Finding the volume and surface area of a rectangular pyramid. Using Pythagoras' theorem to find the perpendicular heights of the triangular faces given the pyramids slant height.
Hi Ais, yes h1 is the perpendicular height of the rectangular pyramid, which we use to find the pyramids volume. The problem is that to find the area of the tilted triangular faces we need their heights h2 and h3, which are not the same ( if it was a square pyramid they would be the same ), to find the surface area, it sometimes helps to build a model, those old bendable pipe cleaners are good for modelling.
