remember.
You remember your thing about pressing *A* with your second finger & *B* with your first finger in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game? *(The Arcade Game = TAG abbreviated!)* Well, I'd suggest holding *B* with your second finger during this first Mode 7 stage, & pressing *Y* with your index finger to jump.
Do you think you will do SNES games in the future? Final Fantasy 2 was my first RPG and if you ever get to it that would be such a direct nostalgic trip.
Man, interesting secrets you for this one!! Thanks for the hints regarding the final Death Star escape. 1:12:28 - There's a section similar to this in Stage 5 of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers on SNES. (Something to keep in mind if you do an episode for that)
Now here a game that is the SNES platform bullet hell, yes this needs a guide. Got a challenge for you, get DOSBox and try another Star Wars game of the same era..... Dark Forces
Absolutely stunning video. Just a small note, I'm sure some other nerd apart from me has pointed it out, but the actor you see in the end of Jedi playing Anakin/Redeemed Vader is Sebastian Shaw, not Prowse. Pity, would have been kind of them to let Prowse appear sans armor. The "new" ending Anakin sucks.
Great video but one correction. The Anakin at the end is not David Prowse, its Sebastian Shaw. David was the Physical version of Darth when all suited up, Sebastian was the unmasked Darth and also the Anakin we see at the end and James Earl Jones was the voice of Darth. You'll have the Star Wars Police after you if not careful! 😆
Best advice for any of the SNES star wars games is spam enemies at the start until you get max health from saber drops (I know they call them swords but they are clearly lightsabers)
Though the person that made this video did not mention this fact, in Super The Empire Strikes Back, as well as Super The Return of the Jedi, the Mario/Wario/Sonic rule applies here in regards to the Rebellion icons, namely, if you collect 100 of them, then you will get an Extra Life.
Man I have to admit I haven't seen your videos in a while but when I saw you posted this I had to check it out! I love that you have the stage map on the left. Very Nintendo Power-esque. Is that where you got the map from or did you make it yourself?
As I understand it, what the game wants you to do against Palpatine is for you to turn on your Force deflect power and then bounce his Sith lightning back at him
