Nick I’m lucky enough to be in Maui next week. Not sure which island you are on. Is there similar land based fishing in Maui? Bringing a travel rod love to catch and release fish when fishing from shore. As far as hooks looks like u are using tiny hooks when reef fishing.
Im on Oahu. You can use this exact style on Maui and you should have some great sucess. I believe the hook size is a 7/0 circle. Maybe the size of your thumbnail to a little bigger. Good luck and I hope you have a great trip. 🤙
Hey uncle, just wondering what hook/line setup you would recommend for hoggies. Here on the big island where I live get choke big black hoggies. The hook I use is a AH hook, gold or silver. The hoggies bend the hook every time. It’s the best hook I found to hook the hoggie but they bend it and come off every time. The AH hook has a great shape in my opinion but is made of weak wire.
I would recommend the Maruto BKN size 12-14 hook. Super strong and a great bend on them to help stop from snagging the reef. 12lb test is perfect. Good luck 🤙
