Needed a second phone while my Z Fold 4 was in the shop. Iforgot how much love this phone even with its little quircks and issues...What I want to know is, does the Pixel Fold take the Duo idea and improve on it?
I have the SD and the SD2.. like you, loved it in the hand at the store and can’t replace that feeling. Problem is putting it in my pocket or worrying about dropping it.. all the time. Went to Pixel Fold, missed the pen input and could not replicate the love I have for SD and SD2.. took the Fold back. SD is best as a companion device. I use Small iPhone and Galaxy Z5 as daily users, but can’t wait to use my SD each evening when sitting on the couch.
Yeah it is pretty darn hard to beat...I love this thing, I just got notified from Samsung that my z fold four was shipped back and now I almost don't want it back 🤪
I had the Fold 4 for about three months. I found a brand new open box unlocked duo for $214. I thought it would be something just to fool around with. But... after using it for about a month, I gave my Fold 4 to my son and have kept the duo. I love it so much I recently bought the same exact deal for $214 and I'm keeping it for a backup. My favorite device of all time.
It really is an amazing phone...I am currently using the Pixel Fold and it is a beaut indeed but it still does not beat the coolness factor and general hardware prowess of the Duo...not sure any phone ever will👍
I only own the SD1 and I still use it mostly as a PDA for Kindle, OneNote, and browsing two windows in Chrome. I will probably use it for my camera too as you can have a remote shutter in one screen and a HDMI live capture one the other! Only problem is the drop of the support by MS which is shameful for such a rich company which pretends to be "pro". Sometimes I hesitate to buy a second one just to test Android 14 or Windows 11 on it. As a "daily driver" I use a one screen Oppo, which is faster to use. Totally agree with everything you said!
I still find it so hard not to love the SD1, in fact was looking at it again last night comparing it to the Pixel Fold...it was so close to perfect really and yes, hate that MS gave up on it so early...
Still an amazing device. The only drawback is the fragile edges around the USB-C and then the 4G LTE only. But the build and the overall experience is amazing. I've seen som GCAM's work well on it but I haven't found a successful install yet. I wish they'd re-do this very device, maybe a tad smaller, 90 hz, still basic cameras that can keep this format, I mean.... It's so goood.... It can easily be made a cheap device for present day use.
Couldn't agree more, every time I switch between devices and go back to my SD1 I am reminded how incredible this device is and how freaking amazing it has the potential to be with small minor changes as you stated. I do have to say though, the OnePlus Open has easily made me forget about the SD1...the OnePlus Open is by far the best phone I have ever used...either candy bar or foldable!
For two years the Duo was my daily driver although I carried z fold 3 and LG v60 dual screen in the same time with Duo! Lately Z fold 4 is my daily driver (I will replace it with Pixel fold to avoid narrow outer screen) but still work all my daily multi tasking jobs by the Duo!! I think multi tasking is solved by dual screen device not a fold one at all. In addition I think Duo has a SOUL!!! I love it and can't stay away from it ❤
I cannot agree more...I still find myself having difficulty putting down the Duo when I use it even with its shortcomings but I still think it may be the best design of any phone I have ever used for what it did so well. My OnePlus Open is definitely my new love now though....
I love using the digital pen on the MSD2. In this regard, the GPF is a no go. I do prefer the form factor of the GPF to any other foldable. But so far, nothing can fully replace the MSD2.
Ok you guys, let's start a Kickstarter 🤪 to build and Duo 3 with fast wireless, pen support, NFC and one continuous screen with split ability via software and keep it the same size as the Duos
@@OlyGoalie67 To my understanding, what you just described was the SD3. The project was put on ice last November; and with Panos Panay leaving Microsoft now, the chances of SD3 is zero.
@@OlyGoalie67 I'm personally hoping for the OnePlus Open to be the white knight for Duo fans. The form factor is suppose to be similar to the GPF, and the Oppo (OnePlus's parent company) Find N2 had stylus support. So, fingers crossed for the OnePlus Open to have stylus support. Personally, I would be more interested in the OnePlus Open and the Honor Magic V2 than the Google Pixel Fold for future reviews and comparisons.
@@bricequirlI also appreciate that feedback...I am very anxiously awaiting the Open...I, like you have a good feeling about it although my only concern would be that it it is as small as the Find N2 then that could be a strike against it but not a deal breaker. An One Plus Open the size of a Duo would be game changing but I know I can only dream 😃
Surface Duo 1 is a great device. I am really angry that Microsoft betrayed us. Such a let down and lack of vision. I have one and it serves me well in 2023.
Besides a few small shortcomings like the camera (I use my phone camera almost every day) the SD is still an absolutely fantastic phone. Every new phone I have tried I find myself comparing it to my SD1 and usually I still find things I like better on my SD1. My newest phone, the OnePlus Open is the first phone that has won over the SD1 in every category...truly the best phone I have ever used but I will still never get rid of my Surface Duo...ever.
i sold mine my for a pixel fold cause it was the closes thing to that , just microsoft killed with no support...is so sad that was my favorite phone ever
I would try Microsoft but I think they only charge a flat rate and replace the whole phone...not sure anyone is fixing the Duo...sorry I have nothing further for you.
Android 13 will destroy the idea of 2 flexible screens, the whole idea behind Surface Duo!! The two screens will be like one big middle cracked screen 😮
I am torn between what makes the Duo so special with its two screens versus the idea of a solid undivided screen of the OnePlus Open...after having the Open now for close to a month....it's pretty amazing.
I still have my Duo 2 and I still pick it up at least a few times a week. I recently bought the Pixel Fold. I love the Fold in its own right. However, the size of the Duo 2, form factor and multitasking is hard to beat. The only reason I ended up buying the Pixel Fold is because is due to battery life and the top hindge broke and now it doesnt open straight. When i dropped and cracked my screen, I had to upgrade I wouldnt say the Pixel multi-tasks as good as the Duo. You still can't do app oairs, without extra steps and apps dont independently open apps on eiher half of the screen. So, its not as easy. That's why I believe MS had issues with its software. No other foldable manufacturers are providing the option o multi-task like the Duo. The Pixel Fold is close, but Gootle has a bit of work to do.
The Duo, for what it is, is still the best phone on the market and I have said it before and will say it again, if we could get an updated Duo I would be buying that in a second. That being said, I am now onto the One Plus Open and have to say I am VERY impressed...thanks for the feedback and watching my video👍
