Change the Battery! I have the same problem. I called technical support , an hour later they try to get me to pay $50 for a new pen. I said bull crap, and asked to speak to the management. I figured, if its a problem so many people are having, its on their end, and should be fixed for free. The management get online, and told him all the steps the other guy and I have tried. Hey said there are two different batters. The button works because it has a separate pair of batteries. I will post a link on here, of how to get to all the batteries. but you only need to change the AAAA Battery. Wish I found this out while it was still under warranty. I love my surface but am very disappointed in this serious flaw that should have been recalled and addressed by Microsoft.
I'm having this exact same problem also! According to MS Tech Support the stylus has two batteries - a small coin battery at the top which powers the bluetooth and top button, and a AAAA battery in the middle, which powers the stylus tip and side buttons. They suggested that since I can pair the stylus and the top button is recognized (when you press it, OneNote launches), that probably I just need to replace the AAAA battery. I'm going to get a new AAAA battery tonight and will post here if that fixes the problem. That would be annoying if they misdiagnosed your problem both times.
The batteries in the top are only for the top button and Bluetooth functionality. If you turn off Bluetooth, the pen will still work, but the top button will not. In this video, I've already replaced the battery. One thing you can try is to push through any updates that may improve the functionality. You do this by: Swipe from the right, go to search. type in "wuapp." Go to "check updates" in the top left corner. Update anything you haven't already. Rinse and repeat until it no longer asks for updates. That may help your problem as well. The above solution forces your computer to update, instead of waiting for the right conditions, and installing things one by one.
I have same pen do not work because batteries is low get weak not strong sensor so you should get new batteries back normal. you don't need call support but knew don't say when pop up battery level status suck what people is not understand.
