SUPERSTITIOUS STORY OF THE HOOCHIE COOCHIE FLOWER : SUBIC BAY FREEPORT PHILIPPINES
Just a little stroll around Subic Bay Freeport Zone before we head back to Angeles City. Also Lot Lot shares a superstitious story about the kalachuchi flower or as I called it Hoochie Coochie flower.

The waterfront building on the Lincoln and Waterfront road intersection was COMUSNAVPHIL. I was a CTO assigned at this command in 1988-1992. It was my first duty station which I have great memories serving in the USN.

@@jimscholz2997, what a small world it is. I remember the RM data center on the 2nd floor. Being stationed there the same time, I may have even picked up the data messages from you. That old gate is the one we used to call "the Spanish Gate". Neat to see that again! I think that "Liberty Route" sign was directing people to the nearest way out of the base to go out on liberty (time-off in Navy terminology).

Yes the memories I have of Subic bay Naval Station, I hope that someone preserves the history like painting that crumbling white seawall ! it's too bad they couldn't save the boat docks that we used to tie up at, it's just a skeleton now, officers landing,,,gone. Thanks for the video you two.

Military Sealift Command ships still dock there. Sometimes you can see Americans at Pier One in civilian clothes. The reason that port was so important (and still is if you think about it) is that an aircraft carrier can pull right in without worrying about running aground. A deep sea water port.

I just saw a spot that brought back a funny memory. I was in the Navy, and while were in port one of the things we did was patrol the harbor in the captain's gig. I was a boat engineer one night. The Boatswain's Mate let me take the helm. I was hauling ass, and little did I know there was a partially sunk telephone pole in the middle of the harbor. I literally got air in the captain's gig! Tha Boatswain's Mate freaked. Leave it to say every time after that when he was on duty, I didn't get to tale the helm...

I have friends who served and were there at SUBIC. The huge building on the water was all U.S. NAVY. I can not remember the title, but there was a Movie filmed there in the 90's. The film shows the base still as a U.S. Naval Base. Wish I could remember the name of the movie. It was about U.S. Navy sailors and a scandal where an American killed a Filipino Thug. The movie was well done. Most of the Naval Base at that time was still intact. The " Subic Bay " letters were there back then. Nice Vlog, Brian and Lot. I really enjoy these. :)

I really enjoyed yesterdays and todays videos. When looking at the Spanish gate you said it wasn't very exciting, but when you looked inside the rooms I could see that it had multiple floor levels. Spanish guards must of manned posts there allowing entrance to only those authorized to their naval base. My mind was racing thinking of the history that must be there.

When I was stationed there, that tower was manned by US Navy Signalmen who communicated by flashing light, semaphore and some voice circuits with ships entering and leaving port. I worked in the communications center on the 2nd floor of that building. Brian was correct about the two unused flag poles. When the USN was there, one pole had the US flag and one the RP flag. US and Philippine Marines you to raise and lower them daily.
