Surface Pro 9 Review: Testing Microsoft's Newest Tablet 

How is this the review when there's no battery test? You folks really couldn't wait another day or two just to perform some testing?

I am on my 2nd Surface. Just wait a bit, November, December, or 2023 and there will be bundles that either reduce the cost of the Surface itself, or the accessories (Kybd and Pen). Don't buy everything at full retail. I've bought from MS Store and Best Buy and have gotten deals each purchase. For a home PC I love that it can be a tablet, laptop, or docked depending on what I am doing.

we are finally deciding to upgrade our Surface Pro 3. We have been using the Pro 3 in our dog grooming shop for notes and calendar things and it works great with the touch screen and flip out keyboard for massive note taking. Also traditional laptops we had tried inbetween upgrading the Pro 3 and now have just filled up with dog hair :X

Very good information. Suggestion, eliminate the background music. It is beyond me why RU-vid content creators think it necessary playing music over their voice. The music quickly becomes extremely annoying. Keep in mind, we came to hear you, we do not want to fight intrusive music.

Hi there Dan, mad respect from India, here the i5 and the i7 models are separated by a whopping premium of $500, although I am not a very power hungry user, or a content creator, just a researcher....still when I do research, I can have in excess of 20 tabs open and a few excel, word and Pdfs open... I have an Xbox and hence gaming is not a need at all with this device....I still rock a MacBook Pro i5 8th Gen with Touch Bar, which seems to be failing on me anytime soon, it has gotten sluggish especially after the latest Ventura Update, I am done with Macs and I always wanted a surface for the longest time I remember.....although getting an M1 or an M2 makes a lot of sense, I am asking you honestly, If I were to switch to a Surface, would this be a good year to do so...? I am eyeing the i5 12th intel model with the keyboard and pen that costs roughly $1800....Please Advise!

Can we use full pc MS office apps with the arm version? I'm an advanced user of Excel. Ipads and Android tablets do not offer the full pc versions.

Was looking at the iPad Pro 12.9 inch...considering the Surface Pro 9 now. Just want for taking notes, MS Teams and general Windows stuff. Not a huge Apple fan. Not a "creator". Any advice?

I had the x with snapdragon and it had no software compatibility like intel chipset computers doubt this is different.

You can get great deals on the Pro 9 now. I bought a Certified Refurbished model from Microsoft and got an even better deal. Plus I got the educational discount on the keyboard/pen combo.

I like the Microsoft Pro, but how they can justify $448 to replace a $10 battery by a premium week turn around service then get "lost" (stolen) for two months and then give a three month extended warranty as compensation. The hardest part to swallow is I rarely used it unplugged.

i just cant justify what you get for the price; i ended up getting the samsung galaxy ultra tablet on sale in december with 250GB storage for $800 and that included the S pen. then i bought a leather case with magnetic backlit keyboard off amazon for $40 and its miles ahead in features compared to microsoft's or apple's "magic" keyboard where the only thing magical is the price and people still buy it. i even use my phones hotspot and there you go, 5G anywhere without the price.

Surface Pro 7 still going strong.

Given the limited capability of 5g wireless networks in my area, I opted for the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 LTE. I get similar wireless internet speeds, an I5 Intel processor, and Windows 11. All for $499 including the keyboard. The deals are our there. Ideally true 5g would be great, but it's not available in many areas. Also, do you really need it? Outside of my Wifi network, 4gLTE is plenty.

Sadly the WOA SP9 is way too expensive. $1300 plus $300 for extras. That is an easy pass. Save $300 and get the safer Intel SP9.

But why doesn't the Surface Pro 9 have an earphone jack? No thanks. Not all people like wireless earphones. Even Macs have an earphone jack.

Setting up the wife's new Surface Pro 9, while working on my Surface Pro 6, which she also has. >> Noting the engineering "DE-provements" on the Surface Pro 9, just to be grumpy: - 6's cables (1 Displayport, one USB A, one Surface-specific custom) ALL came out of the RIGHT (same) side of the tablet. Easy to set up for network and external monitor. 9's Surface-custom is on the right, two USB-C on the left. Looks like an octopus on the desk, when not using the ~$300 docking block. - Oops, almost forgot. The 6 has a std 3.5mm headset/mic outlet on the upper left corner, that the stylus doesn't block. Hardly ever use it, most use bluetooth, but it's a nice standard. Again, disappeared from the 9. - Stylus: 6's was round like a pen, 9's is flat like a pen you ran over, feels weird in the hand. 6's attached magnetically to the left side, where there were no ports. So the stylus had a nice place to not get lost when the 6 was used as a tablet, sans keyboard. Not possible on the 9, since the stylus stows in a slot on the keyboard. I never use the stylus when I'm keyboarding, but it's very nice when in tablet-only mode. Wonder how many 9 stylii will be lost, and replaced at $100 a pop. - BTW, the 6's round stylus took a single AAAA (not a typo, 4 As) battery, unlike the Apple pen I got her for Christmas once, which she never used, and bricked because she never charged it again either. So much for Apple's great designers. Not sure about the battery in the 9's stylus, but it doesn't look replaceable. At least it stays charged by sitting in that hidden tray on the keyboard. - On the up-side, the buttons on the 9's flat stylus are easier to use. - RAM is weirdly upgradeable, by a new custom single chip MS is using. There's a rectangular door on the back, about one inch by two. You can pull out the RAM the Surface came with (128G for example) and upgrade it (to 512G, perhaps.) This being the first time I've seen it, I wonder if it's unique, and uniquely overpriced, for Microsoft. - BUT they took away a lovely STANDARD memory upgrade: Both our 6s have a tiny little MicroSDCard slot in the back instead. Into which, for each 6, I bought the fastest 512G card available, UH10blahblahblah or something...which each of the 6s now sees as a massive D: drive. And they're easily removeable. Can copy ALL of the C: drive onto one, then put it away as a full back up, or load another with a ton of videos for travel, etc. Last, see about the deals that come around at Costco. Surface Pro, tear-off keyboard cover and stylus, in a single package. Our 6s are i5 with 16G RAM and 128G SSD, and been great for us office pukes, upgraded to Win10Pro. Her new one, also from Costco, is an 12th gen i7, 16G with 500G SSD (because NO microSD slot for more disk), but only Win11Home. Love these boxes. The tablet mode is wonderful, and literally slides under my external keyboard when I have it docked for the dual-monitor set-up. I've been a Thinkpad red-dot junkie, all the way back to the 355 9.5" grey screen model, but I think these are the laptop models I've moved on to. Oh, look, all the upgrades have finished...Later.

The Surface pro series have a few known and serious issues. These has been discussed hundreds of thousands times on Microsoft forums but have a blind eye from Microsoft. Till date not even a single fix has been provided. If your type cover stopped working, there is nothing in the world that can fix it. I would recommend everyone to stay away from Surface series, its half cooked and non supported series just used as a milking cow by the M$ company. Substandard device range.

Expectations were high for the surface pro 9. No design change at all. Common it's 2022 look at those ugly bezels. And they hae not improved the battery life. The price is way to high for what it's offering. Keyboard and pen 2 are good. Microsoft really needs to consider the price when launching these devices with the same body as last year.

I’ll never buy a Microsoft tablet or laptop again after owning the SP7. So many faults.

The keyboard type cover is really bad build quality. It will stop working after 3 years. And there are no real alternatives. It costs around 140€ here. Biggest no for me to buy another surface pro.

I keep my Ipad Pro plug in most of the time. The battery life is really bad on the IPad pro.
