Mr Skinner you are definitely the man, can't wait to order both your books A Season On The Edge and Striper Pursuit. I've been watching your videos all summer long and now into fall, I've definitely learned so many things, thanks again. 2 Thumbs Up!!!
Thank you. I watched your videos last winter (and purchased your book). I have been anxious to try stuff out. Hard to admit that I have been fishing for years but this gave me new technique. I fish primarily Cape Cod beach/sandbars. I had a fantastic weekend with multiple Keepers, all returned safely. Lost two when the open eye hooks broke off. All hooks changes now and I file off the barbs to make release easier. One more thing: holding the rod above the reel cuts wrist fatigue. Thanks again.
Nice video. I caught plent of fish in the canal last week using your tips. Ive fished for stripers all my life but i never really used wood lures as much but now i see why people love them so much
Very good! I go fish almost every weekend on Long Island Sound or West End Field at Jones Beach. I never find a great spot like you. Thanks for the tutorial videos.
Great video. I'm running a mitchell300 reel with a 6'6" MH diawa rod 30lb braid spider wire with a 20lb mono leader my knots are albright with sandiago jam knot also using a 80lb no open snap to connect my lures. I fish the Colorado river and lake mohave in AZ when is the best time to use the top water Popper? If you can privet message me please also do you think I have a fair set up to use for the top water Popper's or should I upgrade thanks and God bless.. straight lines my friend
The Tsunami type poppers are fantastic when fished right. It seemed like some of the fish hit the plug in anger, occasionally blasting the plug out of the water.
Hi John. Amazing videos as usual. I fish for Stripers on the surf here on the west coast in the Bay Area. Little different terrain than east coast, but also similar at the same time. I was curious how often you change your braided spider wire and changing braided line in general. Thanks again for all the great vids. Told my Dad to check them out too.
he made a video on tins. they're a pretty dated plug. use them when it's sunny and use your retrieve speed and pause after you cast to get the tin into the part of the water column where you think the fish are. they also cast a mile, so keep them around if you are having trouble getting into the win.
Correct, not made for cranking underwater. I rinsed it when I got home, fished it without issue for a couple weeks, then opened it up for a cleaning after that.
John been watching your videos all year. I have had great results using your techniques... may thanks. Where do go to order your books? Have a trip scheduled to Hawaii in December and need some reading materials for the flight. Pat
There's a link to the book's website in this video's description. You could just search on Striper Pursuit. Signed copies are available on the book's website and my amazon store.
Dear Sir, Excellent video. Never miss a one. Curious about 2 things. You seem to like 9 ft. rods. Any particular reason? Also, have you ever considered using single hooks instead of treble hooks? I hate dealing with treble hooks.
As it turns out, I like 7, 9, and 11-foot rods. I rarely use an 8 or 10. Yes the 9 is very versatile. I use single hooks on some things. Not the pencils at this point.
